Freeman for Fleck if he isn't fit. Wilder said it will be touch and go but for me Fleck comes straight back in if he is fit.

Robinson was decent at Bournemouth when the ball came near him but then played less than an hour in the 2 home games. He's not played in a suitable attacking setup in any of the games. Early days. He's too good not to adjust and make a big impact.

Precisely. He wasn’t recruited to be part of a front two in any regular basis. We won’t see that much going forward, particularly when the Moose is match fit.

For me, he doesn’t. Freeman is a better player and has demonstrated that where it matters.

I agree. Morrison looks lethargic and off the pace at the moment. No where near a starting place in my opinion.

I watched him closely on Tuesday and thought the same.

When out of possession he was just jogging around looking like he didn’t know what to do, where to run and where to stand.
Unfortunately in that 1st half we had little possession, so apart from a great dribble Ravel (like many others) was poor.

2nd half we had more possession, so Ravel saw more of the ball and finally he started looking good.
Excellent first touch and great awareness of players around him.
You can see he clearly has loads of talent but not the work rate, hence a luxury player.
Ravel reminded me of Luke Freeman but without the work rate and desire.

Can see Ravel being brought on as sub to change games but on that performance don’t think he’ll start many.
Of course it was a nothing match...and all our players were lethargic and underpar....so makes it more difficult to impress.

Bit harsh on Freeman but for a tough, defensive away game at Chelsea I tend to agree......unless he brings Fleck in, moves Freeman to no10 just behind Oli and drops Robbo....?

I disagree. Didn't get on the ball all that much, looked tidy carrying the ball but when it came to passing he was very poor. I wouldn't be surprised if he had 60-65% pass success rate.

Granted a few times when he did misplace a pass he pressed and won the ball back.

IMO Fleck is considerably ahead of Freeman.

I know its a bit fluid any way and having Sharp up top is completely different to McGoldrick up top but I much prefer it when we play with 2 strikers.

It was tough to choose between Robinson and McGoldrick. I think both have performed to a similar level in the first 3 games. Then it was a choice between McBurnie and Sharp, which I think the height will be a huge advantage. Get Baldock whipping the far post crosses with McBurnie pulling onto 5ft10 Azpi and we could cause some damage.

How is Morrison ahead of Robinson? What has he shown that makes you think he's anywhere near ready?

He isn't. He's ahead of an injured Fleck. In keeping with the thread title and the thinking Mousset will be included on the bench against Chelsea, one of McBurnie, Sharp, Didsy and Robbo would have to miss out entirely. McBurnie is likely to start, Sharp is a priceless option off the bench. So its either McGoldrick or Robinson for the other starting birth. Didsy gets the benefit of the doubt for me considering he is far more familiar with our system (although neither have pulled up any trees in the games so far). Therefore Robbo misses out.

No one suggested he start next game. But he crafted the winner against Blackburn and improved 2nd half.

My thinking goes back to Bouncing Day when we dropped Billy and bought in Brooks to play in the 10 behind Leon......worked a treat that day!!

Agreed, I can see Robinson/McGoldrick being able to do that role too. I think we have progressed into playing that most weeks especially in the Championship last season. With Sharp the out and out strike and McGoldrick playing as a sort of no 10.

Whereas in League 1 it was Sharp & Clarke both playing as 9's.

Watched Chelsea v Leicester so expecting them to come at us at pace 1st 20 minutes, then they seem to ease back well they did against Leicester but saying that Leicester should have won.

Then you considerably over estimate Fleck, but that’s de rigeur in S2. He is one paced, sloppy in possession and opponents go past him with some ease into the space behind him.

I’m not sure when you have seen Freeman? He was instrumental in our recovery at Bournemouth and victory over Palace.

If we play one up we risk getting penned in. An outball to McBurnie won’t help us if he’s isolated.

Yep. A trap Warnock fell into routinely, last time we were in the Prem. Poor old Rob Hulse spent most of that season charging around 20+ yards away from anyone else in a red and white shirt (or a Grimsby one when we were 'away'). One up top would severely limit our cutting edge, and might tempt us into hoof, while ensuring we surrender max amounts of possession. Can't see it happening under Wilder.

I have indeed seen the Space Rock thread, as you're kind enough to ask BushBlade . Will get to it eventually. Every time I've remembered it in the last couple of weeks, I've been too shagged out, or too busy, to say anything coherent--though coherence ain't necessarily a virtue, I guess, on a space rock thread. Thanks for the prompt. Be assured that I'm standing on the runway. And I'm waiting for take-off.

;)

Fleck hasn't been fantastic but has proven he is essential in our system for 3 years. His performances this season have also probably been roughly on par with Freeman.

To say Freeman was "instrumental" in our games vs Bournemouth and Palace is a big overstatement. He was there, on the pitch but no more "instrumental" than anyone else on the pitch. Bournemouth - played 12 minutes and had 16 touches. Palace 62 minutes and had 40 touches. He is no where near as involved as Norwood or Lundstram.

Harsh to judge either on 1.5 games each but Freeman hasn't pulled up any trees this season, neither has Fleck. Fleck is a proven key player in our system over the last 3 years and is better defensively than Freeman which will be needed vs a very attacking Chelsea side away from home.

He made the goal against Palace, how can you say he wasn't involved?

I didn't say he wasn't involved. Norwood scored 1 and assisted the other Tuesday night but he was still rubbish.

L Freeman hasn't been rubbish though, the one negative was when he tried too many step overs against Leicester, other than that he's been one of our most dangerous players, bit of pace, good with the ball, great vision. What about that pass to Robinson against Palace?

Obviously not saying Fleck isn't great, but Freeman has done enough to keep the shirt for me.

Fair enough we all have our opinions. I just think Fleck is the more solid option. I really do think Freeman's passing needs improving. Although vs Leicester no one covered themselves in glory when it came to passing but he stood out to me as a frequent offender.

As I have said above still early days for every player and its impossible to judge this early on.

I dont think so, why drop our top scorer from the bench. Billy is always likely to get you a goal as at Bournemouth
Im not saying I want Billy to miss out all im saying is if Mousset is in the squad then the most obvious person he would replace is Sharp. Who else's place could be take?

SOTHALL_BLADE SLAMS THE STAR

The poster is reported to be furious with their recent article after it failed to "confirm either of those things".

Being a "journalist" is fun.

Not really. I was just pointing out that the whole premise of this thread is based on guesswork by the OP.

Personally, i don’t think Mousset will be in the match day squad. That’s my guess.

What I do know is that CW wouldn’t be “confirming” it two days before the match either way.

At the expense of who, Billy, Didsy, Robinson ?

Given that he has to pretty much go with the obvious cover of Moore, Jags, Besic, Osborn and Morrison that leaves any 2 from 5 strikers to start and 2 on the bench, decisions, decisions. I'd say Didsy is probably most at threat with the only other option that he maybe replaces Morrison on the bench.

That pesky Lundstram, he's put a reet spanner in the works :)
Robinson all day long for me. I think Didsy has adapted quicker to the pace of the Prem.

If we get beat today, I hope it’s not because we conceded so much possession trying to stifle Chelsea. Let’s at least go down playing “our game.”

Really? I've just read that article and it doesn't say anything of the sort. It says "Wider is excited about him" and "Wilder could..." involve him. But nowhere in that article does it state that Mousset will be confirmed in the matchday squad - as per the title of your thread.

Are you wishing it to happen maybe? I know I am. I thought he looked very good when he came on the other night. A lot more energy, skill and gumption than most of the others on the night.
