As others have said, I think Cranie would have been worth keeping around but the others, well, all the best. Shame about Coutts. Quality player for us for a while.

With respect to Cranie, we’re not sure yet if players like Norwood will make the step up, let alone a bloke on the subs bench in the Champo before we say “well let’s give him a contract anyway”

Quite honestly I don’t know what more we could have asked for from a free transfer. Basically he never put a foot wrong for us and played in many of our toughest games down the stretch. I would be a totally happy to give him another year or so worha squad role - though appreciate he might want first team football

'Paul Coutts, Martin Cranie, Conor Washington, Daniel Lafferty and Caolan Lavery will all leave Bramall Lane when their current deals expire this summer.

Leon Clarke, Jake Wright, Ched Evans, Samir Carruthers, Nathan Thomas, Ben Heneghan and Ricky Holmes have all been placed on the transfer list, despite still being under contract.

Meanwhile, Dean Henderson, Kieran Dowell, Scott Hogan, Gary Madine and Marvin Johnson will all return to their parent clubs following the completion of their loan deals.

Right decisions with all of them. Cranie I think will be down to us thinking we can get a better option in for that role – potentially challenging to be first choice over Bash in fact.

The other decisions certainly aren’t a surprise – it’s been clear for a while that Coutts wouldn’t be retained if we went up.

Seriously though, surprised to see him go. As for Coutts I guess that one was kind of inevitable. As I said yesterday the lad deserves to have someone build a team around him. Hopefully he gets a decent club has a good pre-season and gets back to his best

Really sorry to see Cranes and Coutts go but that's not to say I disagree with the decision, Wilder knows best and I assume that means that we'll be signing another right-sided centre half, which I think we expected. Big thank you to all the released lads and hope they find a Club they want.
