Adidas kit deal

New Balance for me. Fed up of the Club being treated like a second class citizen by Adidas with their template kits. Stripes front, back and on sleeves, no brainer. We are Sheffield United, the original United and that should mean an original kit design. The Club also need to give someone else the job of agreeing kits after the monstrosity of a Home Shirt slipped under the radar this season.

The reason it slipped under the radar is because every little detail about new kits is always guarded as if it's in the interests of national security, to set up the ever so exciting 'big reveal'.

Can't be putting all that effort into the utterly shit promotional campaign only to have design details emerge early now can we...

This. Umbro are probably the best for "stripes" teams, keeping it simple and classy. Plus we have history with them. Although I wouldn't appreciate them changing the shade of our red as they did with Blackburn's blue this season...

IMO that would have been a fantastic shirt and I voted for it. It looked really classy, much better than the one we ended up with.

It think it lost because of the different shade of red. That shouldn’t have made any difference. Look at Wednesday, they’ve got their stadium painted in about six or seven different shades of blue and they don’t give a fook.

Don't forget shades of rust.

I’m pretty sure the original deal ran out after last year, so the fact that we’ve continued with Adidas this year show some that we’re already into a new deal and won’t be changing any time soon.

Which club had the same template as us last season?

Only one was Bayern Munich believe it or not. And even they had a different collar.

Better the vote way, in my book. Then at least people get a say. It's kind of like Brexit - you can fuck it up, but at least you were listened to.

As for the logistics of policing the vote and avoiding the pork, there must be a way to do it.

Suppose you could say that about any football shirt but IMO some look okay as casual wear if on holiday or whatever. Not striped shirts though, generally they look crap.

At the time though, I thought that one looked class, and I would have bought it (having only bought four in my adult life and never worn unless attending the match)

I think most people just don't like it as much as last seasons and then some absolutely despise it.

Anyway we didn't get to vote on last season's or the promotion season's and there was as much if not more positivity about those two than negativity about this one.

If we keep Adidas I don't think they've cocked it up anywhere near enough not to be trusted for future kits.

Not everyone is going to be happy whatever happens. Maybe just have a word and say "stripes on the back thanks"

Brexit is not something to look at for inspiration haha.. maybe we can have a bus done up, £300 million to the transfer kitty if you vote for this kit which we can then claim we never said.

Is it one big fat stripe?

As for cheaper to have a plain back, doubt it generally but in our case, perhaps, because the front of the kit is made out of posh Adidas climaknit or whatever it's called, whereas the back is just standard football shirt material, if we had that striped material on the back, maybe the price would have been higher.

Why does everyone care so much about the shirts? I don’t think I’ve bought a shirt since I was a kid. I sometimes buy them when they’re reduced at the end of the season, to play 5aside in, or might sometimes get the kids one, but even they’re not bothered.

It's not. People keep saying this but it's false.

Adidas have decided to give all clubs striped backs this season.

The only competitions stripes aren't permitted on the back are Europa and Champions League's

Adidas have burned all the goodwill generated by the decent kits of the previous two seasons with this year's abortion.

But ultimately someone in authority at SUFC must have signed off on it? Not a biggie in the overall scheme of things but gormless nonetheless.

Ignoring Wednesday I don't see why some don't like Puma....look at Palaces away kit...quality...substitute black for blue and we'd have a great away kit

Yes but that's not pumas doing. That is a Palace away shirt, they've had that shirt on multiple occasions.

Never got this template shirt thing.

It’s a red & white striped shirt and I don’t think they’ve produced one for another club that’s absolutely identical apart from the colours and badge.

There’s many clubs with red & white stripes, producing another clubs shirt with red & white stripes doesn’t make ours or theirs a template.

My apologies, was looking at 2018/19 Sunderland shirts on google and the only one I saw the back of was striped. Looked closer and that version was rejected.
But as for Adidas the plain backs will be cheaper for them as each plain colour can be held in stock and won't need a special run.
