Hi, he's been linked with us in local media. Bristol City fan in peace.

Loan or permanent? His record looks passable (in terms of goals + assists) this year and obviously excellent last season. Any truth in Clarke to us?

Not sure if there's any truth in it but he'd be a decent signing for most clubs at this level. He's been a bit unlucky this year as Sharp and McG have been on fire so he hasn't really had a decent run in the team and has had a couple of niggling injuries.

He's very much a confidence player. Great when he's on fire but goes through lean spells as well. Think 10 of his goals last year were in a 4/5 game run.

Due to his size he should really be decent target man but he isn't and prefers to play with his face to goal which is why we've bought Madine as our plan B.

if he wants to go let him go

My guess is that Leon will only want to go if Wilder accepts a bid for him, whether that be loan or permanent, but I believe from Wilder's previous conversations on player departures that Wilder talks to the player to see if the player wants to go first. Personally if Leon wants to go I wouldn't blame him; he knows he's behind Billy, McGoldrick and now Madine. He's gonna be limited to scraps, time wise. He doesn't owe us anything, he cost us £130,000 and was in the team of the season last season.

I like Leon but there seems to be a reason why he’s a journeyman. If he needs a new challenge and a change of scenery, let him go.

Scored two at the Sty last year without breaking sweat, for that alone, he should be a club hero.

If he does go, he goes with a round of applause from me, for last season's impressive effort.

....he could've/should've scored 5 that day.

If there prepared to pay a decent fee for him I'd let him go.Under no circumstances would I loan him, in effect strengthening a rival. If I remember rightly, he's contracted next season, so it would be good to get him of the wage bill before then. He's been great for us, so he would go with thanks and fond memories.

Nearer 2 brum than a move 2 Hull. Lies in brum am told.

Can't begin to imagine what fee would be involved.

I certainly wouldn't loan him out, especially to a rival.

I totally ignore trasfermarkt, what a load of guff that is.

On one hand you think 33 years old, looks like a journeyman but he is so much more than that.

He's scored headers, he's hit some sublime finishes, he's comfortable on either foot and he's capable of putting some superb shifts in like at Leeds away and of the most clinical finishing like Hull at home.

He's very much like Billy in that because he is beyond 30 it's easy to see his transfer value as tainted but just like Billy, he has a high value whilever he is capable of scoring goals. Even a small cameo against Derby showed he still has that.

I'd be sad to see him go. He's a great part of the story, of the Blades' recent resergence under Wilder and Knill.

There is just the point that at 33, how many more good moves can he expect to get plus how long can he keep doing it?

Suppose United brought in Gregory. You wouldn't say he'd necessarily be an upgrade but he'll not be 34 for another 4 years. Clarke will 34 already in February. There is only so much longevity, even in unexpected heros like Leon!

He's been great for us and I certainly wouldn't be pushing him out the door.

I'm not happy. I want Leon here. We need good options and we don't have a similar player.

Since he's on a ridiculously long contract I'm happy for him to go for free tbh.

Anyone really see Clarke going to work in South London?

He still lives in the Midlands AFAIK and commutes to Sheffield so I'd expect, if he is going to move on, that it will be within a commutable radius of his home.

Say it with me everyone.

Ched Evans returns in Leon’s place when we don’t sign a replacement.

(Bit of a mouthful...)

Wilders confirmed there has been interest in Clarke - that’s why he was out of the squad.

Suspect he’ll be off - we could do with another addition if he’s off imo.

From the full interview: “We’ve had a few enquiries...we’ll let you know if anything concrete comes up...these decisions happen and I’m not afraid to make them.”

Leon Clarke has been a fantastic player for us, and owes us nothing, before he came he was the player who always scored against us, and when he was at Bury he was at a club that was below the level he should have been at. It was easy to see why Wilder signed him, and although he took time to settle in, especially with a few niggling injuries early on, on his day he was unplayable and he was brilliant to watch during his real purple patch last season.

Slowly but surely it seems like the players that took us up from the pub league are slowly coming to the end of their time here, Wright and Lafferty have both recently departed and it looks like Leon is on his way too, and players who deserve a great deal of credit for what they achieved here, and players who will always rightly be well regarded at rhe club.

Agree with most of this.

For the back half of the promotion season until about January last year he was virtually unplayable and one of the most complete forwards we've had for a long time. Suspect people have possibly forgotten the quality of some of his finishes for us. Certainly Port Vale, MK dons, the goals against Wolves and Hull are goals only him in this squad were capable of and he combined that with tremendous work rate.

Been an excellent signing and one that never gave less than 100% and played through injuries. I'll be sad to see him leave even if the performances haven't quite been as good recently. In fact i'd be disappointed if its not for a fee and without a potential replacement lined up.
