Injuries

I might have misheard or heard a different interview, but I thought he said O Connell, Egan and Cranie would be alright; didnt mention Baldock.

"Precautionary", quote from the Lord, talking about Egan, "tight calf".
Not worried after Stears effort last night to be fair.

We definitely need them all back for the derby, according to Porktalk HMS Piss the Play offs is full steam a head, beat Brentford and us and everybody above them loses they are right back in the mix.

Also considering "our players individually are Pretty Average" we could be in trouble a week on Monday, without all our "Pretty Average players available".

If they are all back, it's all looking a bit too good to be true.

Which is usually worrying.

No complacency please.

I saw, and spoke with, Egan outside the Hawthorns after the game and he was walking around freely with no indication whatsoever that he was in any discomfort so it's clearly not a bad one.

I'd worry that Freeman's ankle might balloon today, terrible challenge.

Said the same on another thread
Absolutely shocking challenge, a real leg breaker if the connection was 2 or 3 inches higher
Only Freemans ankle bending and giving way stopped a horrendous injury
Might still be an injury that keeps him out for a few weeks, but it could have been much much worse

They showed it at least six times on TV after the game. Made me and Mrs NYB wince and turn away every time. Awful challenge.

Wilders management of his players is superb, and possibly visionary.
Compare the situations with say Flint and Pulis.
Against us he had clearly tweaked something but stayed on. Minutes later he’s properly injured and spending a significant period out.
Wilder has his players telling him immediately of something isn’t quite right no matter how minor. He takes them off and as a result they may miss a game or two but are then back and ready.
Wilder is so far ahead of most other managers on this.

If the 3 are fit, for me Egan and O'Connell start alongside Basham but Baldock back on the bench. Baldock is my favourite United player currently but I think Freeman has performed really well since his recall and looks noticeably fitter so should retain his place (assuming he doesn't suffer any ill effects from the Gibbs challenge referred to above).

Praise for Cranie and Johnson providing solid cover in the last few games - will be unlucky to miss out but I think Bash has to return and if JOC is back then Stevens moves back across to LWB.

Should we be really changing a winning side though?

All should be okay for the derby

Is this ITK or taking Wilder at his word?

I more than half wonder if "JOC and Baldock back training" was kidology. No idea what's happened with JOC, but against Middleborough George had been limping for 5 minutes before he went off. You could see he was trying to come to terms with the fact that he was injured. That and the punching of the ground. It didn't seem to me like anything where he would be ok for the next match.

On top of that last night was a bit of a war zone:

Leg breaking attack on Freeman.
I think Egan took a knock late in the first half. Can't remember the incident, but it wasn't a surprise when he didn't re-appear.
Cranie was involved in that collision near the dugouts. Looked like a clash of heads that led to a dead leg o_O. (Look, I was a long way away, and I forgot my opera glasses.)
Madine was limping badly for the last 5 minutes at least, but the Big Lad still chased back in the left back channel at one point.

I reckon it's a good job they've all got a couple of extra days to try to sort that lot out.

I still don’t know how JOC got injured, we sure he isn’t been rested since the error at Villa?

Yes we should change it IMO, O'Connell is better than Steven's at centre half
Steven's is better at LWB than Johnson
And as well as Cranie has done the last few games Basham has been immense this season
