Still no overseas players

I believe he wanted to play internationally for Northern Ireland.

I think its a major reason the team spirit is so good at the Club. If you have many internationals of different cultures and languages, especially when their grasp of English isn't great, then I would imagine that they'll form groups with fellow speakers of the same or similar language - its human nature. Just look across the city and see how many foreigners they have, and they're by in large not better than their British players!

Saying all that, there are some great bargains out there in Europe, but you have to know your stuff. Norwich have done very well through their manager abroad, who clearly knows the German leagues well. Pukki has obviously done very well and he came on a free from Denmark.

Excellent post

The only back stop we know about down t'Lane is Jimmy Binks.

What I recall about Jimmy Binks is that he squatted behind the stumps with his knees together and his arms wrapped around the outside of them whereas other WKs before and since have legs apart with arms down the middle. Never figured that one out and it still keeps me awake at night.

If you read my post you'll note that it was qualified with "if it is indeed that", so calm down a little. Either way, the outcome is what we have now, policy or not. So it still needs looking at.

I am completely calm. And I know you said "if it is indeed that" .. but you used it to suggest we needed to fix our transfer policy. If it actually didn't exist, there would be no need.

FWIW, I'm all for positive discrimination. And as a white male I'm well aware of my privilege. But while it's something we must always have in mind, I think you're barking up the wrong tree here. Off the top of my head Wilder has fairly recently tried to sign Devante Cole, Britt Assombalonga, Jerome Sinclair and Domingos Quina. All just haven't gone through. The issue with diversity arises when people don't get the opportunities, whether conscious or not (I think, e.g., that the Rooney Rule is very good). It's my strong opinion that Wilder gives everyone the same opportunity, save for our seeming lack of a foreign scouting network meaning we're more reliant on players plying their trade in the UK. And that latter point I'm sure will be fixed.

Fair post and well put accross. However, this foreign scouting network (or lack of it) is a bit of a red herring as I can't imagine the likes of Oldham Athletic having one either.

I'm not clear what I'm supposed to be getting concerned about, is it the absence of a proportionate quota of BME Britons, or our failure to get some not-all-that kid from the second tier of French football so they can mope on the bench for a season? I don't miss the days when we were paying the likes of JP Javary to shag a significant proportion of Sheffield's female population whilst contributing shag-all on the pitch.

Personally I find it worrying and the departure of Leon leaves us with Goldy as our token contribution to diversity.

Not that it should matter, but 'Eh?'

Marvin Johnson
Kean Bryan
Tyler Smith

Plenty of foreign and 'diverse' lads in the development squad too.

Let's not create a problem where there isn't one.

I somehow doubt there's been some type of racial hegemony conspiracy at work behind the scenes where the makeup of our team is concerned.

It's just happened that Wilder and his team identified players who he considered worthy of being part of this great club. There might be a whiff of social construct behind this team building, but it's no more than that. Certainly, what won't be at work is the idea that we should exclude players from other countries.

Taking a leap forward, I can see the addition of players from Europe and beyond, similar to the makeup of Wolves in fact. But that's for the future, for now we're doing far better than most teams in this division, so let's focus on making our current crop of players as good as they're capable of becoming, and not allow fabricated stories about racial makeup cloud the real reason for our success.

Who? You might find someone amongst the cleaning staff too if you dig a bit further.

They've all featured for the first team this year (although Tyler was pre season).

Why would I want to do that?

When in a hole and all that .......

You'll be telling me McCabe's got a black manservant next.

edit - I reckon the last non-British player to be signed from an overseas club (and went on to make a first team appearance) is indeed yer man Parrino in 2011/12.

Warning - that link contains Bad Memories.

When was Calve?

Last non British player signed from overseas to score for us is? Don't know but is there anyone since Nade?

Wasn't there that French dude Calve who scored a screamer against Preston?

Then there was that Scandinavian middy during our relegation season from the Champ? Forget his name. Riise summat? He might not have even scored for us.

Think Erik Tonne scored for us in one of his few outings under Danny Wilson. He then disappeared very quickly.

Danny Wilson ? Did he manage us ? I'd actually wiped that out of memory. Weird

To be honest I don’t give a fuck from where they’re from, but I do feel is strange and limiting that we don’t have any Jonny foreigners.
I think it may be fair to say Wilder doesn’t trust the overseas market.
