Palmeiras had a stripe on the sleeve?
They did.

Basically Adidas (and others) have a catalogue of templates... collars, sleeves, fronts, backs, shoulders, sides, trims etc.

They will just drag and drop and change colour.

With the exception of the stripe on the palmeiras sleeves, everything is identical... front panel, collar, cuffs. We obviously just wanted alternate colours between the pinstripes.

Never got this template shirt thing.

It’s a red & white striped shirt and I don’t think they’ve produced one for another club that’s absolutely identical apart from the colours and badge.

There’s many clubs with red & white stripes, producing another clubs shirt with red & white stripes doesn’t make ours or theirs a template.

Just a buzz term nothing more, template kits have been present since the dawn of kit sponsorship but for some reason people seem to get irate about it.

This years kit is utterly appalling, looks nothing like what a Blades shirt should.

I hope we tell Adidas to go and do one, it should be us telling any prospective kit supplier what we want our shirts to be not the other way.

Poor show all round.

Correct.

My first real season I remember was the premier league start. I had a wall chart with all the kits on.

Us, Man U and Villa all had lace up collar.

Then these all had same template from umbro..

In addition to these two monstrosities...

Us and Forest had the same white away shirt. the late 70s Umbro shirts were all identical, big collar little diamond and Umbro logo taping all down the sleeve.

If you're United and Adidas designing this season's shirt, what do you think was said?

There are a few things that we like, at least 3 red stripes on the front, red stripe in the middle, they did that.

Collar is nice.

The arms are a riff on last season's arms, a kit which was really popular so they thought "we can't do the same thing, so let's change black to white".

Their one thing that isn't our choice is the plain back this season, which only a few people prefer (as a visual aid) and you can't blame the shite sponsor application on Adidas.

I don't think that undoes any of the good work they've done in past seasons, even if the anniversary kit wasn't popular it was to spec and well made.

Unless a major manufacturer comes to us and says "we want to make you unique high quality kits because we like you" I don't think we could do much better than Adidas to be honest, they're templates, but they usually have the nicest templates.

Have you seen Atlético Madrid's shirt this season?

Just had a look. That is grim.

Nike have this fixation with making everything look like it's slightly out of tune and putting lines and noise on everything.

I’m pretty sure we initially signed a four-year deal with adidas. If so, this seasons kits must have formed part of a new deal with them. Very strange we didn’t announce that.

Regarding this years kits. Biggest irritation about the home kit is that, from the back, not a single bit of red is visible. Norwood must think he still plays for Fulham when we attack.

Away needs a splash of red. That’s all. It’s a shame it’s a readily available “team kit”, but it fits in with us being intent on revisiting the fluorescent colourway every few years. As a shirt it’s pretty nice. And it is the ‘correct’ colour, if we are basing it on the OG version. I noticed they wore matching shorts yesterday. Would have loved to have seen us wear red shorts instead...

How difficult can it be to get right? Year One: Traditional red and white stripes, no black; Year 2: Red and White stripes with some black; Year 3 Thicker red and white stripes. Repeat and rinse. Basically all the kits that score highly on kit nostalgia threads fall into one of these three basic concepts.

Then for a bonus, the club agrees a sponsorship that doesn't involve a logo in clashing colours that takes up a quarter of the shirt front.

Just a hint: If someone were to produce a long-sleeved version of that shirt, it would have fifty of my English pounds heading its way....

it just a football kit
Buy a nice la coste polo shirt and try not to worry about it

My top five preferred kit makers:-

1. Adidas
2. Puma
3. Nike
4. Umbro
5. Under Armour

After that I couldn’t choose between the rest.

The reason it slipped under the radar is because every little detail about new kits is always guarded as if it's in the interests of national security, to set up the ever so exciting 'big reveal'.

Can't be putting all that effort into the utterly shit promotional campaign only to have design details emerge early now can we...
I preferred it when they had 4 suggestions and you voted.

You know, getting the opinion of the customers that would buy it.

All seems a bit marketing 101 really. That way they would only masd produce 3 shirts nobody wanted instead of thousands!

I got the Sporting Lisbon away shirt from our recent trip to Portugal it’s Macron but a million miles from when we had them in terms of quality.

That’s a belter.

A lot of fans slagged Macron off - not me. I’ve got a few Macron tops - Mallorca x2, Betis and the United stuff. The Real Betis one (green and white stripes) is one of my favourites. The fit is unreal. Id actually take it as a United away shirt if I’m honest. Macron are big time in Italy. Adidas and Nike obviously monopolize it all but Macron are as good as next in line. And their training gear is spot on too.

Get the stripes back on the BACK just put a number on a white box on the back with the rest of the back of the shirt carrying the all important stripes FFS It’s not rocket science. Stop messing with our heritage and get the stripes back or get lost....simple
