McBurnie Drink Driving bust

It does seem odd to me that some form of domestic breathyliser isn't available. Surely, if we want drink driving to be reduced then helping people self-regulate makes sense.

Would I drunk drive? Absolutely not, but would I unintentionally drive fractionally over, very possibly.

Seems akin to penalising drivers for speeding but not fitting cars with speedometers.

Like other young men of his age, McBurnie's cognitive development will continue until he's 25 and his emotional maturity, self-image and judgement will be affected until the prefrontal cortex of his brain has fully developed. He's still thinking, and probably acting like a teenager.

I don't necessarily think it's that. That implies some level of jealousy and I find it difficult to believe there are that many people going round with a chip on their shoulder because all these footballers they watch make shitloads more money than they do (personally speaking, I could never be jealous of some of the fucking horrendous gear McBurnie chooses to purchase...Gucci sliders, anyone?)

I do however think that, either consciously or subconsciously, people assign an amount of leeway in their minds as to what certain players should or shouldn't 'get away with' depending on how well they've been playing for their club. The difference between 'silly boy...he'll learn' and 'fuckin gerrim out of my club' for some is a few goals and some decent performances.

I didn’t necessarily mean jealously, more that they don’t like that sort of stuff. Similar to how Souness hates Paul Pogba because of his Instagram presence.

Agree with the second part. If it’d have been Jack O’Connell for example, we’d be defending him to the hilt.

I'd like to know why there's always tons of traffic after a match. It can't be our fans because the pubs are all rammed before the game - Surely they're only in the pub because they're travelling home on public transport 🥴

between 1979 and 2014

An average of 666 people were killed in drink driving related accidents in Great Britain each year.

An average of 3,551 people were seriously injured in drink driving related accidents in Great Britain each year.
Approximately 85,000 people are convicted of drink driving related offences each and every year in England and Wales alone.

85000 convictions a year, and thats not adding scotland

drink that in

I know someone close to McBurnie, who politely described him as a bit of a daft lad, who’d ended up at Swansea, partly due to poor off field influences. When we signed him, the same person said his only concern was that being based within travelling distance of Garforth, he would once again be able to associate with those same ‘bad influences’

I’m not in the least bit surprised this has happened, I’m just amazed that he passed Wilders character assessment, a ten minute browse through his Instagram would tell you football isn’t his first number one priority

I reckon, he’ll be gone before next season........invited to the Saudi embassy for a ‘meeting’ 😉

I thought the same as you. Wilder makes a big thing out of appointing players with the right mentality for this club. I’m sorry to say he’s got this one very wrong. Whether it was Wilder or someone who advised him I don’t know. But frankly, the bloke is coming across as a dickhead. And that’s before this latest drink-drive thing.

Is it Devvo with a beard?

So, I see this as being pretty much the hot topic of the day today so let's get some perspective and some facts.
Could probably belong in general chat but I feel it's relative to United with today's news.

Everyone's whiter than white when it comes to drink driving it seems, right?
You've never got in a car after a session and drove home (cunts trick admittedly) so you've never been over the limit, right? Wrong.
Look at this chart and tell me if you follow that the morning, or in some cases the afternoon after you've had a drink?

View attachment 62926

If you've had a few in the house on a random Tuesday night and drove the morning after to work, you've probably been over the limit.
If you've had a skinful with the lads after the footy on a saturday then took the kids to Sunday league the day after, you've probably been over the limit.
If you've been out on Christmas Eve and drove to your parents Christmas Day morning you've probably been over the limit.
You catch my drift...

I'm not sticking up for McBurnie here, I've made my feelings clear on that thread already. Just reigning a few of you in.

After that, can you honestly say you've never driven a car over the drink driving limit? As much as I'd like to, I can't.
I don’t often agree with things that you write (team list etc) but you’re spot on here. I would’ve written the same but couldn’t be bothered with the abuse of people thinking that I was sticking up for him.
The holier than thou attitude on was a joke, when very little information was available. Let’s get the facts and then either hang him out dry (not literally) or slap him over the wrist

Driving whilst over the limit is a cunts trick. Be it just over, morning after, Dean Saunders or full on Derby County! And before I am accused of being being holier than thou, I admit I probably am being so. But then again, when younger than OMcB station in Cyprus, I was thrown out the back window of a car and was stopped going through a shop window by a tree! And for the last 30 years have a scar that does a good impersonation of a track map of Sheffield Midland. All because the driver was pissed.
That said, it’s unbelievable that people want him, metaphorically, burnt at the steak and kicked out of the club. He’s young, very lucky he didn’t hurt anyone or himself. The justice system will deal with him as will, I suspect, Utd in no uncertain terms.

But everyone should get a second chance surely, or do we condemn him as a cunt forever!

I thought this earlier but then I thought that the difference between the 2 is that JOC probably wouldn't do it in the first place based on his behaviour so far as a Blades player, therefore what we're saying is the more 'twattish' looking personalities are more likely to do something stupid.

This is not me saying that McBurnie is a twat, just that he displays certain attributes that could be seen as 'twattish'.

As you're fully aware by now, I'll always put myself up to be shot at :)

Stupid? Yes.
But is it something that most people haven't done in their lives, knowingly or unknowingly? Certainly not

Cant be doing with this whiter than white shit I keep seeing on here and social media in general since the Lawrence and Bennett crap.

You can buy a breathyliser from most car spares or off the ineternet. You are required to carry two if you drive in France so they could bring that system in here.

Don't agree with this at all. It's indicative of a bad decision made by an employee of the club, nothing to do with our scouting network.

Is it only young players from the British Isles who drink drive?!

The point is that we've signed someone who's clearly got a screw loose because our domestic CF options were so limited.

A £20m signing for us should tick more boxes but we had to compromise due to fishing in a very small pond.

Not only basing this on the drink driving either - that for me was just confirmation.

There are plenty. I've got one. However there's many times the morning after where it's said there is no alcohol left in me, but I didn't feel right to drive.

as well as some good stuff, you don't half post some crap at times Ricky and this is right up there. you've hated McBurnie since day one.

if he'd banged 5 goals in by now this thread wouldn't exist. just sayin'
It would because he’d still have been nicked for drink driving.
Do I think he should be kicked out of the club? No, I don’t. He’s made a mistake and he needs both a kick up the arse and some checks to see if he’s just a daft lad or if there is some kind of underlying problem. But it’s not really defendable, whether it was him, Billy, Bash, whoever.

I'm Ricky, not DronnieBlade or Scooter_mcgavin. So you're wrong there.
