Players to sign in the prem and season targets we should be aiming for?

I agree but we need 2 players for every position really and even the backups need to be top Chumpionship standard.

I agree about 2 for each and we almost have that now.

We can ONLY loan 2 prem players from other teams and Hendo (hopefully) will be 1 of those.

Limited cash for purchases is going to be a big problem.

Personally I reckon the Premiership release list for this season may produce a few for these 2nd positions without costing transfer or much in terms of agent fees.

I like Mings - very competitive.

Where would you play him? He plays left side.

It's our right side for me that needs more attention than JOC/Stevens on the left.

We need cover for LCB & LWB...I’d be looking for new starters for RCB and RWB (as much as I love Bash and George). Having said that, Geary made the step up last time we were Prem so who knows!
Give me Reece James in one of those two right-sided slots though - he could do either role so well for us...powerful, young, likes to push forward from back and looks good with the ball at his feet.

Yep, and where's that 'pathway' from the Academy when you need it :(

Yep, I could go with Reece James - BUT, we can only loan 2 players from other Prem clubs and Hendo should be one of those.

Otherwise we have to buy and that's the problem - we can't buy for every position.

This forum is full of a load of players that we all generally agree on, but it simply isn't going to happen.

There may be a couple of purchases, 2 loans max from other prem and possibly a few out of contract players (like Cranie).

We will end up making gambles on a few positions - that may or may not work out.

Going on previous seasons you would expect Wilder to buy mainly star players from the Championship with the odd reliable experienced solid Premier League player. Think he’ll try to buy a Che Adams, Neil Maupay type. If Villa don’t get promoted we could go for Mings. Think we need pace in the squad.but the players will all need the right character to keep the fantastic team spirit.

The target for next season is just staying up. This will all be new for Wilder and so many players, so it will be a learning curve, on the job training. If we stay up Wilder will know the division and then we can set higher targets and be more ambitious.

Indeed - we simply aren't in the same position as someone like Southampton.

There's too much competition where we are.

We simply have to do it another way - the Wilder/Knill/Mitchell way.

You never know how different players will react to the Prem, Monty had some decent games that season for example and we all know what reputation he had. Bash was part of the Blackpool team that made a real go of it in the Prem don't forget and I'd be amazed if he wasn't one of the 1st names on the team sheet for Tufty next season.

James and Hendo would be the two for me...possibly Tammy depending what Villa do and how light Chelsea are up front with the embargo pending.
Either way, I’d only be looking to loan youth from other Prem teams, not older players

Agreed - For me, Monty was at his best for us when playing in the Prem or against superior opposition. Give him someone to man-mark and he was sublime - the job he did on Vieira in the FA Cup semi was as masterclass in nullifying someone.
Other’s who I thought looked better in Prem that year are Morgs, Geary, Gillespie.
I could see Bash making the step up, but can also see him being utilised more in midfield against the better teams or when playing away

Neal Maupay, Che Adams, Oli McBurnie. Would love one of those upfront next year.

Reece James to fight for RCB/RWB.

We WILL need a 'spoiler' in midfield if you ask me. Proper defensive head to take away to Anfield, Etihad, Spurs etc. It could be Basham but with the influx of money I'm sure we can afford a more specialist, technically capable one. In the Champ alone for that role I really like Kieftenbeld at Birmingham & John Obi Mikel at Boro (what a player). Really rate Kalvin Phillips if Leeds don't go up, but he'd be silly money.

Please don't sign Gary Madine. We really ought to be aiming higher, and I hate how we play when he plays. If he wasn't good enough for Cardiff.....

No idea what our budget will be, or what some of these players will cost, but McBurnie was one I immediately thought of.

Agree with Maupay looked excellent vs Leeds id also like to see the lad Woods at Stoke ex Brentford and if Cardiff go down Mendez Lanig

need a CB LB and RB as cover for all three positions IMO

Cardiff spent around £45m in fees. We should be aiming for something simalar IMO

I think people who think we'll be spending £15m+ on players need to reassess their expectations.

I would imagine we will target some of the best youngish Championship players who we might have a fair chance of signing. I would be happy with the likes of Luke Freeman, Callum Robinson, Reece James, Oli McBurnie, James Bowen, Neil Maupay, and Philip Billing. Tyrone Mings would be a great signing but there`s zero chance of that.

Can you name a target man we can go for if not Madine?

Step forward John Lundstram.

Just got a feeling that he's going to step up next season. No nonsense, brick shit house when we need him.

No way. He's not good enough for the level we're at now nevermind the Prem.

Probably but I just think he's got something to prove.

I wouldn't rely on him, definitely buy some players, but I wouldn't bet against it either.

Stay up should be the target 1st season.

Should add a mixture of premier league experience with some top championship talent. We'll be looking at adding quality on the cheap.
Experienced pro's going cheap? I know just the twopro.jpg

I think people who think we'll be spending £15m+ on players need to reassess their expectations.

I can't see us spending more than £10m on a player but then again, I didn't expect us to spend £3-4m on a defender this season either.

Cardiff, a newly promoted club last season spent that kind of money on Sala and a further £10m each on Reid and Murphy, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

Can you name a target man we can go for if not Madine?

McBurnie at Swansea and Meite at Reading are both good in the air, either of those would work in my opinion.

Hogan or Marriott at Derby.

Love the way they get across the front of defenders for crosses( which we are prolific at).

Hogan -Great goal last Saturday.

Marriott goal v us at Derby was beautiful.

We need 4 striker- force. No problem with Madine.
