Wilder will decide who is a ‘support player’ and who is ‘main man’, though I don’t believe for one moment that he thinks in those terms. He’ll pick the players he thinks most likely to get us a positive result in any particular game, regardless of ‘fans favourites’ or not.

There is absolutely no reason to leave out Ollie Norwood, unless he has an injury problem. It simply won’t happen. In any event the idea of players being ‘dropped’ is somewhat anachronistic in these days of 14 man football, tactical substitutions and rotation. I appreciate such concepts have yet to reach the hinterland of S2.
Norwood and Lunny have very different roles. I don't think either is suited to the others role. And Norwood touches the ball more than anyone else in our system. I think to describe him as the main man in this team is fair.

Agreed but that doesn’t make Lunny a ‘support player’. He’s in the team on merit. That may change. It’s a long season and we have a very good squad. Not many outfield players will be selected to start every game.

I completely agree that he’s in on merit. I just think Norwood has a more important role in how we play. Lunny has been better than Norwood so far. But I wouldn’t trust him to take responsibility for the ball as much as Norwood yet

I can’t get my breath sometimes.
Sharp is God>Sharp shouldn’t make the 18
Norwood is key>Norwood shouldn’t play
All based on a game and a half of football?

Sharp should always be in the squad, we have nobody like him, and until Morrison/Besic get up to speed Norwood is head and shoulders the best player for his position. We had this all last season as well, so much leeway is given to some players but Norwood gets hardly any. He’s not a robot. Let’s hope that he plays a blinder in the coming games and rams the negativity down doubter’s throats, which to be fair he did most times last season.

It’s a forum and with a forum you get opinions. If you watched Norwood on Tuesday you will agree that he gave the ball away on numerous occasions which if they were a better team, I.e. Chelsea would have been punished.
Wilder tried Ravel in numerous positions on Tuesday night he is looking at ways to get him into the match day 11.

Do you think Robinson has played well?

I thought he looked very lively against Palace and understand similar at Bournemouth, although I didn't go.

He's playing at a higher level against much superior players but still looks a threat. His first touch could be better but I'd suggest that dropping him won't help.

My point was more about the 'hero to zero' attitude on here. In the pre season friendlies he was a superstar and now he's apparently crap.

God help the Mouse if he doesn't get a hat trick on Saturday.

Possibly, it would explain his recent performances.

I thought hes been one of our more assured players to be honest. Thought he was excellent against Palace too.

Funny how people see things so differently.

Robinson was decent at Bournemouth when the ball came near him but then played less than an hour in the 2 home games. He's not played in a suitable attacking setup in any of the games. Early days. He's too good not to adjust and make a big impact.

I didn't see Tuesday so can't comment. Everyone gave the ball away first half on Saturday. Like everyone, Norwood was much better 2nd half. His ability to distribute is the basis of how we play. I think it's insane to even consider dropping him because of a couple of games. How do you replace him? Do you completely change the style? Who's captain? What happens when Norwood comes back in?

Lunny is a support player, dont try to make him the main man. Besic and Morrison are fringe starters who've proved nothing and don't have the understanding of how we play. If we drop Norwood I'll be astonished, and with all of last year's midfield gone we'll be 3-0 down at half time
But if you didn't see the Cup game, how do you know that Besic and Mousset don't understand our game. I can't imagine Wilder putting them out there without knowing how,why and where they fit in? ;)

And I wouldn't be surprised to see anyone dropped if they continue in poor form. Norwoods short game was pretty pants and better teams than Blackburn would I suspect have capitalised on his errors. We could easily have been 3-0 down by half time had their finishing been accurate.

After the Palace game I gave Jonny Lundstram my coveted and prestigious MOTM award. I then watched the whole game again on TV. I gave it to Norwood (the award, not the television...)

Replace Robinson. Hasn't done an awful lot so far

Agree. Out of the signings we've seen play, he appears to be the only one who might be out of his depth at PL level.

Hopefully McBurnie's strong hold up play will allow us the luxury of playing Luke Freeman.

I expect he'll go with Norwood, Lundstrum, Freeman though and two upfront.

I've got to admit I'm not enjoying this flat 3 we seem to be going with at the moment, I loved seeing Duffy floating around in the hole.

Robinson would look a completely different player if he played with mcburnie.
Playing with mcgoldrick you’re basically playing on your own half of the time as he drops deep most of the time

My concern re Robinson thus far is that he seems to lose possession incredibly easily. Plus he and McGoldrick don't seem to be linking well at all.

Robinson has had his chance and if Wilder is good to his word then the ones that don’t perform get rotated. It’s time for Sharp and McBurnie, our leading goal scorer on the bench thus far is criminal, he deserves his chance.

Lets face it against Chelsea we are probably going to have 35% possession at most so a) we need to be firm in midfield and b) we need that "out" ball to attack on the break......that was sorely missing against Leicester where we would clear our lines only for the ball to come straight back. Moose with his pace and power would be ideal for this game, however I think it has probably come a couple of weeks to soon so rather than balls into the channels for him to chase it will be hoofs to Oli to try and win them in the air for the knockdowns.

I could see us playing Oli on his own with an extra midfielder, (Besic to add that bit of bite) and pushing Freeman further up into a no10 role.

Dropping Norwood seems unthinkable and would change the whole dynamic of our Midfield......I can't decide however if that would necessarily be a bad thing in a game like this!

If we play one up we risk getting penned in. An outball to McBurnie won’t help us if he’s isolated. It’s a tricky one and I do think it’s a good idea to frustrate Chelsea and try to get Lampard to make tactical changes so maybe we have to play McGoldrick with McBurnie in his usual role of dropping deeper out of possession and hope he can get forward quickly enough to support McB when we have hit a long one out of defence.

We need some kind of threat to stop them piling forward and getting overloads against us.

I think he's done Ok playing out of position. Thought he looked lively on Saturday without creating a lot.

How is Morrison ahead of Robinson? What has he shown that makes you think he's anywhere near ready?

Robbo will start, run himself into the ground and chase those defenders all over. Defend from the front.
Mouse to replace him and add some fresher more powerful legs to try and disrupt them.

Won’t be much change to starting line up, McG maybe out for McB
