I can see it clearly now...
Baldock leaves
Bash is converted to right wingback, giving a more solid midfield defence
Jags slots in on the right next to Egan

I don't get this 'he brings PL experience' thing.

Football is football, the game doesn't change any higher up you go, the only change is the quality of player and him having 'experience' at almost 37 doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things.
You’re asking the wrong people though. Managers, people whose livelihoods depend on their success, people who actually do the job, seem to think that’s it's an asset.

They also roll out phrases like 'the right blend of youth and experience'.

What exactly is the right blend? Do they know or it just a lazy soundbyte.

I don’t know but Wilder seems to have clear ideas on how to build a team and then progress it so I’d guess he’s got a fair idea. It’s not science though, it’s not really quantifiable.

If Wilder signs him, I’m behind him. If he doesn’t, we can all understand why. As far as I’m concerned, Wilder’s earned the right to sign who he wants.

Totally.... and I really don't think he'll sign him.

Technically jags is on no money at the moment. Or will be when his contract expires.

Spot on! I can’t understand why some people think Jags will want too much money, he’ll be lucky to get close to half his last Everton contract. If he’s not willing to accept £10k a week, I reckon he might as well retire now.

Would be a food move for him. I hope he signs for them. Not needed by Utd.

Celtic would be the perfect place to finish his career. Big club, big crowds, assured a medal or three for himself.

Whereas I don’t see him getting in the team or being particularly useful in a league where we will have the lowest budget, and therefore the least able players individually. It is genuinely the case that not many of ours would get in any other Premier league sides outside of Norwich.
Our main asset to succeed is Wilder...and getting those players to both function as a unit and out run their opponents. At 37 I doubt he will be able to keep up with the demands of training and playing

I know what you mean. It's still the same game, albeit played against opposition with better technical, mental and physical attributes.

In speaking to coaches, the general feel seems to be that the old heads, a la Jags, make up for their sh*t physicals with exceptional mental attributes (think reading the game) and if they are leaders, they could improve those around them. Someone like Jags, having played against quality players such as Man City may also have some interesting insight in how to deal with players like Aguero etc. The downside of course is that he aint going to be doing any overlapping...how much do you sacrifice the way you want to play by having someone with limited mobility.

If it's a free on very reasonable wages, then fine. He seems to have been injured a lot over the latter part of his career.

If...

On a free
Low wages
No guarantees of playing

Then yes...

Will be a great character
Vital prem experience
Leadership qualities

Also...
Don't need a keeper on the bench 😂😂😂

As I've said, on a free as backup I'd be completely fine with.

He'll get his coaching badges and end up replacing Alan Knill when Derby come knocking.

I find it strange to the point that it's almost amusing to see so many people with such certain views as to whether it'd be a good move or not. It'd be a punt, by definition who the fuck knows?

Could be inspired, a former England CB with shitloads of PL experience coming in and giving us assurance at the back.

Could also be an old, way past his best cart horse with nothing to offer.

Fact is, no one knows and those saying 'he's not been good enough to get in Everton's team' need to get their heads out of the clouds. That there pond ain't the one we're fishing in lads.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

We're not robots and I find this attitude of you shouldn't have an opinion because 'in Wilder we trust' a bit tedious.

If you follow football you're bound to have an opinion on a player you've seen play many times. Just because you're not a big fan or think they're past doing a job, doesn't mean you think you know better than Wilder if he's interested.

I've always been a fan of Jags on and off the pitch but I've absolutely no idea if he'd be a good signing at this stage or not.

How many folk on here recall the day we signed Paul McGrath?
How many folk on here recall the days Paul McGrath played for SUFC?
Not saying Jags is prone to alcoholic memory losses or has knees that can barely move, but if he was.

Great post. Have a like!

The fact he can't get in Everton's first XI could be because they've bought better players, or that it because of his age he can only train 3 times a week or maybe he's lost a yard of pace...

I'd trust our scouting dept to know which and to be recommended to Wilder an appropriate course of action.

Those saying he's be great as a coach? What are we know a coaching Academy?

I genuinely had no idea how good Paul McGrath was until his brief cameo for Spackmans United.

The man could barely walk, couldn’t train, didn’t warm up(bar rubbing his hands together), and yet he was absolutely outstanding in every single game for us.

Can Jagielka pass the medical? If so he's good enough (still wouldn't pay excessive wages though).

Neither would Chris Wilder, so no need for any supporter to worry on that score.
