I'd be up for getting some depending on how many pennies it will be

If I get time tomorrow I'll follow your link and try to get a price. It seems that we get our own label stuck on a keg of one of their ales - anyone have a preference for which of their beers we'd like to put our name on??

I'll e-mail Pez and let him know what we're talking about and make sure it fits in with their plans.

How's this for an idea for Accomm after the festival??

Your suggestion re the canal boat would be great as the ground is next to the Trent & Mersey canal so that would sort the accommodation out ? As you say though it would take four weeks worth of traveling to attend.

Mind you how much would a two day hire cost from one of the local canal boat companies ? You could all crash on board the boat for the night then take the boat back the following day.

Given I've lived on a narrowboat for 15 years we'd have no worries moving it or getting through the locks - and as Pez says, the ground is right next to the Trent & Mersey Canal (but it would take a month to get our boat from the Chesterfield Canal over to Northwich!!)

Count me in - not far from Sunny Sale..!!

If you pop Sheepdip a PM through if you haven't already... I know he was giving final numbers today so it'll just ensure you're on the list :)

Okay - so the final number is 14 (with Raul and Brownie as maybes) - - should be enough of us to have a bit of a laugh - and also to meet up with some of the forum guys from Cheshire too. I'll PM everyone to confirm tickets.

We have till Feb 4th to make our suggestions about beers (and to decide whether we want to have Spire Brewery make us a "special" - I haven't had chance to follow the link Keenzy, but I'll try again next week)

Thoughts about hiring a bus and driver - or about staying over would be appreciated as we may need to book soonish if we want to use that wedding place, or hire a canal boat for the weekend (can't be drunk in charge of a canal boat!!)

Well i'll put some money towards the keg...Even though I won't like it it's all for a good cause:D

Thanks for giving the beer festival a bit of a push on here sheepdipblade, we are all looking forward to an evening of drinking some choice ales & ciders. Even though our event is not a "camra" run event we received high praise last year for our first beer festival from our local North Cheshire Camra rep & it must have been good as he went from one end of the bar to the other trying the two ciders & ten real ales from Cheshire. I think that we will be having two ciders again from our local producer in Eddisbury, with last years being a strong dry cider at 6.9% & medium one at 5.4%.

We are to have a meeting next week with our beer manager where we hope to get some idea re the ales that will be available to us, I am expecting a pm of sheepdipblade re a suggestion for a beer for the festival.

Early suggestions are something from Spire or Thornbridge brewery....

Pez.

If I get my chance I would love to put a Thornbridge one in the mix of beers and due to a connection we have I think one could be from Weetwood from Cheshire. The chap who is sourcing our ales has the knack of obtaining some excellent ales for the Cricket Club bar he runs and the last beer festival that he had there was well blessed with good ales.

There is also a potential for a "home brew" from a chap who runs the home brew stall on our local market as a bit of publicity for him.

If we have all tickets sold for the festival then we may need the home brew barrel !! The club will also be running a bar (as they did last time) to cater for those non believers who do not drink real ale (heathens !!).

Following our beer festival meeting on Thursday it was decided that we would be upping the barrels for the festival from 10 to 14, still 2 ciders (one being lookat at called Moonshine at 7.5% so should be good ?) and a barrel of home brew to promote the home brew stall from our local market.

So with any luck it should be a good evening and the task is to see if all beers & ciders can be finished off on the night.

No lightweights please. There is some beer to be drunk.

Message for those signed up to the Festival

Just sent ChesterBlade a PM that was so bloody long I don't have the heart to send it 14 times - so I've put it on here as a shortcut.

The cheque should be waiting for Pez at the Marston Arena by now and our tickets will be waiting for us on the day.

So you tight buggers all owe me a fiver, which I'm counting on for my beer and curry money this weekend - so I'll see you at the Lion before kick-off :D (More seriously - if people are a bit strapped at the mo - then there's no desparate rush)

Still a few questions we need to get sorted out -

Are we going to run with Keenzy's idea of contributing our own keg? I like the idea (and I realise I still have to get a costing - try to get it by Sat). If we're going to do this we need to -
Decide which of the Spire Ales we want to take.
Decide what we're going to call our beer
Decide on a design for the pump clip
Get someone to draft up a design for the brewery

How are we going to sort transport and / or accomodation?
Either a minibus and driver for the day - or find somewhere to stay and sleep it off. (Think I prefer the first - not sure about riding a 900cc bike across the Cat and Fiddle with a hangover :o)

We have 14 signed up (I think - we have 14 tickets anyway!)

