CONFIRMED Clarke going

Clarke’s purple patch ended at the end of November 2017 at the roughly the same time as his improved contract started, there was a tail off into January 2018, and then a drop off between then and season’s end. His collapse in scoring was one of the reasons we fell away. I know it’s been discussed before, but the pre season training in a cagoule set off warning bells. A senior pro shouldn’t be doing that. He’s been poor this season if we’re being honest, as if he’s just given up due to McG.

Did you watch yesterday's game?

If we are letting Clarke leave we need a goalscorer to supplement Sharp & McG and fire us to promotion. Madine isn’t that player, and won’t be until he starts regularly scoring or setting goals up for players other than Sharp and McG. Remember McG was brought in a goalscorer to supplement our goalscorers, he basically replaced one.

if Clarke is leaving we absolutely need to bring another forward to the club.

Washington now has 3 full season at Championship level with 13 goals to his name and he's shown nothing other than an ability to run about a lot so far.

I notice Lee Gregory is out of contract in the summer.

I agree about needing to sign someone if Leon is on his way. Maybe we have to offload a player to bring somebody else in. I bet Leon is one of our highest earners after his new contract last season too.

Washington doesn’t do it for me, he’s just another Matt Done type. He can run and that’s about it.

Would take Gregory but can see it being another loan if we do make a signing.

Is this aimed at me? It's just I don't remember suggesting Clarke should leave.

Easy tiger. :) Yes & no. It was partly aimed at your post asking whether you'd seen today's match (and by inference the quality of Madine's play) and also meant as a wider (and unrelated to yourself) comment about our need for a goalscorer. I don't care how good Madine's link up play is, he didn't score, he didn't set either goal up, and we need a goalscorer. And yes, I am biased in my assessment of GM to a certain extent; I hate the cunt.

I wasn't stating that you suggested that LC should leave, but was commenting that if we end up replacing LC with GM, which looks the case (freeing up GM's wages i suspect) then we are making a huge mistake. If LC leaving enables a proven scorer to come in, then excellent. If one isn't brought in then, being 100% reliant on BS & McG for goals, and with CW's apparent favoring of GM in a starting role, we are setting ourselves up to being hostages of fortune again in the run in. Goals get you promoted and GM and CW don't score them, their most recent being the 10th February 2018.

Do we need a goalscorer? Billy is 2nd top scorer in the league, and McGoldrick has already reached double figures too.

I'm sure we'd want one, but cost of championship goalscorers is (probabaly) far beyond our budget.

I don't think we're replacing Clarke with Madine.

I would have thought we would keep Clarke, though the rumour is that we're trying to sell him in order to loan Scott Hogan - not sure how true that is.

Madine's a better option than Clarke now IMO. But if Clarke goes we obviously have to bring someone else in, maybe Hogan.

Washington also hasn't had a proper chance. He's getting occasional 5 minute cameos and people are writing him off. If he came on 5 minutes earlier yesterday he might have won it for us on a counter attack, and opinions on him change completely.

If we do get Hogan though, most our strikeforce won't have scored for about a year! Hogan being the most in form having scored last April...

I would doubt that Wilder would consider selling Clarke unless there is a replacement lined up. We need plenty of options for the run in.

I agree, but I think there is an option lined up, otherwise he wouldn't be entertaining such talk. He's not exactly one for feeding speculation our Chris. He's got summat up his sleeve. He also said, "We are close" regarding further transfer activity. I'm expecting to see one or two more in this week and at least one out.

Agreed. But if CW has two lined up, then I can definately see two leaving

If Clarke goes I'd love to see someone with genuine pace and finishing ability come in, because we lack a player who has both. A young Danny Webber somewhere out there!?

You've got to think if we do not go up that Lee Gregory must be nailed on.

Wilder had him at Halifax.

He's proven at this level.

Very much a hard working player.

Available on free.

He's a Blade so you'd expect him to bust a gut.

Him, Sharp and McGoldrick would be a good start. Despite being 6'2" I'm not sure he's actually a target man though so would we need a Madine or that elusive quick player we all speak of.

I fully expect Madine to be made permanent.

Clarke is making way to balance the books given we have Madine to fund for a bit. Simple as that in my view. Can’t see us replacing Clarke

Hallelujia, he's a believer
Welcome on board brother.
