Football is bonkers, Celtic have turned down a reported £25 million for a defender who I have never heard of, Baldock must be worth £30 million in that case.

Brighton want £45m for Dunk. He's pretty good but not that good...

How do you come to that conclusion when Richard Cadette has said there is an offer on the table for Maupay.

My thoughts are - if we’re close on maupay why are we suddenly bidding on mcburnie

I suspect (could be wrong) we’ve had confirmation that NM is likely to choose villa, West Ham so are kicking up our interest in mcburnie

I would prefer Oli to Maupay, i think with Freeman and/or Robinson behind him they will shine. BUT £15M is a good offer and for them to reject instantly means they are after alot more. Over to Oli to help persuade the move.

Add ons and clauses might be the way to get him.

A sell on clause and likely to be triggered success based add ons taking it to £18m would be acceptable.

Think we received somewhere in the region of £10M-£12M for Brooks who, despite clearly being a decent player with huge potential (as he's gone on to prove since), at the time had been something of 'bit part' player for us and, whilst scoring some impressive goals, wasn't particularly a prolific goal scorer.

Now I'm not trying to say that either Maupay or McBurnie are better than Brooks by any stretch (they are different types of players after all) but when enquiring about players who have scored a reasonable quantity of goals at Championship level (20 goals +), who are of a decent age, and when judging how the market appears to have 'moved on' this season once again, you can kind of see why the likes of Brentford & Swansea are going to quote silly prices.

Clubs know that a goals scorer will nearly always be their best / biggest asset so the prices gets inflated - disappointing and highly annoying but lets just hope that someone at the other end blinks soon before others clubs start to get involved and come along to pinch them as 'squad type' players which will ultimately still work in their favour due to weakening one of their rivals in the process (obviously a lot of money to be splashing out on squad fillers but some of our competitors can simply afford to do it unfortunately).

The good news is these prices put a massive value on our squad. If Dunk is worth 45m what are Egan and OConnell worth ?

The bad news is if we want to sign these kind of players we are going to have to get used to being 'ripped off'. McBurnie or Maupay could be the difference between staying up or going down so what does that make them worth ?

Whilst I agree we should value Egan, JOC and likes very highly and their value has undoubtedly risen. We do need to remember they have not yet produced at PL level - the likes of Dunk have been consistently high performers there.

And the same goes for McBurnie & Maupay so why the fuck are they worth £20m plus?
