OK, the guy set off on the wrong foot in his 1st (I think) interview but Wilder needs to grow up a bit as well and give the same kind of interviews he gives to everyone else, not be particulaurly unhelpful or questioning the questions which he does every time the guy interviews him.

Additionally only the most one eyed Blade can say they weren't the better side in the first half because they were. And if you don't believe that let's shut up saying we were the better side in the first half against them away, Leeds, West Brom etc

Yep, he questioned the guy for suggesting this early on in the interview then said himself a few times later that we were better in the 2nd half.

Notice SUFC have wisely posted a better interview on official site but even then he wants to have a go at his recent critics. Needs media coaching to stop appearing so unnecessarily defensive. It's great that he is a passionate man who speaks his mind but sometimes engaging brain first is desirable as a public spokesman for the club.

Perhaps CW prefers the interviewer not to come over with his take or opinion on the game before he's had his own words on it , probably felt guarded about being led down a blind alley as it were.
Interesting that hes very aware of a lot of our mutterings on here about the early balls into the box at times debate.

Love Chris, but thought it was a poor interview. Banging on about how the opposition have spent millions is too Warnocky in my opinion. Also think people have a right to question some of the points that were raised, early balls into box etc.

I don’t think it at all helped that Wilder gave a one word answer to every interviewer’s standard “your thoughts on today’s performance today Chris” introduction. I listen to his pre and post match interviews and with other interviewers Wilder would tend to offer a few more thoughts to begin with before handing back to the interviewer – there was a bit of an awkward pause after “Outstanding.” when it became clear that this was the entirety of his answer.

Again, there’s nothing in the questions asked today that I thought was unusual – Jonathan Buchan used to ask as many average questions but never seemed to spark that kind of fed-up response from Wilder.

TBF, I don't think it's reasonable to interview a manager immediately after a game when the adrenaline is still pumping. We all know how passionate CW is, he'd just had a ruck with Lampard and that win could define the rest of our season.

I must have one eye then because whilst we weren’t at our best I thought it was a very even first half with them playing the slightly better football but us having the better chances.

Just to add and clear up what somebody said, our goal in the first half didn’t come against the run of play either, that’s complete bollocks. Their goal did.

To be fair we do need to get it into the box early at times. I was at the Leeds Villa game on Sunday (with work) and Leeds look to play it into the box at the first opportunity and it works.
The dogs Wilder had yesterday is obviously in retaliation to Knills interview after the Ipswich game it was obviously aimed at Edwards!

I do think that Mike tends to lead with an opinion about the game and then ask a short open question to prompt the response.
He tends to have a series of them at hand and they tend to come across as too functional and abrupt.
That type of technique can solicit a one word answer, which leaves him panicking and then rushing into the next question. It spirals from there as he loses control of the interview. He should be asking an open question and then letting Knill or Wilder run with it form there. Gidds is very good at that. Staton, Walker and Seth Bennett were too. Jonathan Buchan soon got into that style and (for a Leeds fan) was pretty good at it.

I thought it significant that Knill did the interview after the Ipswich game. You just knew Wilder was miffed with only getting a point at the bottom club and would have bitten at Mike McCarthy's style. As it is, Knill took exception to the question about overplaying and not taking the opportunity to get early crosses into the strikers (a discussion McCarthy had with Keith Edwards during comms).

Think it's just the manner of questioning because Giddings or Biggs (whoever sounds like that bloke off Calendar) asked him the same question re: balls into the box a week ago or so, and Wilder just explained that sometimes we make the wrong decision but stats show our approach is the best we can take, and then they had a laugh after.

Agree completely. Lumping into the box first time every time would be stupid. It’s not overplaying at all it’s intelligent possession, Wilder and Knill are intelligent and we don’t just want to waste possession.

If we had a tiny bit more quality in the team (no offence to the current crop) we’d have racked up an incredible amount of goals scored using this style as when we don’t score or do miss the chance it’s usually down to a poor individual decision or poor finish. The style of football itself is astounding and shouldn’t feel the need to to simply hoof it in
