Not much longer to wait before we all know. Us 'idiots' haven't been wrong yet, we said it would be like this. I think you're more an outside bet now but who knows.
I don't think we will get quite what we asked for. That's how negotiations go I guess.

Would be amazed if he's a Bee this time in two weeks.

Don't think we need him now. Things change as time progresses. He may actually be left on the shelf because he is really over-valued. However, I suspect at the last minute the Bee's business model will kick in and he'll go for whoever is desperate to pay close to Bee's valuation and it won't be us. Good. Possibly dodged a bullet.

That's how it goes. We'll not sell players cheap with 3 weeks to go to the end of the window. Maupay will go, I'm fairly sure of that, we might not get the full price that we wanted but we started two weeks ago with the claim that he was going to you for £12m - that was never going to happen. As far as you are concerned, if you are entering the last two weeks desperate for a striker (Maupay, McBurnie?) it will be interesting to see how strong you'll be - the pressure will be on that's for sure.

Maybe. That's how it works and has worked ever since bloody windows originated. However, I think we have realised that we have enough to survive and progress and he's too much of a risk if he's overpriced after one good season. I think, looking at what we have now, we would rather chuck it at McBurnie.

I might be biased but imo, I think Maupay is better than McBurnie but they are fairly different players. I'm of the opinion that Maupay can develop much more but not so sure about McBurnie. Once upon a time, there was fairly major expectations around Maupay at a French national level but he got a couple of pretty bad injuries.

Different players and IMHO we have enough similar to Maupay we can get away with, whilst the likes of McBurnie we could do with. Whilst ideally Maupay would take over from Billy eventually, the immediacy of stopping in the division means McBurnie is the better option for now.

How does this no bid thing work then if we have cooled our interest

I mean something must have happened for the interest to be cooled if

In all fairness 12m was never the claim, it was 12 plus add ons which would increase

As above, nobody ever claimed it was £12m all in - I'm not sure why everyone is struggling with this so much.

You lot have seemed keen to claim we can't afford him & that you're super tough negotiators, but it's bollocks on both parts. Sounds like we had a fee agreed but Maupay and his Agent don't fancy it. We've had plenty of good deals out of Brentford, as have other clubs. Maupay will go too & it won't be for £20m.

I don't think anyone has ever said you can't afford him. Wouldn't have a clue tbh. I do know you've never agreed a fee with us.

Yes one of your brethren boldly stated that we couldn't afford him.

Bloody hell, just when you thought it was safe to go back on a thread..........

I'm sorry, I thought you might be interested to hear the latest on a player who you've got 250 pages worth of posts on.

Your mate NewBee had already updated us. You haven't actually told us what's going on, just more of the same, to be fair.

There's Les, and then there's the rest. Les hasn't said you can't afford him - we don't have that insight. The original assertion was that you were going to sign him for £11/12/13m - all we have said is that that number (or range) won't land him. We're not agitating for a fight or disagreement here - particularly as I have to visit to wonderful city of Sheffield most weeks (I love the views of the international peace garden). We are simply sharing what we know.

As Les says - we haven't been wrong yet, and we don't expect to be wrong anytime soon.

Wouldn't read into the number of pages, can only go a few posts on rumour mill before someone calls someone else a snowflake or a dickwaffle or something and then we get 8 pages of arguing.

The pressure, as I have tried to explain countless times, but failed to penetrate granite skulls, will be on Brentford. You have a disaffected want-away player. So much so that he’s not playing in pre-season matches for which he would otherwise be available. It will rapidly move from disaffection to agitation. The relationship will break down irretrievably. Maupay wants to go to the Premier League. Not in the vague, distant future. Now.

Those of us who have followed football for a very long time have seen this movie before, read the book and the screenplay. We know the ending. He’s going. You won’t get your ‘valuation’. Ye canna change the laws of physics.

Again that was never the original assertion, not sure why Brentford fans continue stating this

No shit Sherlock.

I don't care what you think you know. All I care about is Sheff U and our pre season. If you want to talk about business models then talk amongst yourselves. I want to talk about the Chris Wilder football model. The football that's taken us from 11th in league 1 to the Premiership in just 3 seasons.
I'd like to see us sign the lad, I'd like to see us sign McBurnie. It's exciting when the team you support shows interest in a player. Especially this season as we are playing Premiership football. But it's not at all interesting to here Brentford fans playing the same record over and over again. It's tedious and unnecessary.
Enjoy your season, hope you do well... But please no more posts on Maupay! Please for the love of God!

Beats Ovaltine I suppose.....zzzz...

You are agitating for a a fight. Nobody from here has come on one of your forums and given the big un about how we are going to sign Maupay for 12m. We have simply discussed its merits amongst ourselves on our own forum. The fact that you keep coming back to share your thoughts on the matter shows you are agitating this.

1) More money
2) Premier league
3) Greater exposure

Don't be daft, of course we can afford him, but anything above 15m for a championship striker (performed 1 season his entire career) is ridiculous. You can hold Villa to ransom, after all they're in for him too apparently.
Why would he want a move when he can earn much less at the 9th club in London?

They have a model you know

Brentford fans noses out of joint because they think they are somehow too special to sell a player to us. If he doesnt sign for us, it will have the sum total of fuck all to do with Brentford.

If he's holding out for more money/more prospects of winning then I can see why he wouldn't join us. And if he stays there it's only a temporary reprieve until he leaves later with even less time in his deal.

But fuck off with your "Northern" digs. Being in London is great. Being the 8th or 9th team on the list of London clubs is a less advantageous position. Especially when you're main trait over the last 4 years is being pretty but spineless.
