Fair play to Wilder. Can’t imagine it’s easy when you’ve been publicly chasing a certain calibre of player all summer to admit defeat and look for an option which will probably still work out well but will not go down well with fans.
Exactly this.

We've been talking all summer about signing a 'proven championship striker' and that we 'only want to improve on what we have' and we go for... Conor Washington.

Yep, it’s true. But do you really doubt that we haven’t tried very hard to get our top targets? It doesn’t always work out. I’m glad Wilder is man enough to take it on the chin and still sign a decent player, in the knowledge that fans such as yourself will have a dig and a moan.
Anyone over Lavery in fairness, I've decided that now.

Still very underwhelming. I'd even prefer Jerome.

It’s almost as if you don’t think before you speak...

Deep breaths. You can get through this.

If we're going to be picky about what we each said, then I'd point out that you originally said that he's the same as Lavery, but with less hair and now you're saying he's "obviously better"

My point wasn't that he will improve his goal record, if you read it either: I intimated the possibility that he could potentially "blossom" - that could mean score more goals, it could just make a positive impact on the team.

What did Wilder say exactly? (Not a trick question; I'm just not sure what you're reffering to)
I was being sarcastic, I think everyone knows my views on Lavery by now. We could sign Theresa May and I'd rather have her on the bench.

And fair enough. At the end of the day he'll get a chance of course to prove himself for us, but I can't say I'm expecting much. We'll see I suppose, can't pretend I'm not underwhelmed.

And that we only wanted players who would improve us, we were only looking for proven championship strikers etc etc

He’ll be a decent signing. Wilder will get him back on track and give him some game time and everyone writing him off will be eating their words.

£3m player for free = cracking business. Would rather us do this kind of deal than play Hogan 35k per week or whatever obseen amount it was.

Decent you say, well I suppose that's still up for debate and will be proven on the grass.

Oh I thought a lot and was just terribly disappointed that we've left ourselves in this position on deadline day where anybody is better than nobody.

I don't think he's a bad player at all but how funny is it that we end up scraping the barrel like this on deadline day when we've been aiming so high all summer....

In a nutshell, exactly my feelings.

Scraping the barrel and then some. Nemind eh.

Oh I don't check Wiki when I'm comparing players I use whoscored - gives you a breakdown of a players actual play. I admit players can do a lot of off the ball work that isn't noted, and Washington does. He works hard and runs the channels. But he just doesn't score goals at Championship level - that's the top and bottom of it - we already have Lavery for that.

When I've seen him before I've thought he's not actually a bad player, especially for Peterborough - but he just doesn't score goals at this level.

I just can't pretend I think it's a good signing or get excited about it when we've been linked with much better names all summer and consistently said we're only after players who improve us - and ended up with QPR's 5th choice. Had we signed him earlier in the window I probably wouldn't be as disappointed.

Thing is no one has scored goals for qpr the last 2 seasons, they have been a very poor side, most goals by anyone for them in the last 2 seasons was 11 by smith, they havent even reached 100 goals in the last 2 seasons combined, lets see what he does in a good side, been fed by the likes of duffy, norwood and fleck

I think it’s quite obvious to those who’ve seen him play that he’s a decent player. But as you say, he’ll get an opportunity to prove himself on the field, as every signing should.

For what it’s worth, I think all of us are a bit disappointed we haven’t brought in a ‘top’ striker. But as I said, it doesn’t always work out... and I’m absolutely confident that our manager isn’t to blame for that.

Sky Sports saying Washington's contract has been terminated, so he'll come on a free. Let's not forget that QPR paid £3m for him just a couple of years ago.

If this is right i still think we will see another forward today, and possibly johnson aswell, washington will look pretty shrewd if that is the case, no one better out there on a freebie

Ill put it out there, with our midfield even stevie wonder could score, sure there will be enough balls flying into the box for Washingtony to score a hat full.

I see your point but if that's the case we could sign absolutely anyone and say 'well lets see what they do infront of these 3'

He won’t play , another bench warmer to slightly urge billy and Leon on .... is this the best we can do really... we have needed someone better than what we have at present and we have failed big time ...

Here you go. Free transfer. I'll take that!

Edit:. Looks a beast in that picture. Take it he's quite a strong forward?

Physically he's good. He's athletic, strong and quick.
It's his level of play at Championship level which is bringing the disappointment I think.

I agree with Eric Cartman . I’ve never really seen much of Connor Washington but I’ve already decided he is a shit cunt, so I’m going to find some stats that are carefully selected to back up the assessment that he is a shit cunt.

I’m also going to boo his every touch, gleefully tell everyone I told you so when he misses a chance, and I would rather United get relegated than him be a success just so I can bask in the glow of being right in having written off one our players as being shit on the internet before he has even kicked a ball.

Always looked decent for Posh...remember him scoring a couple of times against us.
His record for QPR isn't good, but I think he could be decent for us.

Won't break the bank, will work his bollocks off and hopefully will do better with the chances we create as opposed to how he got on at QPR. Much happier with this as opposed to Hogan who is a good player but hideously overpriced.

You'll not be booing his first touch I'm afraid boss - it's one of the best aspects of his game. Maybe his second and third.

What stops a club terminating a contract at any time so a player can move? Looks like a bit of a loop hole to me.

Hope he works out as well as Fleck and Duffy, with the wilder magic.

What is key is what is his finishing ratio from chances not games played, as we have been very wasteful since Chistmas.

if it is Washington then we judge him on pitch & trust wilder, there is alot of rumours but things we know for certain is that we are desperate need a striker for depth as if 1 of the 3 we have get suspended or injured we are screwed & if I remember correctly we are getting a guy that cost QPR around 4m about 2 years ago for absoultely nothing.

to use a phrase that harry redknapp hated could be potentially brilliant wheeler dealing. as he using his lower league expierence with a bigger budget, where like L2 team lose their best players every yr & they have replace them creativity
