We have a huge opportunity to start piling on the pressure - just by winning and making them play catch-up.

For me, Leeds United’s fixtures against Brentford and Villa are where it will be won are lost. Leeds could quite easily lose both these. Of course they could quite easily win them both too but they do seem difficult.

We’ve got Hull with nothing to play for and Ipswich who will already be down in the same fixture period.

Concerning Leeds play Ipswich last day while we’re at Stoke. On paper that’s a game they should win and Stoke looks a lot more difficult.

Could do with us having a cushion of 3 points by then with a far better goal difference.

There are no easy games at this time of the season but IF we managed to win at Brum (never seem to) AND Leeds lost or even draw at Preston then we would definitely be in the driving seat with just 5 left ! So difficult in this league. Look at Millwall beating WBA 2-0 today, despite being down at the bottom all season. We have them at home next week, but are they in good form? Is that a freak result? So hard to tell.

We've struggled vs Birmingham and Forest since being back in the Championship, and have failed to beat either of them so far.

I find it hard to call what the 'important' games are for us, because honestly who knows? Every game seems important at this stage.

It's slightly easier to call for Leeds, because I can look at their fixtures more objectively than I can for us.

For them, Wednesday away and Villa seem to be key fixtures, in that right now both are hard to beat and in good form, and one being a Yorkshire derby as well. Every game has the same reward in the end though, 3 points.

For us, all I can say is that I'm more confident about our final 3 games than I am about our next 3.

You could argue we have the slightly harder run-in. Leeds are playing teams with nothing left to play for (assuming Aston Villa have their play-off place secured by then).

Whereas we have back to back home fixtures against teams fighting for something. Firstly, Millwall who will be fighting relegation and Forest who will still hold hopes of making the play-offs. We also failed to beat either of these two sides at home last season and lost away at Forest this season.

It would have been of benefit to us for Wednesday to win today. This would have increased the chances of both Wednesday and Villa having something to play for against Leeds - which are their two most difficult fixtures.

It now becomes a must win for PNE, whilst a great win for Birmingham gives them a little bit of breathing space.

I’d say Wednesday is a harder match than Millwall.
Although this one is a little tricky to predict, Wednesday might be on the beach and Millwall show great battling qualities. Although it’s a Yorkshire derby so I expect SW to give a good account and are well capable of a draw.

Forest is definitely a harder match than Wigan.
Although by the time we play Forest their season might be realistically over.

Brentford is harder match than Hull.
Brentford are poor away but can play some fantastic stuff on their own patch.

Villa is a harder match than Ipswich.
Villa might have nothing to play for and may rest players for that match
But we know Ipswich will be relegated by then.

Stoke is a harder match than Ipswich.
Stoke don’t win many but don’t lose many, so if we need 3 points, it might be really though.

Something else to consider. Earlier in the season, Leeds got 14 points from the 6 teams they have left to play (4W, 2D). We managed only 9 points (2W, 3D, 1L).

We don’t tend to do well away at Birmingham, or at home to Forest & Millwall. Hull away was also our worst performance last season.

I’m aware these aren’t necessarily the best gauges on how we will perform against them now, but worth noting.

i was just thinking the same thing. This little quirk of the fixture list where we both play the same teams back to back could have a knock-on effect.

The results today help us in more ways than one. Birmingham are relieved of a little bit of pressure after their points deduction, meaning there's slightly less at stake for our midweek game, whereas us beating Preston means they will want to bounce back vs Leeds.

Of course you could just as easily say that the two results will give Brum the confidence to beat us, and that Leeds will find it easier to defeat a Preston side who have been deflated by the game today...

Basically what I'm saying is that it's all about that bouncebackability

We don't usually get anything at Preston.
Preston had only lost 1 of their last 14 games at home, yet we beat them.
Getting Madine and O'Connell back in the side makes us even stronger.

Quite possibly but they're lower because they're not good enough to be higher!

Our hardest game in a weird way is Millwall.

Brum are safe, neither Forest nor Hull will make up 5 on Bristol who also have a game in hand so will have nothing addition to play for. Ipswich will be down and Stoke's season will be over.

Leeds on the other hand have both Villa and Wigan with something to play for and a local derby.

Definitely one game at a time but I think a neutral would surmise they have the trickier fixtures.

Again, no cockiness in my post. Very much one game at a time.

I’ll be really surprised if Leeds beat Preston, I’m expecting PNE to win.
Where as I don’t expect us to lose to Birmingham, might be a draw but wouldn’t be a surprise if we win.

Agree with 8 matches to play remaining fixture difficulty was almost identical, 4-4.
We had the harder game against Bristol City compared to Leeds playing Millwall.
And again today we had the harder fixture playing PNE compared to Leeds playing Birmingham.

Also I don’t tend to takes much notice of league position as some teams are bunched together separated by 1 or 2 points.
Also you have anomalies, for example Brentford are great at home, but poor away.
Even Wigan and Rotherham have excellent home records but are terrible away from home.
