Lundstram

Lundstram is fine when we are are winning the game, trying to see it out, and we don't have to push on. He's not bad at keeping possession cos he plays a mean sideways or backwards ball ;)

However if your looking for him to drive himself forward up the field or pass in a positive fashion, or play with pace or high tempo, then he is a complete liability.

I watched closely on Sunday and even if he was playing to a specific order (doubt it as we were losing after 20 mins and it's his job to create), he was very slow to move the ball on every time be got it. Slows everything right down, and the lad doesn't know how to play with quick tempo. By the time has had instigated yet another round of pointless 10 yard passing between him and the centre backs on Sunday, all of the non league's side had all got back into their default defensive positions. Its something that as a team we do a lot (even without him in the side) and is a reason why we don't successfully come from behind very often. If we go in front were fine as the dynamics of the game changes and we aren't trying to force it.

There were times on Sunday when there were acres of space in front of the lad and it was asking for him to drive up field into the space and look for a forward peeling off his marker or make a run. He chose time and again, to nesh it and to pass the ball to someone else for them to take responsibility. In fact I told my lad 'that lad will get a nose bleed if he found himself 30 yards out from the opposition's goal...' it's the slow tempo and the lack of positivity to his game which is really holding him back and will result in him being moved on. Technically, he's fine.

He's not the worst player in the world, but hand on heart, he ain't good enough. Nothing personal, he gave it a go, and id wish him well when he finally gets moved on, which CW will undoubtedly do sooner rather than later.

Absolute tripe and when he starts running games again for us you no doubtedly be one of those who saw what a good player he (is/was !!) all along. I really do think we are up against it with some people who watch us sometimes.
Is that you Chris?

I'm not clear what Chris and Alan saw in Lundstram to make him a viable signing.

In the "he's one of our own" book, Lundstram was put forward by Alan Knill as being the 2nd best player at the time in L1. Think we may have chased whoever was the No 1 but didn't/couldn't get him so it was Lundstram.

We needed someone as we came out of L1, but we've moved on far quicker than most thought we would. We've gone past Lundstram, as we went past Lenny (now at Millwall) and Holmes (now at Oxford). We might have been better keeping Evans, but as was seen he had a decent value and we've made a profit, whereas I am not sure who would give us our money back for Lundstram - £750K according to some.

Reckon he'll be listed in the summer.

First was Ollie Watkins. From memory think Knilly said Lundstram was second best talent below the Championship, not just in L1.

Don’t think we’ll see the best of Coutts until next season. He’ll play his part but shouldn’t be relied upon for more than 30 minute cameos.

I haven’t seen Lunny have a good game. Mediocre maybe but never good.

They saw a bit of everything and couldn't resist.

Shame he hasn't quite got enough of anything.

And he wasn't even the best midfielder at Oxford.

Unless he can have a few half decent games soon, we'll struggle to get our money back on him. Because he won't have done enough to attract Championship interest and L1 clubs won't spend 700k+.

Agree Ricky - unfortunately his speed of physical movement and thought is just too slow for the Champ. When given more time on the ball in L1 he looked imperious spraying balls all over the pitch but he's just not good enough to be able to do it in the Champ and I don't see having any chance of being able to overtake either Norwood or Coutts in the pecking order for the 'QB' type role at Utd. I expect him to leave over summer and go to a mid-low Champ club.

I expected more drives into the box from Lundstram, he is a bit of a solid unit and could cause chaos once in there.

Give over they played Tuesday afternoon at Wigan, that gives 'um 5 days to the Barnet game and another 6 days to the QPR. Wigan they won at a canter and if Wilder would have played half-a-dozen first teamers against Barnet, they'd have won that at a canter too. There's no way that is a heavy schedule, anyway when a teams winning they want to play every game. Wilder is as culpable as the XI that disgraced the club on Sunday.

Too right, I'm sick of hearing about fatigue and tiredness in footballers, and I'm sick and tired of managers that tinker about with things because they want to rest players, it drive me nuts. They're not overworked, they actually like playing, none of them like being out of the team.
They only suffer from tiredness and fatigue when they're losing games, and that's a mental issue rather than a physical one.
When they're winning games and winning them easily they aren't tired and they're chomping at the bit to play the next game and thrash somebody else

Rather have the best 11 not injured and ready for QPR after playing 4 games in 12 days over Xmas :)

He can pass a bit.

He can also tackle a bit.

He hasn't let us down when he's come on for the last 20 minutes to hold on to a win.

You can't expect champagne football from a young midfielder who hasn't had a decent run. He's no Coutts or Norwood, but he's still a reliable squad player in the Lafferty mould.

If we got shut of him we'd also have to have an official scapegoat referendum.

before his brilliant through ball he gave the ball away 6 out of 7 times he had it, 4 under no pressure and 2 completely out of play.

He looks fit and leaner than he has in the past and his tactical discipline is what's keeping him in the side. We have much better players waiting and ready to go.

Whatever happened to old Eric? Always at the front of any queue too quick to judge was Eric.....I wonder if he's watched Lunny this season?

Still posts but under a different username. I believe at the start of this season he said Lundstram was the worst player in the Premiership, since held his hands up and admitted to being wrong mind you.

Good for Eric, or whichever name he currently uses. Always got time for a man, or woman, who can admit they were wrong.

Change your name before people think I’m this stupid lol

Lundstram is not, never has been, and never will be good enough. It has been one of my biggest bug bears when people have defended him. He has never put in a championship quality performance since we signed him.

Our record with and without him is absolutely astonishing reading, and it is no coincidence!
love this one.

In addition add something to the fucking debate or disagree or tell me which bits aren’t true.

Because him being horrific in possession would’ve had fans calling for his head before half time last year, this year it’s become fashionable to say how good you think he is after scoring a tap in and offering very very little else other than defensive solidarity.

How horrific was that assist last weekend?

Or that cross that Robinson made a mess of against Chelsea. One of many horrifically perfect balls in.

Gerrimdropped.

“Aside from the brilliant pass...” but yeah. United fans who think Lundstram is doing a good job for us and a good player can’t of ever played.

It’s weird how you followed me around the forum under 2 different alias’ then changed yours to something that’s not true and very similar to mine.

Complete weirdo.
Wrong. Had the same name since 2009. Check the date under the Avatar. And Roy is the weirdo.
