I’m waiting for a train and got thinking (dangerous, I know).

The below is something we couldn’t do prior to “Gaz” joining.

I’m not saying we should revert to this as default because why change a successful formula...

But, CW-AK make a lot of being able to flex within a game and we’ve seen plenty of in-game switches, 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 diamond etc.

Madine’s target-man ability in this shape could allow us to:

A) Play Duffy & Dowell at the same time
B) Have both Fleck & Norwood on the pitch
C) Keep both wing-backs without changing their jobs
D) Keep the “back 3” intact

The down-side could be less effective pressing without two up top, but with effectively a midfield 6 we’d dominate the centre of the park...

Feel free to ruin me on this but I’m just buzzing at the depth of skill-set this squad now brings.

It IS an option. No doubt.

But I can’t see it being deployed anytime soon !

And it is 3:4:2:1 as opposed to our normal 3:4:1:2.

I was thinking something more like this, which as the away side in a Sheffield derby I believe we are obliged to do:

Henderson
Cranie Stearman Egan O'Connell Stevens
Baldock Basham Norwood Fleck Johnson
Madine

as dronnieblade says above: it's 3421

We've been doing it for a while anyway - McG hardly plays at the side of Billy anyway - he constantly drops deep.

It's a good system - would also play it v Leeds in a couple of weeks time.

I'd dispense with the one up front and stick another in midfield. Keep it tight.

You start with a point and make sure you don't lose that point o_O

I could see that bring an option for a deadlocked game where a teams matched us up and their back 3 are comfortable against our front two

Change it to this and try and get Dowell playing A la Brooks and opening up space of course if one of the opposition back 3 comes out you are reliant on your change working better than their negation of it

Or recall Leon and go with Leon Madine & Sharp with Duffy in behind.

Wednesday fans would need complimentary nappies provided with their ticket.

Hope not

What we do without the ball up front will be vital on Monday.

Billy (as was Leon) is way more effective at the high press than Madine. Goldie also presses hard, but tends to press at the ball, rather than the space in front of the man, and so gets bypassed.

Billy has to start.

Sorry to reply late but your phone needs charging

I can see it working although as a back up option. Midfield lighter than we’re used to so could work against teams we wanna press higher and confident we’d win the midfield battle

We've already used it last season, most notably v Leeds away, playing Duffy and Brooks as twin no.10's,with Brooks pushing on in support of Clarke.
Can't see CW going for anything but 2 up top tomorrow though.

Can't disagree with that as it means we have 12 players to their 11:)

I admire that, phone's about to die but does he conserve the battery just in case the family need him? Does he fuck! He's fully committed to the Blades. :D

The last 12% or so got me through Bladespod before it conked

I'd play our best side and our top scorer because that team is good enough to win.

This.

We’re the best team in the division this side of Christmas. We’re 3rd in the league.

There’s no need to worry about them, play our normal game and we beat them. Regardless of their “incredible run” and regardless of their “returning Championship Galacticos.”

Don't under estimate Wilder making changes. I don't think any of us expected a midfield of Bash Fleck and Coutts last season. I might be wrong but it's the only time he did it, taking out when Coutts was out and we had to play Fleck Evans and Lundstram for the 2nd half of the season.
