He’s a relatively inexperienced presenter trying to make his way through the system whereas Giddings, Walker, Shield, Oxley, Staton when he was here have been about years and have earned the respect and developed their own style. Wilder was exactly the same with Buchan at the start, but as Jb gained experience and improved they started to get on. You’ve just got to build relationships that’s all.

Every new RS presenter from outside the area should be sent on a 5 day residential bonding session with Brian the Blade, Mick the Angry Pig, that Smarmy Doncaster Fan and Shouty Rotherham Brian, in order to be educated on the rich, cultural tapestry of their new area.

People making a big deal of nothing. There was one awkward moment in that interview where Wilder seemed to take exception to a an inference that we were second best in the first half. They moved on fairly quickly and the rest of the interview was pretty straight forward.

Wilder has always come across as someone who puts the interviewer in their place. No bullshit, you ask shit then be prepared to get shit answers. When we won promotion and radio sheff leaked the Ched returning news, Wilder told them exactly what he thought of their actions and hownhes been sound with the inrerviwers.

He really doesn’t like him at all every interview with him he gives him hell.

There's definitely an atmosphere when he interviews Wilder Knill got arsy too after the Ipswich game. I guess they don't like there methods questioning ,having said that the radio presenter is only doing his job as a lot of fans have started to question recent form.
Hopefully after today we will be on song again,2nd half was tremendous today.
We beat Sunderland last boxing day then came unstuck against Bolton hopefully the same won't happen against Black burn..we are right in the mix Now

I don't think Chris was unpleasant in anyway and was probably as wound up as me at being told Derby were the better team in the 1st half. They weren't and we had the better chances.

He does seem to take real offence to people talking about early crosses which winds me up so much.

Looks at our best chances (and first goal) today.... early crosses!! I find it so infuriating the number of times we mess about with it out wide and then lose the ball. Wilder seems very resistant to this idea, and appears to take real umbrage and the suggestion that early crosses are to our benefit.

Thought Wilder came across as very prickly during that interview.

Wilder was aware of Alan Knill’s interview after the Ipswich game. The numpty interviewing him (a different one) adopted Idiot Edwards’ theory about ‘early crosses’ as though it were established wisdom. One Knill put him in his place. Wilder was hammering home the point. He called it ‘noise and nonsense’. It is just that and there is no shortage of the same from our less sophisticated fans.

Notice SUFC have wisely posted a better interview on official site but even then he wants to have a go at his recent critics. Needs media coaching to stop appearing so unnecessarily defensive. It's great that he is a passionate man who speaks his mind but sometimes engaging brain first is desirable as a public spokesman for the club.

There’s a huge difference between ‘gerritinbox’ and playing the ball early while the opposition are not set.

He used the phrase, "never saw it coming" to describe the result based on the first half performance. This, around here at any rate, means that something looked extremely unlikely to happen. Given that we'd played well in the first half, admittedly not to our best, but we'd played well and so had Derby. There was very little, bar the goal, to separate us. So, to suggest that we never saw it coming, is to say that we looked incapable of it based on the first half performance - and that, I think, stuck in Wilder's craw from the start of the interview. It would have done me too, for the same reason.

Wilder was definitely frosty with him in response.

He also posted this on Twitter at half-time:

"HT. Sheffield United 1-0 Derby County. How many times have the Blades been the better side only to see the points slip away? It might be the opposite today. Billy Sharp’s 13th of the season against the run of play, but few here care".

It's clear from this that he felt Derby were far the better team in the first half. I think that's harsh. I really felt it was pretty even with United having the most chances. Anyhow...

I have some tips for MM, should he care to read this forum. BTW - I am not an experienced radio presenter.

The guy lacks empathy above all. At least, that's how it comes across. He probably doesn't mean it at all. But the example above is one where he made a poor choice of phrase that got the interview off on the wrong foot. A better opening question would have been...

"Chris, a very closely contested first half, with Blades just edging ahead at the break with a superbly taken goal by Billy Sharp - what was your take on the first half performance?"

Now, look what I just did there. I started the question with his name, (that's personalising it) I gave my view on how I saw the first half, I credited a player for a superb goal, and then I asked the manager for his opinion on the first half.

When I say that MM lacks empathy let me highlight something that he regularly doesn't do. He doesn't give his own opinion. He just throws questions back in response to just about anything.

If I phoned him up and said "Good evening" I'd be half expecting him to turn around and say, "When you say Good Evening, what is it that makes this evening particularly good in your opinion?"

That's his problem. Fans phone up and say something - and he turns it immediately into a question and throws it back at them. "What would you like to see David?" "Why does that matter Brian?" "How would you fix that, Andy?".

It's o.k. asking questions, but you know sometimes, it's good to show a bit of yourself and say what you think as well. Giddings, Staton, and Oxley, all show a bit of themselves and their thoughts and opinions on topics - but this guy doesn't. It's like throwing a ball at a wall - it just comes bouncing straight back at you.

That's why he comes across as low on empathy and it gets folks backs up. It's easy enough for him to change btw - but he should know better if he's doing that line of work professionally. Oh and btw...someone on here has said he's "relatively inexperienced". He's not. He's got sufficient experience in local Radio to know better. Simple as.

Who cares what local radio hacks think? They haven’t a fucking clue about the game. None of them. Knill and Wilder have made that clear in successive interviews.

I actually think he’s good on the phone in’s. His manner means that he often puts the pigs right in their place when they spout nonsense. Eg the pitsmoor pig last night saying they might have to sell Reach to sort out their FFP problems. He then commented “well someone has got to want them first” or words to that effect. Agree about Chris not liking him though I think it’s because he hasn’t really done his homework on the teams and it shows.

I thought it was an uncomfortable interview if I am honest! I don’t think Chris needs to be so defensive I thought they were the better side first half. We were excellent second half but he seems to have a real edge to him at times. I love the guy he’s the best thing that has ever happened to this club but I think he does need to tone it down a little on his interviews.
