One change I wouldn’t mind is stearman in and pushing basham in midfield to look after Dack.

One change I would mind would be Clarke. Obviously something isn’t right and he’s not an asset till he sorts it

How are we (and by 'we' I mean Wilder) supposed to know if he's sorted it if he doesn't play?

Oli Norwood doesn’t get a break, he’ll no doubt have 2 games with Northern Ireland. To a lesser extent, the same can be said of Enda and Egan

True, he doesn't get a break - but is absolutely vital to how we now play.

Although Norwood sets the tempo, he doesn't bust a gut all of the time, but he is now the only player we can't do without. Similar to Coutts ,and there is no guarantee he will be game fit for a number of weeks as replacement/change.

We have temp replacements for Egan and Stevens - Norwood is just un-dropable - we 'll just have to manage until Coutts does get back fit and ready.

Sadly, we now have the same worries we had last season with Coutts - Norwood is absolutely vital to how we win games of football.

The third goal v Millwall was all started with a quick transition from Norwood to Billy to Duffy - and it's in the net.

We quite simply can't do without Norwood and both the games in the October international weekend are UEFA Nations League games, which means he'll probably play both.

I'm sure players used to play 2 games a week without a problem....
They did this in days gone by and smoked / drank etc. Now they are supposed to be finely tuned athletes.
They are, the trouble is that the opposition are all finely tuned athletes too.

A football result is a relative measure. You just have to be better than the opposition. Whoever is the freshest has the advantage.

I’m happy to defer to Wilder’s expertise here. Particularly given how our performance fell away in the final parts of last season.

Agree totally here - where I would contest squad changes too much is before Xmas - we have 3 x 2 week international breaks where most players don't play.

We should make best use of those breaks.

Norwood is the biggest problem - we need to wrap him in cotton wool.

Just listened to Wilder's interview. I love how Jake Cooper's grown another inch since Wilder said he was 6.5/6.6 on Saturday! He's 6.7ft now, according to Tufty! On Millwall website he's 193cm which makes him 6.3ft! :D

Stearman for Egan (head injury)
Clarke for McG (McG to come on around 70 if needed)
Baldock for Freeman (Wingbacks get knackered quicker, and Stevens is withdrawn more than Freeman, despite both having high levels of performance)

Leave it at that if you have to make changes at all.

It could all be bollocks of course, bit of mindgames to keep the opposition guessing.

Think he'll have learned from the Brum game and keep it minimal.

It's true. He is 6'7" in Sunny Sheff, but only 6'3 in that London. It's to do with the curvature of the Earth's surface. Millwall is darn sarf and hence a long way away.

It encompasses, geoplanetary tectonics, astrophysics and philately and is far too complicated for me to explain to the numpties on here.

Deano scored the winner didn’t he, in front of the open end and the assembled masses of Blades

Some of us were in the stand to the left of the Blades with a little wall separating us from the home fans. Michael Le Vell could be seen in their section and was obviously questioned about shagging Sally. (No one knew then half of fucking Weatherfield would have a go on her)

Has anyone considered that Wilder may intend to name an unchanged side, but would rather Mowbray not know this, and so hints that he may shuffle the pack, to keep the opposition guessing?

We know he can be crafty in this manner, where in the past he's refused to answer questions about players fitness close to the game in order to not disclose his team.

As it happens I think he will make changes, but only 1 or 2.

Blackburn will attack us so they are suited to our style of play whereas Mr Geese is likely to set a more defensive line up on Saturday. Mowbray has already identified the midfield three and front two as our biggest threats so no need to change them. If theres got to be change then let it be the wing backs and possibly Stearman for Egan if injured. Otherwise keep the momentum going.

Blackburn the harder game. Pick the XI which started in the last game.

Don’t try and be too clever for your own good, Chris.

Most needed is to rest one first choice fullback.

Next game, rest the other fullback.

Assess the forwards before Hull. McGoldrick’s ability to drop deep suits an away team more as well so don’t bugger about with him and Sharp.

Consider early midfield subs in both games if going well.

Some must be rested from the Brum game.

Talk about getting too precious!

Excellent points, as ever.

Mowbray knows his stuff but even so, can he stop us?

“The Rovers boss highlighted the Blades’ technical ability in the middle of the pitch, and their three at the back system, as possible threats.

But Mowbray is confident Rovers’ strong home form could push them towards the three points.

“I expect their centre halves to be over lapping their wing backs,” Mowbray said of the visitors.

“You must prepare for it, but sometimes a team’s biggest strengths can be their biggest weaknesses.

“If you’ve got a centre half who’s overlapping his wing back and you lose the ball, then you’re potentially light at the back especially if you play two strikers because then it’s two v two.

“It’s all about your positional play out on the pitch, that’s what football has been and always will be about, hard work allayed to that.

“You must set traps and plans. You have to have an idea that if the ball breaks down here, where you’re going very quickly with it and what’s your intention.

“They will have counter plans and know what to do if they lose the ball. Their players are usually in different positions to teams who play three or four at the back.

“This is just a slightly different way of doing it and credit to them, they have found a way which helps them win football matches. They have an identity and a way of playing.”

The Blades narrowly missed out on a play-off spot last season in their first year back in the Championship and are among the early pacesetters this season.

And Mowbray added: “I’ll expect really technical players like (Oliver) Norwood, (John) Fleck and (Mark) Duffy to be picking passes and asking questions of us. (David) McGoldrick dropping off the front, he’s talented and has scored a lot of goals since he’s joined from Ipswich, Billy Sharp, you know what he does, he scores goals.

“So I’m expecting a tough night and a tough examination of them but we take confidence and positive in to the game”

They did. People also thought the world was flat and put asbestos into houses.

Footballers also used to finish their careers before 30...

Footballers used to drink, smoke and eat pie and chips.

Mowbray is a worried man - very honest assessment, but he's got his excuses in early.

Argument from Wilder: Norwood, Duffy, Coutts are vital to the way we play, so we need to rest them throughout the season so they don't fade.

Response from S24su: Norwood, Duffy, Coutts are vital to the way we play, so play them every game then blame the players/Wilder/McCabe when we inevitability fade.

I'd put money on Leon starting on Saturday. Hull at home was his finest hour last season

I wouldn't put money on it. I don't think CW's team selections are based on the current form and fitness of our players and what tactics are best suited to the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition. I doubt he's thinking "Leon played a blinder against Hull last season, let's throw him in and see if he can do it again".

Maybe Egan out for Stearman and perhaps Washington for Billy (swapping at 60). You never know Coutts could make an appearance !

I wouldn’t have thought we’d need to make wholesale changes to save legs this early in the season. I’m sure we didn’t need to last season, but did need to at the midway stage. I think Birmingham was as much an experiment in squad depth rather than saving legs. With the ideal scenario being that you can make 5 changes and the team style isn’t that disrupted.

God, stop being such a Wet Flannel

If we lose tomorrow and beat Hull it's not the end of the world.....

Needs to shuffle the team a bit tomorrow. Lundstram, Clarke and Washington anyone?

Think Lundstrum and Washington are good workers but seem to lack the highest quality.

Leon is the big conundrum, at his best he’s a match winner, at his worse he’s just a battering ram. Leon is so inconsistent and unpredictable. We could play him against Blackburn and he could end up being our best performer.
It’s a role of the dice when Leon plays, at the moment he’s not scoring but that could easily change.
