I don't make that many predictions. Last time I did I predicted 4 straight losses in a row, culminating in the Dingles game at Oakwell and mattbianco threatened to streak naked in front of City Hall if this transpired. Well, with a couple of dodgy pens we managed to scrape a draw in the last of the sequence and Matt was happy to put his Kecks on again.

This is my next set of predictions - It has got as good as it gets for this season! We will not get into the play offs and will get thoroughly spanked at the Hawthorns this Satdi.

With Killa gone and no time to get a decent replacement (Siep would do but 6 weeks means he misses a hell of a lot of games) the parallels to 2 seasons ago with BT are stark.

Against Bolton Jaskeleinen could have sat in a arm chair and watched it from his lounge at home and still not conceded. If we perform that poorly against a side in the bottom three of the Prem, so low on confidence, who have not kept a clean sheet all season (until they played the mighty Blades) then we won't even get a sniff of posession against the Baggies. They will take the piss and smack 4 past us. I'll bet we kick the West Brom players more than we actually kick the football on Saturday.

Lastly, Bunn seems to have gone back into the vein of form he had a month or so ago. Video evidense suggests that he has recently added holographic legs to his portfolio of holographic palms.

Burn me down if you don't agree (figuratively speaking of course I am not really into the same sort of things that Darren is).

As good as it gets before or after tonight's game?

I almost agree that this is as good as its going to get but I think we have every chance of sneaking into the playoffs because our opposition to the race are so ordinary as well. We will finish between 5th and 8th this season - im going for 5th because I think we will put together one good run as usual that will hurl us over the line.

After that, lap of the Gods. But I dont hold out massive hope.

I think tonight's game will be a low scoring draw.

Howard is bound to play and score. He has been interviewed in the press and stated that he thinks it will be a very tough game and a contrast of styles with teh Blades being in their faces 90 mins 100% of the time and Reading th eonly team capable of playing football.

I see Reading taking the lead and us battering them without creating much and one going in off Cresswell's arse 2 mins from time.

You heard it here first!

I've got this feeling we're heading towards Blades v Forest II in the play-offs.

It was around this time last year leaving Deepdale after that thrilling 0-0 that I said 'see you in the play-offs' to one of their fans. He laughed at me then as well ;)

Bunns vein of form? This is based on one game presumably.

Serious question based on your comments about Jaskeleinen. Did you go on Saturday?

My feelings on how this season will pan out;

Scenario #1 - United make the playoffs and go up
KB will be offered a new extension to his contract and given the smallest transfer budget in the Premier League to bring in 4 or 5 championship players to aid a slim hope of survival in the top flight.

Scenario #2 - United make the playoffs and don't go up (again)
KB will keep the manager's job with the promise of "substantial" funds in the summer to forge yet another promotion push. This will be followed by the signing of 2 permanent players on the cheap and 4 loan signings from other championship clubs - United will miss out on the playoffs at the end of 2011 and the penny will finally drop.

Scenario #3 - United miss out on the playoffs
KB will resign as the dummy will fly out of the pram and KM wont sack him. We will then offer the job to Gary Speed who will have to work with all four limbs tied together and sell players to be able to bring loanees in. We will play decent football with a team of triers and finish just below the playoffs - which will be followed by Speed becoming Cardiff or Swansea manager.

Lets see how psychic I am at the end of the season and next

Anyone else get the feeling that Kenilworth is the sort of guy who thinks every silver lining has a cloud?

No and No.
Based on QPR and Bolton. Penalty Ok, not expected but he should have taken the cross for their second. He did make some good saves in that game but the basics really are, well, the basics. However, you can just see the signs appearing. Hope he does well tonight but the fact still remains he worries me from a consistency point of view and his concentration.

Bob/Jim,

 just laughed my tits off!

Bob - you do start to feel that way when you support United.

Jim - I'm covering all bases :D

So that entire paragraph was based on what? 2nd hand accounts or even better the highlights?

Comment from my missus (Arsenal fan) after another Bob rant about stupid people saying "it evens itself out over the season":

I used to think that you just moaned all the time about United having bad luck, but now I've suffered a couple of seasons, you actually do seem to just get more and more crap happening to you. Has it always been like it?

It's the sort of thing that comes from almost 40 years supporting TRAWW I have to tell you. You get to feel it in your waters after a while.

I used to travel, wide eyed and completely optimistic, to places like The Shay, Elm Park, Layer Road, The Den (old), Vale Park, Brunton Park, Odsall, Burnden, Sincil Bank etc. What brought it home to me was that vote a few months ago about the best goal, best game, best player etc. To be fair there wasn't a hell of a lot to choose from even in the last 30 years.

sum reight negative fookers on here .........................

after toneight we'll be 4th in the league..... how can we fail with Mr Blackwell in charge of the team and Mr McCabe in charge of finances ?

Well surely after 40 years you accept that this is the Blades way?

When RA bought into Chelsea a common conversation seemed to be amongst fans would you want him buying into your club?
My answer was always that it wouldn't be the Blades if we got shit loads of money and started buying top players. It just wouldn't feel the same.

Thats true. We would probably moan if it happened as well :D

Didn't our form drastically improve after we sold Beattie?

I have to agree with you on Bunn. Being at the other end of the ground it looked as though the two scorers scored from better angles than they actually did. Having seen the goals on T.V. I think Bunn should have saved both goals. By the way he only had one other save to make all game. I don't think he will be selected tonight.

I' not interested in getting on your back Ken, but i think you are being harsh on Bunn. He had a pretty good game against QPR. He made several decent saves. The 2nd (which was never a free kick) he could have come for, but still the defense should have dealt with it. The save in the last minute was a very good one. Also remember him making a few saves in front of us in the frst half as well. He's not spectacular, but he's been a lot better of late.

Agree, as of late, Olle, he has been much better. However, there are just those little signs coming through again. That little bit of a lack of conviction as evident in the way that he seemed invisible for the first at Bolton and went down far too early for the second. Should have saved both of those. Admitedly the defense was completely AWOL but good keepers keep you in games.

He wasn't invisible in the first half he just didn't have anything to do except one easy save. Bolton were poor and created nothing in the first half. They did a lot of diving whenever they got near the area especialyy Klasnic.

Invisible for the first goal not the first half, Willie.

See! Only end of the first half and he has made two great saves and a penalty save. What on earth do I know?

I come on this site to see what the people who went the game saw of what looks like a great result and the first two threads are moaning about our chances this season. Yes, saturday is going to be a difficult but comeon, lets be happy! 1 defeat in 10 games. 6 games at home without conceeding a goal. 6th in the league, a play-off place if the league finished today.

FlatBob
Indeed the boy did very well tonight and the penalty save was top draw. To be fair though Blackwell was quoted as saying he thought Bunny should have done much better with both goals conceded at Bolton. I really hope he does well and continues this sort of form. My main issue, though, is that keepers at the professional level need to be highly consistent. I am not certain Bunn is that consistent. People go on about him being young but its's not as though he is 18 and just out of the academy. Keepers really make the difference between a team delivering or a team failing. Outfield players can have an off day and still maybe snatch a goal or two in an overal average performance but any keeper cannot afford to make a mistake or two in a game because the consequence is that it costs the whole team.
