Apparently we are in for both Matty Phillips and Kalvin Phillips.

Which ever one comes in first but I don't see why we can't sign both of them.

Also heard Duffy is going and it was he himself demanding better terms, nothing to do with his agent. His agent didn't even know he had spoken to Wilder until after it all kicked off.

A shame if this is true and he will be leaving on bad terms. :(

I am sure Richard Cadette will be able to confirm this or not.

Wilder said it was on amicable terms.

Yeah but to leave because he wanted more money. Not sure anyone will offer him better terms than he has already.

Nope, pretty daft on his own part,

However, he's probably thinking he's got a couple of years left, he'll have just wanted to maximise what he got. He hasn't had the career and income that most players will have had and is trying to look after himself and his fam.

Shame really.

He is on very good money at the moment. He has had about 3 to 4 wage increases since signing for us.

Poor show from Duffy if true. He should be grateful he still has over a year on his contract and is playing in the Premier League at his age.

No doubt he is, but it's not money that will set him up for life. Prior to him being 28/29 I doubt he'd have earned that much as far as a footballer is concerned.

Yeah but we are not going to pay him more than £15k a week and he won't get better elsewhere.

Maybe this sounds harsh, but boo fucking hoo. He chose to be a footballer; the club (and the world by extension) doesn't owe him or anyone else a living.

Surely if you're on 15k a week for a year and was previously on between 2-8k for around ten years you should be more or less set for life, if you'd been a tiny bit smart.

Lets say he's averaged 4k a week for the 10 seasons prior.

I guarantee this kind of income does NOT set you up for life or anywhere near.

Chuck in Clarke as well. He’s better than the lanky streak of piss they had up front last season. I really shouldn’t say it as I want them to mess it up again.

It bloody well should? if it hasn't then your a grade A moron!
Why should it?

Think of it another way, disposable would be 1m over those 10 years, that's without spending a single penny of it on food etc.

1m wouldn't set me up for life at 33.

That's why you do coaching badges or study a skill that you can use once you've finished your footballing career. Unless you're an idiot, that is.
Which he has done but coaching/managing is difficult to get into and much less paid than a player. Wouldn’t worry about him he’ll be a millionaire, mortgage paid, retire early with football pension etc. N.B and will never have to buy a drink in Sheffield again.

You may well be right ScMc but the club doesn't owe Duffy a living. I mentioned earlier this summer that I could perhaps see Duffy departing before the start of the season although I didn't envisage it to be under these circumstances. Like a number of other players, the club's rapid progression over the last 3 years has left some behind. Whilst money may have been Duffy's primary driver behind engaging Wilder to seek a further uplift, his likely involvement next season would also need to be considered. With Freeman joining and Morrison, McGoldrick and Robinson all able to play in his role when CW plays with an attacking midfielder rather than a flatter 3, the most he could expect barring an injury crisis or him showing astonishing form to hold down a place in the side (something he's not been able to do consistently over the last 2 years), would be the odd 20 mins appearance from the bench.

It will be sad if he does indeed leave the club and I'm not sure he'll either be able to secure a better offer elsewhere where he'll have a better chance of player more. I can't think of many Champ sides that he'd walk into.

This just shows how stupid footballers pay is. I am fortunate i get what i think is a good wage clearing around 4K per month. I am not set up for life but i am relatively comfortable. If i earned 4 times what i do then i would be pretty secure for life unless i spent stupidly. Anyway whats wrong with him having a sports shop or newsagents when he retires. the good old days !

Invested carefully and living within your means? Easily. You could ensure a £50k a year income without leaving the house.

But that's assuming he doesn't spend anything. Clearly he will have, so my guess based on personal circumstances, is that even with strict saving he'll have a few hundred grand stashed away and probably still has a mortgage to pay.

Certainly not set up for life.

Really? 1m would set me up for life easily. It would pay my mortgage off and it still have well over 800k to spare. invest 500k wisely to get around 12k per year interest and piss the rest away.

A lump sum for a player when he retires will amount to £250,000 as well as footballers pension. If he retires due to injury which many do in their mid thirties they are insured for their contract amount for their current club plus wages they would receive for contract, this is why you often have players retire through injuries.

That 12k per year interest would probably cover your bills leaving no disposable. So that 500k would soon be eaten into.
