CONFIRMED Jagielka

I’ve only ever had one very brief conversation with Jagielka, which was in late 2007 when he was at Everton. He’d just partnered Phil Neville in midfield and looked poor – weird to think that they first played him there after his signing, given he’d shown the previous season that his best position at that level was in defence. It happened after the game, I mentioned who I supported, and his attention quickly moved from the game to that – “we aren’t doing very well are we?” was his reaction, amidst various Everton fans that had come up to seek his autograph. He’d had a bad game, plenty at the game were audibly frustrated by him when he was on the ball (the Everton group I was with thought we’d sold them a dud), and he could have said ‘they/you’ aren’t doing well – he instead said ‘we’.

He’s not a Walker or Maguire that’ll pop up in the crowd, but he clearly still had an affinity to the club, and clearly still does.

He certainly does. My mate was at the Lane with him and those who think he couldn't give a fuck about us for 12 years are frankly talking out of the their arse.

Well that's two positions filled in one signing. CB/GK

Jags has more PL games in goal than Moore and Hendo combined!

John Terry was seen as the rock for their defence when they signed him, Jags isn’t for us. He’s a presence in the dressing room and a very able back up should we get any injuries

Had Terry not got injured that season and been out for so long I'm pretty sure they'd have worked their way into the top 2 by season end.

He s obviously been brought in as backup. No brainer. Premiership experience. ExEngland centre back. Imagine we are at the lane, twenty minutes remaining, we are one nil up against a top six side. We need to close the game down. Who would you rather we bring on, Martin Crainie (no disrespect) or Jags?

Can't wait for Arsenal at home, we're 1-0 up with 15 mins to go and CW brings on Jags for Sharp and there's a passing of the captain's armband

We're Premier League now, it's all private jets and limo's!

After what happened to Cardiff I sincerely hope not

Never moan about cranie lol who the hell would was great when used . experience counts for little we have thrived without it this reeks of sentimentality . England captain we can build on that success then hahahah . I'm not against him he was great but for us many years ago.
Might you be underestimating Jags influence off the park? We all know he is past his peak and may only cameo but the experience in terms of mentality is where I believe he will shine most. Also I think Chris has proven time and again he does not do sentimentality.I might suggest Coutts would still be here were that the case.

We need players in that dressing room upon whom the lesser experienced can look at and know they have "Been there done that".That for me is invaluable and if you want back up ,better a player of experience than a young kid.Especially at the back where composure is key.

Yet again Chris gets a Pint out of a half Pint pot ;) .I think it's very shrewd.

Jags is not looking for one last big pay day and it goes without saying he's a Blade through and through and will sweat blood for us all.

It's beginning to be like the old days when more than one local appears on the team sheet. Bring it on I say. I am far more excited about our prospects in the upper echelons this time round.

We're all Blades aren't we?

Nickname, he'll need a new nickname.

How about Toffeelka Pinch?

We had all this kind of talk last season about McGoldrick and before that Jake Wright,
Crazy signings ?
But that's our management team, Crazy like a Fox.

Not being an argumentative arse, just genuinely always been puzzled by this phrase. What advantage does knowing a club give to a player?

And don't say ''..because they know what a special place it is...'' because everyone thinks that about their own club ;)

Well, he'll know which dressing room to go into.....

I know what you mean and agree. What I meant was he's been here for years previously so will know people in and around the club, have friends in the city, know the ground etc so will find it easy to settle in.

Worth flagging the Wilder interview on the signing – no hiding the fact he’s really pleased with this.

Out of interest for anybody with Sky Sports, on the (Ahem) Sheffield United Premier League page, the 2006 game between us and Arsenal is featured. Nade scored the winner and Jags went in goal for the last half hour.
