Is that based on actual facts? I'd say the closer you get to the window closing, the more expensive players get as desperation takes hold. At least earlier in the window, clubs have a chance to replace their outgoing players.

There's no doubt a sweet spot.

There's definitely a sweet spot, I agree.

I don't think thats a lesson. Think thats just obvious.

However there are many factors, some controllable, some not, that impact on the ability to do so.
Wilder has said repeatedly!
I like to get the deals done early ,so obviously it's the clubs and players agents who play hard ball.
We are now pitching amongst real money and not having it all our own way.
Sure Wilder is aware of all this so I expect him pulling some rabbits out of the hat.

Completely get the are they worth that much argument and the risks surrounding them

Just don’t see the other cheaper alternatives that carry less risk, is Austin less risk ?? Sure he played more top flight but hasn’t exactly got clubs beating down the door to get him either

I think at this point it’s about taking a gamble so you may as well gamble on the lad who you think will give you more over the next few years

I mean what’s the Doctor pepper scenario here ?? If it goes tits up but we continue to be relatively prudent and smart with who we buy etc we are going to be in a relatively great position financially even if we go down again

In terms of really pushing the boat out and buying the type of player who most other prem teams would buy etc this might be the best time and price to get someone

Another year in championship banging in goals etc you may as well forget 15 or 20 million as prices

Eh? In this market, you're only getting your business done early by paying over the odds. These teams aren't gradually inflating the asking price over time.
Agreed.

A selling club will only snap up a deal which is difficult to refuse early on in summer (Mings anyone?)...

However If buying clubs want good value, then unfortunately you have to bid and do the long way, negotiate and the like... The selling club will do owt to drum up interest, spread rumours, media releases etc... agents will snake their way to more money for both them and their player...

We are in the latter category, which is why this summer is looking like a bit of a long one. But this is much preferred over shit or bust in my opinion.

Think of it like Buy It Now and Auction on Ebay. Buy it now is expensive but nice and easy... Bidding you get some fucking steals but it's a bit of a slog!

Its getting ridiculous, Swansea want more than 20m for mcburnie for a player that was on loan at Barnsley just over a year ago, brentford want more than 20m for maupay a player who was playing 2nd division French football 18 months ago, these players have never played top flight football, granted they've had a good season but at best you could describe them as being potentially premier league players, what these 2 clubs have to realise is that they're part of the problem in regards to the hyperinflation of footballers as they'll soon find out when they have to pay 10m for league 2 or non league players. Brooks went for 10 or 12 million for 1 season which I think is on the top side of being about right for his obvious potential. Also it begs the question, why is it that when we want a player the selling club refuses to sell until a bid of stupid money is tabled but it seems we sell to the first person walking past the door.

'Ah much does tha want fort' lad?'

'Idk 18.5 mil lol?'

*submits 15 mil bid*

*rejected*

'We tried lol'

McBurnie is their most expensive asset now though and with the James money in the bank they have a bit of breathing space.

Yep, exactly that. I said before it’s a pity we didn’t try and do the deal before the James cash came in as that really has changed the degree of pressure they’re under for this season. I think the only way this gets resolved in our favour is we offer crazy money, or McBurnie requests the move.

So little Brentford and little Swansea say fuck off when the big dogs come calling.
McCabe bends over.

Let's not look forward eh?

Why not rake up a bit of old muck and stick the boot in to the club.
#Agenda

Coming soon.....

Stupid response.
Nothing to do with Wilder.
Accept the truth.
I've praised the club this morning for its excellent pr but you ignore that.
People like you are boring. Think they're superior.
#bullshit

WE NEVER BID BIG MONEY FOR NEW PLAYERS!

Oh... erm....

WE ALWAYS ACCEPT BIG MONEY FOR OUR PLAYERS!

Not superior, just see a different picture.
As we seem to have made a loss every season since Methuselah was a kid, how else do we keep going without every now and again selling players?

Where have you praised the club? Am I supposed to check every thread before I reply to your tired old cliches, just in case you said something nice elsewhere?

I don't think I'm superior, but I do think I'm able to look forward and credit the club for the signings made so far, despite the ludicrous ownership dispute.

I suppose in your favour, you don't seem to be moaning about the sale of Geoff Salmons....

We are in a different situation now.
Roll the dice under the best manager in a generation or go back to Adkins
