That’s right let’s have him back and give him a nice pension to retire on. Sorry just not for me , let him go to his mate warnock.
Pretty sure money isn’t a priority for Jags. Says everything that he wants to come and I’m sure he could have retired quite happily from football without ever getting off his arse again.

I think he’ll be great, I trust Wilder and Knill’s judgement and I trust Jags to have the integrity to not come to us unless he thought he could do a job.

Not excited about this at all I just don't get it especially after letting cheap cover like cranie leave who could play 90 minutes at half the wage . Heart ruling the head no from me seems a step back .
To think we let Cranie go and are bringing Jags back, makes yer want to weep.

His legs have gone! How can it be a good signing, gonna get a decent wage out of us, if he still had something to offer EFC wouldn’t have let him go..
Letting Cranie go an replacing him with Jags, doesn’t make sense
Hearts ruling heads me thinks..
No, they definitely haven’t. Unless they’ve fallen off since I saw him play about two months ago.

Cranie was a good championship player but doesn’t want to be a squad player so he’s left. There wasn’t really a choice between Jags and Cranie, one wants to play for us, the other wants to seek regular football elsewhere.

I personally think his lack of pace against the more tricky/quick wingers going forward will be difficult to handle at his age, not the player he was 12 years ago that’s a cert. 7 games last season? Might be a free transfer but wages play a big part in terms of a clubs finance also which means we can’t be wasting too much money in our proposed “20m” budget. I thank jags for everything he did..but that’s the past. I know we can get better defenders for a very similar price at the right age so therefore it’s a no. Does that mean I “lack football understanding”? Bit of a thoughtless comment by yourself I must say

Free you mean? ... Cahill?
Would probably want more in wages though I would have thought

Here’s a radical suggestion – it’s entirely possible he is no longer useful to Everton, while at the same time being useful to us next season. Everton’s back-up players are also likely to be better than our back-up players.

Having not played the game to any type of standard, I’ve never really understood the ‘good influence in dressing room’, ‘good experience in dressing room’ argument with players whose star is very much on the wane.
Genuinely- how does this experience tangibly manifest itself in improving others?
If our best EVER manager feels he can do a job on and off the field !
What's the problem he was fit enough to play games for Everton last season .
Hes a natural athlete ! although his star is waining he will do a job for us.
How dare you question ! Our manager ! or do you Know better.

I very much doubt Wilder will be letting his heart rule his head on this one.

What ! are ! You ! on?

I think some are being a bit harsh on Jags for one, and Chris Wilder for two. Do you not think that Phil Jagielka has any integrity at all? Do you seriously think that this multi millionaire would come and play for us at his age, if he thought for a minute that he might be embarrassed, or that his 'legs have gone'?
Do you believe that Chris Wilder would not have done his homework to ensure that he is getting what he needs, and that Jags is still capable of giving it?
Some on here are seriously insulting two ultimate professionals, who both have a degree of love for the club. Give them a chance, see how it pans out. It's not like us fans haven't been 100% wrong before. Even the great Pinchy.

Let's just fucking get it over and done with, eh...

Signing him would indicate a couple of things....

We're struggling to find suitable right footed defenders at the right price.

We're bringing him in as a money saving signing to ensure we can afford our attacking targets.

Why be so cynical?

Maybe it just indicates that Wilder values experience, leadership and feels he can maximise his talents.

Everyone loved Jake Wright a few seasons ago didn't they!

I’d call it pragmatic rather than cynical. Our defence is strong, one of the areas that we least need to strengthen so we should spend most of our cash on the attack and midfield.

Can we put this in the hilarious rumour mill?

It’s a bit meh for me...can’t really see anything to get excited about. But, all being well, this won’t be the last of our defensive signings.
I’m a bit underwhelmed but happy to take a more considered view when the window closes...

I work in communications and can confidently say that they definitely won't be speeding things up. Put it that way.

If those shitty videos really do delay things then I despair....

What do they think we are, exactly? Who are these videos for?

Photo/video. 'Blades have signed X'. Manager/player comments. Done. How difficult can it be?

Paul McGrath, Gordon Cowans and Gary Speed etc etc were all excellent players for Utd and were all a similar age to Jagielka.

The difference is that sports science, strength and conditioning has advanced beyond all recognition since those days and consequently, if players look after themselves, they can expect a longer career than their predecessors. Most footballers are better players as their careers are ending, its just physical fitness that eventually lets them down.

Jagielka has been a dedicated model professional, all his career and I see no reason why he can’t play for a few seasons yet. What’s more, he can pass on valuable personal knowledge of facing next seasons opposition strikers, that can only benefit our preparations.

So whilst Jagielka’s been drinking protein shakes, 22 years ago McGrath was quaffing pints of Guinness as a functioning alcoholic, not training cos of knackered knees, regularly turning in MOM performances and often referred to as one of our best ever defenders?

On that basis, Phil Jagielka surely deserves the benefit of the doubt and for what its worth, I think he will prove to be a great signing 👴🏻 👍🏻

A tweet with 'Blades have signed Jags/Maupay/A N Other. Details to follow', would surely be enough.

Chelsea had to delay announcing Frank Lampard as manager yesterday because Instagram was down. I'm not even joking. It's all about the #engagement these days. These are big signings, the club marketing department will have to make the most of them. They'd sooner make a huge splash online then p*ss off a few fans by delaying the announcement by 24 hours or whatever.

It's pathetic how fucking Twitter and Instagram have effectively replaced clubs' official sites.

I also get the impression that there's a pathetic competitive element with the marketing departments at rival clubs when it comes to these videos. They think they're much more significant than they are.

They think their fanbase is primarily a bunch of giddy social media obsessed children.

It's almost like that handball was everything he did at the club. Nevermind the goal against Leeds, nevermind the goal against Boro, nevermind the clean sheet against Arsenal, nevermind the 254 appearances for the club...

Christ, it's amazing that people think like this.

Quadruple triple like (cubed, then multiplied by 100).*

* There are “quality posters” on here who would kill for that.
