You cannot teach experience. According to a toffee mate of mine, very much appreciated by the fans. He will , I am sure be doing some coaching as well. Come on an England captain passing on his knowledge!!!!!!! Remember the likes of Mo Salah bearing down on our back line!!!!! Think I need a drink!!!!!

Assuming Jags appears at Bournemouth his second debut will be 7036 days since his first or 19 years 3 months 5 days is this a club record?

Again assuming he plays against Bournemouth it will be 4471 days between appearances, or 12 years 2 months and 27 days is this a record between appearances?

More importantly, can we now confirm it was Jags in that picture from earlier and not Ribery?

I can remember this board being distinctly underwhelmed last season when we brought in Martin Cranie, Jags is a huge upgrade on Cranie.

None of our back three are blessed with pace but they are all effective because they have got great football brains. Jags has got that as well.

Think everyone just needs to sit back and enjoy his swansong next season

Far too much negativity to the move on here from our own fans. Give the man a chance guys, he's no mug and even if he doesn't play every week, I'm sure he could play a huge part this season. I'm really pleased for Jags to be back too after how it ended and he can be remembered again at the Lane for what a top pro he is.

I really hope he's doing or done his coaching badges too, I can definitely see a future in coaching/management for Jags.

As others have said, Gordon Cowans, Gary Speed, Craig Short spring to mind. Oh and my favourite Wayne "Chief" Allison!

If it doesn't work out Chris will drop him? What's the problem?
I hope there isn't one, but I was looking forward to someone who was in his early to mid-twenties rather than late 30's; someone with serious pace who can plug defensive gaps fast when we get caught on the break. I didn't want him returning when we were in the Championship, so I'm certainly not excited about him occupying a central defensive spot in the Prem.
When Villa signed John Terry I was happy they wouldn't be serious top two contenders. He wasn't the answer for them and I don't think Jags is the answer for us - but I hope I'm wrong.

Not really excited by this signing but can see why Wilder has brought him in.

We are lacking in PL experience and Jagielka will give us some of this.

An upgrade on Stearman.

Blades boss Chris Wilder said: “I don’t have to sign players for the fans to pat us on the back, we’re signing Phil because he is a really good footballer and a great character to have around in our first season back in the Premier League.

“He’s got an obvious history with the club which is fantastic but meeting up with him and seeing his desire makes me delighted to see Jags back at home.
“He’s had a fantastic career, he was deserving of his move when we dropped out of the top-flight last time and he went to a fantastic club and played all those games in the Premier League and captained England.
“To have Phil in and around our changing room in one of the most important seasons in our recent history is going to be invaluable.
“He’s come to play, he knows he’s got to earn his place, but I’m buzzing having spent time with him and seen the desire he’s got to succeed at the back end of his career.”

Jagielka has signed a one-year deal and represents the Blades’ second key signing of the week.
The club completed a club record deal to bring in QPR midfielder Luke Freeman on Wednesday, with manager Chris Wilder having several other targets as he bids to boost his squad in preparation for their Premier League return, which begins with an opening-day trip to Bournemouth on August 10.
Former Manchester United and West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison is also currently training with the club and could travel with the squad for the pre-season training camp in Portugal next week.
Blades players have embarked on some key fitness work and testing this week in preparation for their trip to the continent.
Wilder has professed to being pleased with the condition of his squad, while stressing that they must continue to improve ‘mentally, tactically and physically’ with the big kick-off just over four weeks away.

On the focus this week, Wilder said: “It is a conditioning week. We will ramp it up through pre-season and there are tests along the way. There are different types of tests, in terms of the games.
“They are good tests. We will be looking to improve right the way through pre-season.
“Mentally, tactically and physically, we have got to improve. Physically, the numbers where the Premier League lads are, they’re unbelievable. So that is a big one for us.
“The boys have come back in good shape and rightly so, because they know physically what they have to be at.
“We will sit down with the boys and talk to them about what they see their challenges are, individually. We will drill down into that.

I trust Wilder but we should be moving forward not backwards and I can’t forgive that handball that sent us down even now
Nothing to do with not getting the requisite amount of points over the season then?

but but Alan the Wendy pig says he's a fossil and he's a terrible signing. Is it too late to cancel the contact?!

I was on the fence a little bit when I heard the rumours earlier.

It’s since been announced and I’ve watched the interview and I’m really excited. So much so, I’ve opened a bottle of Franziskaner to celebrate.

John Terry was seen as the rock for their defence when they signed him, Jags isn’t for us. He’s a presence in the dressing room and a very able back up should we get any injuries

And Paul McGrath

Well respected both as a player and a man, and who can be proud of his career so far.
Jags will have it in his mind that he can play a major role in our success next season.
Both CW and Billy Sharp have had outstanding success on their return to the Lane and whose to say that Jags can't do the same?

Assuming Jags appears at Bournemouth his second debut will be 7036 days since his first or 19 years 3 months 5 days is this a club record?

Again assuming he plays against Bournemouth it will be 4471 days between appearances, or 12 years 2 months and 27 days is this a record between appearances?
What’s more, if Sharp and Jagielka play together against Bournemouth, it will be nearly 15 years (5,384 days) since they first played together, in a 1-1 draw against Watford in November 2004.

I think he will be the most technically gifted of all our defenders won't he ? He's still quick and powerful
Don't think we'd have got him.if it wasn't for his links with us, I'm amazed at some of the reactions
For a player whose legs have gone he did well to keep abameyaung and lacazette quiet last time I watched him

Don’t understand why anyone can be negative about this.

12 month contract... He’s obviously not just here to pick up a wage he’s here to fight for a place... but If he’s not good enough he won’t get picked... (but as part of a 3 I think he’ll be magic when he does play).

And don’t get me wrong thought Cranie was awesome but it’s not like he was an upgrade on bash... not saying jags will play instead of any of the current back 3 but he’s captained flippin England... knows the club inside out... and is another leader in the changing room.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we still brought another CB in near the end of the window either. Although with how Enda filled in last year I’d expect us now to be looking at left back cover.
