Players are at a different stages of their career and abilities and age in every club and are payed accordingly.

So in your business plan you would pay the youngest and least experienced player the most because he has shown possible potential.

I'm out.

Now should I put my apprentice on £ 30/40 K per year because he is good - so far. ?

Will he progress every year though ? can he take the pressure of moving up ?

Never seen a player go past people like him with that poise, balance and awareness. It was obvious to me he would go and prove himself as a top premier league player; it was just a case of his body catching up with his technique. I found it staggering that a large proportion of United fans couldn't see what was underneath their noses. I'm in my thirties and wouldn't be suprised if I never see a home grown attacking player, developed by United, as good as Brooks again. I put on here that we we were selling him at least a year to early to realise his top valuation as a championship player; it hurts to see Howe reechoing this.If we got promoted this season with him in the team we'd be talking mega money for a future transfer. It's a strange penchant of United fans to undervalue our best homegrown talent when that talent has been under their gaze (Maguire, Brooks and DCL being recent examples). It's a lonely furrow extolling the virtues of these players, on here, but I'll keep ploughing it. That money should've set the club up for a few years, and bought them strikers and attacking midfield player that were desperate for now in the summer.
A key part of selling players is selling at the right time, when the maximum valuation can be obtained. It's a balancing act: If you hold on too long, ala Wendy, you end up not extracting the maximum value for ageing players. If you strike too early, you end up giving your top young talent away for relative peanuts. The one saving grace is he's gone to Bournemouth and will doubtless end up at a top club.If he'd have gone straight to a top club, we wouldn't get any add ons.
I'm also not buying the canard that he 'had' to be sold to finance our summer signings either.Wilder's on record that the Brooks money wasn't used for these signings.Unless this is contradicted by someone in officialdom that seems to me to be the only line to take. Last thing, why don't we just have one Brooks super thread instead of a new one every time he scores, etc?

HAHAHA you have no idea , why don't you ask a Bournemouth fan if can handle the pressure , In the mean time Leeds are now 10 points ahead of us , Whos next out of the door ?? JOC ?? TBH we haven't got many Young stars left as we sell em all as soon as someone comes in for em !

We've already turned down offers for JOC

Thankyou for summing this up on your first few lines , some of the idiots on here wouldn't recognize a class player like Brooks if it hit them in the face he was class end of ! You don't sell players like Brooks you build your team around them .
Question - Why hasn't Leon scored so many goals this season ?
Answer - Cus Brooks is no longer playing for us , if your in any doubt about this watch the 2-4 Derby !

Wilson, Brooks and King
One was ours and the other two could have been for threpence ha'penny

I agree we would have benefited greatly by keeping him another year IF possible. Obviously in winning a few more games, and his price would have been higher when he left. Saying yesterday about the positions he got into (two against L***s) for Duffs to make his killer pass.
Doing ok now, proof in the pudding.

You just sound like mardy kids ,Brooks couldn't get out the club fast enough after he changed agent
You and others on this thread who are upset because he's not playing for us anymore must be fucking gutted when santa doesn't eat the mince pie you leave out for him Xmas eve or when the tooth fairy forgets to leave a shiny coin under your pillow

Santa , tooth fairy , that's a great come back , that's me finish with this thread , I love watching Brooks and was happy to pay to watch a player of his ability, it was great to know you had a player like him in your team that could turn the game in one flash of brilliance . Happy Christmas everyone x x .

So did I but he's gone and do you know why ?
Because he wanted out and we have a hole in the finances to the tune of 5-8 million pounds a year

Grow up ,not surprising to see you flounce off given your naive view of the world

Yeah right

The fee for Callum Wilson was well within our capability whilst he was at bankrupt, homeless Coventry City.
He eventually went to Championship side Bournemouth because there wasn't any other interest in him

Josh Kings first move was for £900,000
A bit more than threpence ha'penny admittedly and it would have taken a bit of ambition from little old us......lol
But the massively ambitious Bournemouth eventually got them both and the rest is history

Callum Wilson moved for nearer 600,000

He was being talked about on this forum for 12 months before he eventually left Coventry

Prove he moved for 3 million
Ner ner ner ner ner

It was 600,000 according to a few transfer activity websites,
But of course they can't be relied on

If he'd been a 3 million pound player Bournemouth wouldn't have got him at the time

We have to sell them as we haven’t got enough cash to survive without selling them. It’s not that difficult a concept to understand. I’m sure McCabe would love to see a team of Maguire, Walker, Calvert-Lewin, Lowton, Naughton and Brooks. Didn’t happen though because we were offered cash for them and they wanted to leave as a result.

100% Correct .

I’m sorry but on this occasion you could argue over the fee, but he was off no matter what. We could have held onto a player who didn’t want to stay of course for all the good that would have done. I don’t remember uproar at this level at the time of his transfer.

Also, outside of Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Spurs who can hold onto their top players when big bucks come knocking? Certainly not us.

The only idiot is someone that constantly defends our transfer policy with the usual bullshit "He wanted to go"

There would be no transfer window in place if clubs had to sell as soon as a player "wanted to go"

The clubs transfer policy is FUCKING ATROCIOUS, EMBARRASSING, SMALL TIME, FULL OF LIES AND DECEPTION AND FUCKING WANK

AND IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN

That's the reason why we've been outperformed over the last 50 years by EVERY SINGLE MODERATELY SIZED CLUB IN THE COUNTRY

And many much smaller ones as well
The transfer policy is FUCKING shit and that's the end of it, and deep down you know it is

I just don't think you understand the way modern football works ,if there is a hole of 8 million pounds a season and you can plug that by selling players then what would you do ?

We tried to buy him with the influx of cash when the Prince arrived in August 2013. The bid was turned down and we were told he wasn’t for sale.

No. He didn’t even want to get promoted from L1. More than one poster on here said so.

Yeh you’re right our transfer policy isn’t the best but you have to remember one subtle difference?. We have to sell players to provide funds?. We’re not Man City or Liverpool etc who can go and spend £80 million on one player!!.
As the familiar blades song says we ain’t got a barrel of money. FACT.
Brooks changed his agent to facilitate a move away. FACT.
He clearly didn’t think too much about the contract he’d signed.
Good luck to the lad. We move on. UTB
