Everton want Egan

Not saying he isn't easier to replace than JOC, just wondering who the many decent CBs are that would be an adequate replacement.
You need to look for obviously a good defender first and foremost, a good reader of the game, communicator, and who will put their head on everything that comes their way. Passing ability isn’t as important.

From my untrained football brain and without really thinking about it I’d be looking at Terrence Kongolo or Christopher Schindler from Huddersfield, Zimmerman at Norwich or Swansea’s Mike Van Der Hoorn.

I have no idea how much a player would be influenced by his role in the team, but it is possible (ie my opinion) that Egan has found the perfect place for him in the middle of our back 3 - his game suits that position, and our system benefits hugely from his work there. Do Everton normally play a back 4, with 2 centre-backs? I suspect he is less well-equipped for that position. It could be the kind of move that doesn't work out well for the player or the new club. So they'd have to take Wilder as well...

Could maybe entertain the idea of Zimmerman (though I'd still be sceptical if he's as good as Egan) but wouldn't touch the other 3 personally.

I think the communication, organisation and leadership is the most important factor, and the bond between him, Henderson, and the other defenders is obvious. I'm not sure it's something we could replicate easily.

I want Keeley Hawes, we can all dream.

We’d have to pay £30m+ for an adequate replacement.

What this thread did is to remind me that our wage bill has already begun to rise and if we wish to retain our very best players, of which Egan is undoubtedly part of that select group, we need to address this sooner than later. Whatever our better players are currently earning, we either attempt to retain one of the Prem's lower wage bills or we lay ourselves open to this division's predators hovering above us and cherry picking our finest.

The question of an increased wage bill is unavoidable I'm afraid, and it will certainly be a test of our will if we don't want to throw away the hard work of the last three years. Perhaps we could get Bash to have a little plastic surgery, improve his Irish accent, and pass him off as JE?

I can understand players like Egan creating interest at other clubs. The first question I would ask any player who is tempted is: Do you enjoy coming in to work every day?
I was looking at Sharp and Fleck having fun on that honesty game and thinking, they are enjoying this. It's another thing that is easy to take for granted, but I'm sure most of us can remember going to work with a smile on our faces, at least for one job.
Can't buy that with money. It's all about the people.

Everton are a special manager away from being a top 4 club. Liverpool a much better city too and probably more convenient keeping in touch with his Irish tendencies.
As it stands they just keep getting wank managers so I doubt big sensible John will be desperate to go there in a rush.
😂😂

The thing is with Egan is that he's just turned 27, and has already had an horrific injury that nearly ended his career. As much as he enjoys the craic, he knows that he's got 6 years left of a career, one in which he's not really done much. He basically has two contracts left. The the next is the last chance of a big one in terms of either wages or wages & signing on fee. With the numbers we're talking about, that could be a difference of £3m in his pocket when he retires. The kind of money that makes a big difference to how you & your family live.

I'm not surprised that teams like Everton are nibbling at him, just as they liked the look of Jags all those years ago, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gives it serious thought. As IIYB rightly says, it's now up to the top table at United to protect our assets and construct pay & conditions that stop the predators; a fair basic with very good bonuses.

I am not so sure, Henderson aside of course, because we can't control that.

Wilder doesn't have a record of flogging the family silver, so why would he now that we are in significantly less need of the money? Granted if a player says he wants off then that changes matters. But I am not convinced many players would want to walk out on this.

We'll see.
I think Wilder will have a value on his players and if its met he'll leave it up to the player. He inspires loyalty and I think that is part of it

As long as the money's right I'm sure Wilder will find a replacemen.. It's not done Leicester any harm selling Maguire for big money..
Leicester have been very clever in the last few years. They have sold quite a few good players for shed loads of money and then replaced them, usually with better players who cost much less. That's why they are doping so well.
My mate who is a Leicester supporter recons the guy they have got to replace Maguire is better than Harry! Another piece of shrewd business. If we can do that....

Our success in the Premiership has been validated in the last week weeks, so the interest in players is going to be inevitable.

I can see Deano, JOC, Egan, Lunny and maybe even Mousset being tempted away in the next 6 months.

My advice would be to give us at least one more year to see if the club matches their own ambitions and maybe enhance their chances of going to an Everton, West Ham or Palace into going to Man Utd, Liverpool or Spurs etc.
Not really bothered if they do leave ,any of them or all of them .with the kind of money we'd get ( not want or expect ) Wilder could build a champions league winning team

The secret of our success is not the players it'd the system and with more pace and power and dynamism in the side we can only improve

I don't think anyone will leave just yet anyway ,there are at least another 6 centre backs who are in front of ours on other teams wish lists , probably more

In the run up to January I’ll stick my neck on the line and say that one of our players will be linked with a ‘big’ club every week.

There are a lot of outside factors that might influence their decision (agents, money, family etc.). If Wilder keeps the results going we’ve got a decent chance of keeping all but the most ludicrous offers at bay.

Another couple of goals and Lunny will be on a few people's radar come next summer.

In fact all our team will be targets, as a lot of clubs will think we still sell our players at less than their realistic value.

Think Nicolaus_Copernicus post #60 is the only genuine solution if a player is determined to leave. Buy well in advance of said player's departure, pay good money, but you avoid that scent of desperation that will almost certainly see you pay far, far more than would be avoidable. At current valuations I'd wager that Egan would reliably enter into the £50-60 million bracket, and before anyone attempts to suggest a lower amount, the Spurs player, Dier, wasn't that long ago valued at a similarly astronomical figure. Dier's form since has levelled out to something more realistic, whereas Egan has paid his dies, learnt the hard way, and has been Mr Reliable, before he signed for the Blades and since he was recruited. A player who understands his defensive duties is less common these days, but JE is definitely one of this groups leaders.....fuck it, £60 million?!? Add another £10 mil just because he's that good.

Disagree......it might be unpopular but I really believe that if any of our players were at other clubs they’d be underwhelming and average.
It’s the system playing to their exact strength over and over again thats making them play so well.

I remember Gary Birtles at Forest being a superb striker then he goes to Man Utd for big money
and instantly looks limited. Think the same will happen with many of our players.

Also I’m very confident that they’ll be hardly any big bids for our players during their first season in the top flight
Think any interest will be for relatively modest amounts 10 to 15 million but these figures aren’t tempting enough as it would cost more to replace them.
I really do think that Egan would fit into most teams' formations as a no nonsense CB as he is with us.

i am sorry but Liverpool is not a much better city than Sheffield, in fact apart from the harbour front it is a total dump with run down areas abounding!