Happy Hippy (never far away when beer's in the offing)
Linz and Foxy (I know you said "probably up for it" - I've assumed you are. Hope that's not a mistake)
Silverfox

The One
Raul and Brownie (I know you're both only possibles - and Raul is claiming to be a Wittoner Swamp Thing - but I've got you tickets. If you find you can't make it will you let me know and we'll see if we can shift em on)
Sale Blade

And ChesterBlade's dad and his two scouse mates who are honorary Blades for the day.
and me

Dresscode - any United shirt!!! Be proud and show our colours!!!

If anyone else is interested - will you let me know asap as Pez is shifting tickets quickly - though we might be able to offer you Raul and Brownie's tickets if they can't make it.

I'll pay for my ticket as promised, but where's yer Drill Field gone, where's yer Drill Field gone...;)

On first train back so wont be around post-match. Perhaps Nick can pay you and I'll pay him back when I see him?

If anyone is really struggling to chuck the cash across, you could always Paypal it me (as a paypal gift to avoid charges) and I'll pass it on on Saturday.

No rush for the monies - more concerned that we get this keg organised so we don't bugger about the festival organisers, and that we decide if we're going to stay or not so we can sort out accom

Just seen the two words every Vics fan wil fear the most linked with them.

Stephen Vaughan.

The guy from Chester? Been in the air for a little while now. Apparently he's mates with the Jim Rushe who took over after Connett.

Got to agree with your comment though mate - When you look at the mess Chester City are in I wouldn't want Vaughan anywhere my club.

I know things aren't exactly rosey on all fronts at the Lane - but bloody hell - this stuff puts it all into a different perspective!

I should be up for it, the only thing is that i have got to run it past Mrs Brown, and ensure that i get time off work. Digs wise, i have got a shitty two man tent so i'll train it over and doss down in it wherever i can pitch it up.

I'm absolutely fucking brassic at the moment, but i will give you the tenner at the Plymouth match if thats ok

Cheque arrived ok and now in my sticky mit (well the banks anyway !!). Got to agree the mention of SV sends shudders, having a mate who supports Widnes Vikings and the Shitty mess they were left in does not inspire confidence in any way shape or form when it comes to a sporting theme (no pun on the camra publication honest !!).

We are all looking forward to welcoming all attendee's to the 2nd Beer Festival and re accomodation I did send suggestions to Sheepdip.

Beer list will be posted for you as soon as we have it.

Cheers

Pez.

I'd say Jaipur as well. Probably the most reasonably priced when doing the cost/ABV division.

It's also a little sharp, so many others will get a chance to sup it.

Honest. St Petersburg if it's brewed at the time (not sure it will be) would be truly delightful, but nowt wrong with Jaipur.

Then again, I'm more bothered about sampling brews which I can't get!

That is what our beer manager said, he has a good network for getting ales & I will ask what price the Jaipur would be. Though having just had a batch of Thornbridge ales at my local (Penny Black which is a Wetherspoons real ale mecca) the Kipling was on form as well as the Hark, Jaipur, Equinox, Hopton & Lord Marples I too want to try different ales.

I am just waiting for the Hawkshead beers to now appear on the bar at the PB (sneak preview of them in the cellar last week) Red, Lakeland Gold, Brodies Prime & Organic Stout, it is just a shame that they could not get the All English IPA a nice little 6% one.

As the festival is in the summer then flavour of the day will be lighter ales though I know we are getting at least one Mild (I hope) and will have to see what else can be obtained.

As the football is on we may see if we can get some linked to this, ie Phoenix West Coast IPA but as said before it depends what the brewers are putting out at that time of year.

And whatever beer we obtain seeing as we look set to make it £1 per half it should make for a good session.

Pez.

Yo Bro.. sounds like a good night - really sorry I can't join you - can't get time off work.:cry2: .bummer.

I'm sure you'll have a great time - have a pint on me...

:drunk:

Then again, if we're having our own beer, it would have to be a Spire brewery beer, not Thornbridge.

So that knocks out Jaipur and St Petersburg.
