the last time we conceded at home was in the 2-1 win v. Derby on Boxing day
[
If the pigs draw their next game they should be safe from the drop.A very strange game, that. Whatever happens from now until May 5th (or beyond) this has been a season to be proud of. Only lost eight in 36 games, today was our fifth successive clean sheet (the last time we conceded at home was in the 2-1 win v. Derby on Boxing day), the last time we were outside the top six was on August 25th (when, after just five games, stats. can be skewed). We've now gone eight unbeaten including games away at Norwich, West Brom, Villa and those dark horses for the playoffs

After a Brief Blobby Bonus, it's a 'mere' nineteen points.

Be nice to see a comparison with the 2002-03 and 2008-09 seasons when we finished 3rd in this division.
Between games 12 and 17 (by calendar) we lost about 7 /8 points on last season, whereas based on comparable fixtures it was about 1 point. I think that's about the time I started it because it did feel that people were getting down a bit unnecessarily given the fixtures. On the basis that, presumably, most of us look at these comparisons as an indication of where in the table we'll end up versus where we ended up last season, I'd argue that the opponent by opponent comparison has proved a better predictor than the date by date comparison.
Aside from the first few matches (which are naturally too small a sample to mean much) the opponent by opponent comparison has consistently shown us 3-10 points better off than we were last season. The date by date comparison has shown a much wider range - from 8 points worse of to 12 points better off than last season.
At around match 17-18, when we'd had a bad patch and people were getting down about it and predicting we'd do no better (perhaps worse) than last season - and the date by date comparison graph was confirming that - the opponent by opponent comparison persisted in saying that we were actually doing better than we thought. Blade67 was suitably chastised for producing a graph which suggested such a thing, when most of us were feeling down about our chances of promotion.
Yet our position today suggests that graph was correct - whether or not we're promoted, we will indeed finish significantly ahead of where we did last season.
Unless we are 7 points clear by then!Leeds' home game against Wednesday on Saturday 13 April could be an interesting one. Can't wait to be criticised for wanting Wednesday to get a result in that one.
Our remaining games are now actually harder than Leeds on a PpG basis. Vital that we win on Tuesday. If we do, I'd be happy with a point at Leeds...
Hmmm.Unless we are 7 points clear by then!
Good point, well made. Make that a 12 point lead.Hmmm.
Because we've never blown a 4 point lead before, have we?!
Load of bollocks.
No individual game is vital.
They're all worth 3 points and all we have to do is pick up one set of 3 points more than Leeds do between now and the end of the season.
Both teams will win some, lose some and draw some.
Doesn't matter what order they come in or who they're against as long as we win one more than them before May 6th.

Not so sure, Pete. blade67 tries to compare this season with last and you say...
So how can we compare how we're doing this season with one ten years ago, let alone 16 years ago? In 2008/09 for example, Doncaster, Blackpool, Coventry and Plymouth Argyle were in our (second tier) division. In the 2002-03 season, we were up against the likes of Wimbledon, Gillingham, Walsall, Bradford City and Grimsby Town. The Championship is a totally different animal now.
Yes.Is that a no then?

We are ahead - we need an 08-09 style run in (21 points from 10 games).
If you offered me a target of 83 points for us to get to guarantee an automatic spot I'd rip your arm off.We need a season like 08-09 where 83 points got automatic...?

I think 87 will probably be needed, if not 88...
