Everton want Egan

The thing is with Egan is that he's just turned 27, and has already had an horrific injury that nearly ended his career. As much as he enjoys the craic, he knows that he's got 6 years left of a career, one in which he's not really done much. He basically has two contracts left. The the next is the last chance of a big one in terms of either wages or wages & signing on fee. With the numbers we're talking about, that could be a difference of £3m in his pocket when he retires. The kind of money that makes a big difference to how you & your family live.

I'm not surprised that teams like Everton are nibbling at him, just as they liked the look of Jags all those years ago, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gives it serious thought. As IIYB rightly says, it's now up to the top table at United to protect our assets and construct pay & conditions that stop the predators; a fair basic with very good bonuses.
I agree with that reasoning. When I tried to learn what players were on what wages, I found that the top earners were Sharp and McBurnie. That's open to interpretation of course, but I hope it means that the club is managing the rewards effectively in the way you suggest.
Easy for me to offer advice, I'm already retired and my heads above water. Not a decision I wold like to make at his age.

Liverpool has some shit holes, as does every major city. These major cities also have some very nice areas, it will never change.

I know, but if you're confident that theres plenty of players out there who could potentially replace Egan, surely you know some of them?
Time will tell if he does leave. I cannot name one single replacement but Egan is not the best of the best that's for sure 😀

I was slightly concerned until I realised the story had originated in the Sun. There‘s more chance of the catching a DTaxi than that rag getting a scoop out of Merseyside.

Everyone has a price in today's game, I just hope when the time comes and the offers roll in as they inevitably will for some of our players that we can show a bit more backbone than we always have before.

i am sorry but Liverpool is not a much better city than Sheffield, in fact apart from the harbour front it is a total dump with run down areas abounding!
Agreed. No need to apologise for stating the truth.

I don't know how you gauge how good or not a city is but if you go on international visitors, Sheffield doesn't make the top 20. I'll give you a subtle clue as to why... Cos it's shit.
I can understand people liking Sheffield because they've always lived there and they're used to it but it's still shit.
So as a planet, the humans prefer Liverpool and John Egan possibly would too depending on wages.

Losing a player like Egan on the field will be bad for us.

Losing a character like Egan off the field would be worse for us. He's one of the characters in our changing rooms and I feel the players would miss that.

How long does he have on his current contract? If it's coming up for less than 18 months then we should be acting quickly to give him a new deal.

I would imagine that Wilder will not sell him no matter what offer we get. Unless it's silly money or the player says he wants to leave and won't be signing a new deal.

I imagine we have a shortlist of players that could fill the 'Egan' dominating centre back role.

Signed on a 4 year contract doesn't expire till 2022. No pressure for us to sell whatsoever

The thing is Egan has brought into the Blades ethic , he loves it here , and he love the Manager , as long as we have Wilder were ok , Losing Egan would be a massive loss yes your right , but we would get a shit load of money , Losing Wilder would be the end ⚰

Agreed! Players can and will gradually be replaced.

CWAK are irreplaceable if we are to continue to excite and progress. I am not looking forward to the days when CWAK leaves us 😥

Until then just enjoy the ride :p

Can't see anyone leaving in Jan, maybe one in the summer (Egan or O'Connell). If they do I have no worries that CW will find someone who is good enough to replace them.

No but if yes 80 million⚔
Not for any money. He is a rare special commodity who's value goes way beyond money for me. He would be my Captain and will reach legendary status,if indeed he hasn't already imho. Is there a better, more consistent CB in the Prem? I love the calm reassurance he engenders in others and how easy he makes the game look. Absolute stalwart 😉

What the most famous “also ran” in football. Who have struggled to get to 5th in the league in well over a decade.......Egan can do much better than Everton if he stays with us a bit longer than the JTW

As much as I love our John, I can't help feeling that him and a few others in this team are 30-40% better in our system and under Wilder's management than they would be anywhere else. I think if he goes to somewhere like Everton too soon, he turns into another Michael Keane who for his £30M price tag is now the butt of most defensive jokes.

Don't do it John! You're a Blades legend in the making.

I’ve often wondered if we might ever see “loyalty” come back into fashion? For those of us of a certain vintage, it’s in living memory of times when footballers and managers spent the majority of their careers with one club.

The thing that inspired that was a sense of belonging to a club and feeling valued and appreciated. Also, I suspect, feeling that they could get everything they want and need from one club. Playing at the top level, getting the recognition they deserve. Being happy with pay and conditions. Being treated fairly.

Of course when big money came into the game it changed things considerably for some. Careers in football are short, so who can blame someone for making a move away if the money means long term security for them and their loved ones? I certainly don’t.

It’s not much different to loyalty in any other line of work for that matter. If most of us thought we could get better pay, conditions, prospects, elsewhere, we’d probably move.

But sometimes people stay loyal for reasons other than money. I studied this some years ago and was fascinated to learn that money isn’t the biggest motivation for most people. It’s the social aspects that count for more. The stuff I referred to earlier. Being happy and feeling valued at work. That counts for a lot.

Our players are now plying their trade at the highest level and the club is doing well. Many of them are getting a chance to represent their country. And we hear the team spirit and bonding in the squad is good.

I don’t doubt that heads can still be turned by financial incentives but maybe, just maybe, we are building the right platform for players and management to think...you know what? I’m happy with my lot and I can get all I need from this club without needing to go elsewhere.

We are going the right way about it anyhow.

The only reason it attracts so called international visitors is some duffers called The Beatles, not because it is better than Sheffield!

I think we will definitely see less foreigners in the prem in the next 5-10 years, thanks some part to the mighty blades.

Too many foreigners come to get the 'i played in the premier league' post card and collect a hefty weekly wage without giving a flying fuck for who they're playing for.

We've shown that a great team who want to play for the badge will always be superior to a team of greats.

This. Egan’s best attribute is his character. If he had a genuine turn of pace then he’d be in line for a top club. So I’m hoping that means he stays for the rest of his top flight career.

Moose could put himself on the radar of the top clubs, but he’s not there yet. And for some reason JOC goes unnoticed by England when I think he could play for anyone already.

Got to agree with you about The Beatles. Very over-rated. I preferred these guys.

Our success in the Premiership has been validated in the last week weeks, so the interest in players is going to be inevitable.

I can see Deano, JOC, Egan, Lunny and maybe even Mousset being tempted away in the next 6 months.

My advice would be to give us at least one more year to see if the club matches their own ambitions and maybe enhance their chances of going to an Everton, West Ham or Palace into going to Man Utd, Liverpool or Spurs etc.
Lundstram is out of contract in the summer anyway.

It's hands down a million miles a better place to.visit , speaking as a proud sheffielder there is no comparison
