CONFIRMED Oliver McBurnie

I'd advise a little caution, simply because the only noises emanating about McBurnie so far are from sites like this and the occasional press release. Which is not to say that we're not interested in the player, but until it's a clear interest and Wilder shows he's in pursuit of the guy, then patience boys and girls. The three names consistently mentioned so far, and I refer to adding to our attacking threat, have been McBurnie, Maupay, and Callum Robinson. All worthy players I'm sure, and ones that have the capacity to improve. Factors that Wilder and his team will have considered in advance of any offers, and should we get one, if not two, of the mentioned players, CW will have done exceptionally well.

Currently we can't afford or compete for proven Premier quality players. Wages and fees will prove beyond us at the moment, and should we remain in this division next season, then who knows who we'll be bidding for? But right now? Well we all have to trust Wilder's assessment that going for the best players in lower divisions is our best bet at improving our chances of remaining in the Premier division. As I've said elsewhere, of course we need a mix of experience and youth, or at least the type of player that we might wish to gamble on. After a while it becomes a circular discussion, but the one thing that matters is to show some activity and sign players that suit us and are able to strengthen our future ambitions.

Quite right IIYB, but for now, those are exactly the fish I would want to land from the pond for which we presently have a permit...

If it's in the region of 12-14m i'm wondering how many goals McBurnie would have to score in the Prem to be worth more than we paid for him, or at the very least get our money back.

I'd say not much, 8-10 goals perhaps, which is why he'd be such a worthwhile signing. Basically as long as he's not a complete flop his value will only go up imo.

Worse case scenario we would have a top, young championship striker on our hands.
uh huh, Freeman as well, if he has a half decent season will be worth 10m+ next, it’s all riches from here on in!

This is why CW is worth so much to our owners than just onfield success. If he turns Didzy into a viable prem striker he has turned over a very, very tidy profit for the club if that time ever comes

You could argue that if Didsy becomes a PL striker it’s one fewer player we need to sign in the JTW or next season so it’s ‘profitable’ even if we didn’t sell him.

Email from my Swans mate

Wales online is saying that McBurnie link to Blades is intensifying.

Ollie is in Spain with the team training and playing friendlies – I will let you know if they leave him out of any matches.

It’s a pity the Dan James transfer has already happened, as the sense is that Swansea have a little more breathing room financially than they had at the start of the summer. That’s not to say McBurnie won’t be sold, but I would think we’re very unlikely to get him at or below his market value.

I can't decide whether I think they'll work as a pairing.

Maupay and Robinson - yes
McBurnie and Robinson - maybe
Maupay and McBurnie - not sure

They'd all work. All are flexible players with good technical ability. I'd actually say Maupay and Robinson would be the least suitable though.

Hearing now we might have hit an agent snag.... stumbling block over relegation clause.. 🙁

All clubs and players want relegation protection.

Clubs want wages to drop, players want a release clause.

Annoying if so but we shouldn't let that stop us signing him. As long as the clause wouldn't make us a loss on the fee.

That assumes that we've actually put in an offer, which has been accepted, and we have permission to talk to the player?
Are you sure?

Same person who told me the clubs had agreed a fee the other day, he’s usually pretty accurate about these things.. 🤷‍♂️

That's great, didn't realise we were so far on with it.

Maybe he should stay at Swansea and get a get a don't play in the Premier League and earn loads more money clause, along with an agent who won't get a big cut of the signing on fee bonus clause

What even is a relegation clause? if we get relegated tell him he can just piss off somewhere else?
