Can’t believe this thread is still going. This link has gone very quiet. In fact he doesn’t appear to be going anywhere at the moment because for all we can establish, no one is prepared to meet Brentford’s valuation. Until someone does, it speaks volumes.

Maupay is a good player and I would be happy for United to sign him at the right price but honestly I really don’t care. There are one or two other good options including McBurnie. If we get him for the rumoured 15-17m then I’m happy with that. Also a very good striker. It also looks far more likely than Maupay.

No club is going to pay Brentford’s current valuation. Whatever the idiots say there is an inevitability about his departure. Maybe not to us, that’s not my point. The nearer we get to Jim White Day, the more the player and his leech will agitate for a move. Brentford, contrary to the noise and nonsense from their deluded half a dozen fans, are subject to the laws of football physics as much as anyone else. They will compromise and they will sell.

No bids. No fucking bids... 😂

I know. It’s just that ‘of’ is usually the fall guy in favour of ‘have’.

It’s a damn fine preposition, used properly, and I wanted to redress the balance, make it feel wanted...

I still believe our Banana when he says Sheff U haven't actually lodged a bid ("speaking" to BFC, either directly or indirectly, is another thing). Either way, it seems your interest has cooled somewhat from being Sheff U's "No.1 target" as recently as a fortnight ago (per Richard Cadette).

WHU are unlikely still to be interested, if they ever were, since they've spent £69m on two strikers, Fornal and Haller. I know they've unloaded a few strikers, and other players, for decent money, so could afford NM even yet. But I can't see their owners splashing out £20m for a (likely) 3rd choice striker.

Villa seem certain to have moved on.

Brighton were rumoured to be interested, but nothing seems to have materialised. Plus there is bad feeling between their owner and ours from way back before they were involved in football. Of course, they are still hard-headed businessmen who will do any deal if the money is right, but still, neither will accept the idea that the other might be putting one over him.

All that said, he was left out of Bees' PSF vs Bournemouth today - a sure indication that the club feels someone may meet our valuation before the window shuts, so I expect him to move.

But I remain confident that you're wrong when you say BFC will "compromise" over our asking price, since we've never done so before, even when our financial position was less healthy. And if a move doesn't materialise, then he's still under contract until 2021, so should still have value for another year, assuming he doesn't go this summer, or in January.

If, as the rumours suggest that BFC the agent and the player are playing silly buggers, then ‘if’ NP goes anywhere it’s likely to be elsewhere, or another season in the Championship at Brentford.

I've no reason to doubt it.

But assuming BFC are the same - which we are - then that would at least partly explain why no deal has been done. In fact, it would also support Banana's contention that there's not even been an actual bid, since Sheff U will know that any bid for less than our asking price won't be countenanced. (WHU tried it on previously, for instance, and were told where to go)

According to Richard Cadette on 13 July: "On Maupay, as stated, the fee nor Brentford are the problem, that’s sorted. The agent problem is also sorted,"

Of course that still leaves open that it's the player who's buggering about. But if he is, then Sheff U must have informed him/his agent that they don't mess around either, so NM has nothing to gain by dithering.

Me? My guess is that NM's Agent was punting him around, Sheff U expressed an interest which the Agent seized upon. But this was both exagerrated and premature of him, since when Sheff U saw the asking price, they began looking elsewhere, leaving NM's head in the wrong place.

Fornals isn’t a striker. They have Haller and Hernandez. Offloading arnautovic, hugill and Carroll. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were in for another striker.

Crystal Palace need a striker to replace Batshuiyi. If they go with benteke, ayew and wickham they will be in trouble.

Brighton could do with improving up front. From last seasons showing andone isn’t good enough.

If Gayle leaves Newcastle they could do with another striker, can’t see Ashley spending £20m on a rotation option though.

Bournemouth could be in the market for a striker too after losing Mousset. I think they only have Wilson and King.

I reckon West Brom would be interested. Lost Gayle/Rondon and Jay Rodriguez. The money from those sales is reported to be £21m so they should be able to afford him.

All good calls. I could see him ending up at Palace where he probably won't get too much game time. I seriously think we were the best option for his progression, but it would appear himself & his Agent don't agree so good luck to them.

Not much longer to wait before we all know. Us 'idiots' haven't been wrong yet, we said it would be like this. I think you're more an outside bet now but who knows.
I don't think we will get quite what we asked for. That's how negotiations go I guess.

Would be amazed if he's a Bee this time in two weeks.

I think he would play pretty much every game for palace.

Benteke - awful
Ayew - slightly less awful

I think he would be first choice for palace, Brighton, West Brom and Newcastle.

I know newcastle have signed joelinton but from what I have seen of him (admittedly not too often) he doesn’t seem like an out and out number 9. They would either have to play him as a second striker in a two or improve massively and play him as a false 9 like firmino.

Haven’t been wrong yet? That means nothing if you haven’t said anything of real substance. No bids? As already pointed out about 50 times that doesn’t mean a fee isn’t agreed. Our biggest stumbling block has been the player and agent, not Brentford.
