Bigger, smaller, huge, massive, potential ... all of these are vague subjective words, based on feelings and the statistics that are important to you.

Manure are undoubtedly a big, huge, massive club with whom I would never wish to be associated. Foreign manager, foreign mercenaries and completely impersonal global rather than local support.

A big (in value) club to me is one that relates to its community, and where players at least come to relate to the area and a local fanbase.

Once you have that, then the size of the fanbase and recent successes would add to my perceived value.

Liverpool would probably be the biggest “club” in England by my definition.

I am very happy, being an adopted Blade for 47 years from age 18. Roller coasters have highs and lows and without lows there are no highs.

The end of 16/17 season was probably more enjoyable to me than most Chelsea fans. who won the Prem.

Going one step further under Tufty would eclipse the lot, because I feel more of a belonging to my club now than at any other time in that 47 years.

And in relation to this thread, for me Gallagher and Waghorn up front would be fantastic!

Magic Days

I remember watching a program about Southampton when they're in Division 1 and they were talking about their Academy and how they were going to use it to bolster and fund their first team.. They had a long term plan to get where they are and it paid off. I realise they were lucky in their crop, but they're a club we should be looking to copy in terms of building success.

No. It really isn't more interesting at all. It's frustrating because people, including me, click on the link for an update and find the subject matter has changed and is being discussed by a minority. A subject matter that is a nonsense at that.

Start a new thread.

First World Problems.

One of the things I enjoy most about our forum is it’s ability to move deftly from the prescribed topic into something entirely different. Imagination, creativity and even surrealism just adds to the mix.

I still say we need a separate “England Wank” section, though.

*add*

You’re welcome.

The Waghorn bid is to buy Waghorn. Tufty has been consistent from minute one that he wants two strikers. Two different types of striker. The two primary targets were Gallagher and Hogan. The latter has proved impossible so Tufty has switched to Waghorn. They aren’t mutually exclusive and Waghorn isn’t an alternative to Gallagher.

Do you have a list of all the options? Who's the alternative for Gallagher?

Fair do's Booker but as i said, start a new thread. It gets frustrating when you click on a thread that is about a potential incoming striker for an update only to find the subject matter has been changed.

Not having a personal dig mate as you are an interesting and regular poster.

No worries mate, and thanks for kind words. I know what you mean regarding the posts changing tack. I can't see Gallagher coming if Waghorn is signed and I'd be surprised if we don't offer a contract to McGoldrick either.

None that I know of mate. Publicly at least, he’s been the only one linked who plays that role, hasn’t he?

True. We seem to be linked with a wide range of strikers, if you believe all the rumours. There isn't many mobile target men about like Gallagher.

And that's why he's expensive...to buy or to loan and to pay.

Alan Prixon says "a bit half-hearted with the Gallagher thing at this stage" in relation to Stoke's interest.

So that gives us some encouragement.

Whether or not Stoke are interested doesn't change the fact that his wages are too high for us.

The lad Wyke at Bradford maybe? Just a thought. Not recommending him - hardly ever seen him play.

No, but it could remove possibly the only club willing to pay a £7m fee and open up a loan possibility for us.

Derby's advances seem a bit half hearted too for Waghorn since it sounds like they haven't even bid yet, but that's not stopped most of us being resigned to losing him.any news on the Liverpool youngster we were after on loan anyone? Really liked the look of him and while Holmes looked better last night I still don't trust him to grab many games by the scruff of the neck at this level.

Holmes was better last night but he was more like a headless chicken, and literally wings it

Saints fans don't seem to be too impressed with Shane Long at the moment...would he be worth a go? Wages too much?

Are we really so desperate that folk are flinging any old has been / never was / couldn't score in a brothel type player into the hat FFS?
We don't need or want that type of player, we have had far too many of them in the past & the memories are not good.

You saw a different game. He made purposeful, incisive runs. He was creative and linked well, both right and left. His introduction was the catalyst for one of our best spells when we got right on the front foot.

I suspect you’re thinking of Montgomery, Kozluk or Quinn?

Give your neck a rest numb nuts

For me he has an air of someone playing his own game and is one of the players that seems good when trying themselves but links poorly with others. Thought that was the case a bit at Wolves where he’d do some good close control and generating space for himself, before delivering a wayward pass. I put that down to him getting used to the system initially – while I think he was better than his latter-season cameos, I still think he needs to do more. You naturally won’t like the suggestion, but I thought Sharp did give the team more of a lift with a positive albeit much briefer introduction.

I expect Holmes will get opportunities. Unfortunately for him, the Plan B if Duffy doesn’t play has tended to be to go with 3 central midfielders. It was good to see us try one up front for a bit with both Duffy & Holmes just behind.

I always take notice of what you say, mate. You are sensible, measured and know what you are talking about.

I don’t agree that Sharp had a greater impact. I think his days are numbered. I doubt he’ll score ten more goals in a Blades shirt. When he’s not scoring, he’s a passenger.

Holmes was lively, energetic and his movement was imaginative. He looked like a man with something to prove and determined to do so.

I doubt either will start against Swansea and neither would, left to me.

No, we aren’t. The ‘folk’ may well be. It’s the Bladesfans’ Way.

Indeed, it seems that some Blades would be happy with anyone at all as long as they are over the hill & huge wage earners. Well I say earners, but I really mean stealers.
