Are the club missing a trick?

For these low key 1st/2nd/3rd round cup games against lower league opposition. Why not offer triple loyalty points to get people in? It can be abused, by people buying tickets & not attending, so they could quite easily have a system where you get 100 loyalty points upon purchase with a further 200 loyalty points when your card/ticket is scanned, this would help two things:

1. It helps new fans easily obtain 500+ loyalty points.

2. It generates better attendances for these kind of downbeat cup games.

Ok this may sound hypocritical as I don't live in Sheffield anymore and don't get to watch United as much as I'd like but Sunderland in the cup (or Blackburn for that matter) are just as interesting as most of the premier league fixtures. Or has our fanbase already become Premier league knobheads?

I’m going tonight and went to Blackburn. But honestly, the Blackburn game was so half arsed, it took me until today to forget my promise to swerve the next round.

Wilder couldn’t even remember the name of the competition. And I don’t blame him - these games matter so little in wider context.

I understand this is very complicated though.

The majority who attended blackburn and tonight will be the same 5000 who go to pretty much any home game, any competition. Opening the Kop wont make much of a difference to the attendance.

Think most supporters know that the team / management arent interested in the cup, yes the fringe players will get some miles in the legs but that's about it. They just arent bothered by it. Lose and they'll be happy, win and they'll say all the right things but will probably be pissed off at having to play another game!

Personally think that's not the right approach, as for me winning breeds confidence and you only need to draw a colchester / crawley (with respect) at home next round and before you know it you can be quite far into the competition. But hey ho, its worked for Wilder and his team in the last 3 years so who i am to grumble

Tickets prices for cup games have to be agreed with the opposition I believe.

I tend to agree but the problem is what if we get Crawley, beat them and then get a plum tie in the last eight? The first team will want to play. All of a sudden it’s a big match, two games from the final and all that. It can be a distraction and worse, what if someone like Mousset plays and gets injured?

I like Cup runs but I can see why Wilder’s not that bothered. Imagine getting to the final, being tonked 6-0 by Man City, it’s only February and we’re not safe yet.

Well that performance made me look a proper bellend, me telling people to go to but the club saying 'nah don't bother'.
