"Wow 5 more pages of rumours, maybe we've made some progress here..."

* 5 pages of people bitching about each other later

"I think deep down I knew it was going to be 5 pages people bitching about each other..."

Ipswich don't spend. Marcus Evans is filthy rich, but he's prudent when it comes to football.

12 months left....player wants to leave, they signed him for a nominal fee....

I think we should have gone in with 3m with the potential to go a little higher, 5m straight in seems mental.

The link posted a couple of pages ago saying that Ipswich turned down an offer from us earlier in the window suggests that we did exactly that.

True . But he also named Waghorn and then told us he was too expensive . Wilder never reveals his interest in specific players unless the Club that owns said player reveals to all and sundry that we've made a bid for them ala Holmes and Leonard.

On a similar note I also think Wilders ruled out a move for Hogan though I'd infer from what was said that we may have enquired about his availabilty but his wages mean he's miles out of our reach .

Interestingly whilst Sam Gallagher was only mentioned by Biggs Wilder never even got close to discussing him or his situation .

Edit : this response was in relation to HeCanDoMagic

12 months left with an option for a further 12 months so I understand

No, I grasp that as well as anybody.

Maybe we shouldn't be wasting time on Gallagher and Hogan then. Or maybe we should accept paying loan fees or signing on fees to cover the excess wages.
Maybe we aren't interested anymore, hence the Waghorn bid. The football transfer market isn't as simple as you make out.

We don't buy players simply if they're younger, or simply if they'll fetch a higher fee in the future. These are 2 factors in literally hundreds that will be taken into consideration. These factors Wilder considers, you won't necessarily be aware of. Yet you still seem ready to call certain signings bad ones without knowing anywhere near the full picture.

I get that people have opinions but you keep pushing yours as if you're more knowledgeable than anyone else (including Wilder) about who we should and shouldn't sign. You aren't.

Do you think if Wilder thought Gallagher was a better option and an affordable one, he would just go for Waghorn for a laugh? There will be a reason he's going for Waghorn and if he pays in excess of £5m for him, there will be a good reason for doing that too. He's no mug, our manager.

Think we can both agree that it will be interesting to how it all pans out. 20 days to go.

I wouldn't rule out something way out of left field.

Isn't that the whole point of a message board? Why not just tell Ricky why you disagree with his assessment. It may be controversial - and probably not advisable - but we're even allowed to disagree with Wilder.

Agreed mate . And I just can't help but feel that we'll all be pleasantly surprised by who we do bring in when it happens .

Another Edit : apologies HCDM ..... quote functions fucked for me o_O

I suppose it is. But I think there's a difference between saying you're not sure about certain signings and outright saying that we shouldn't have done this and that but instead we should do this and that.

How can you give such sure opinions when dealing with so little facts to come to such conclusions?

And some people insist on over complicating it. Give me just 10 of these 'literally hundreds' of factors. Ideally including one silly old me won't be aware of.

Waghorn isn't an alternative to Gallagher. They're different players, and Gallagher is possible to loan. Wilder will want to bring in a big man in addition to someone like Waghorn. He's still in for Gallagher.

I know the 'just trust our manager' line is the easiest, most popular one to go with but like it or not, Wilder has made recruitment mistakes, and will make more in the future.

But maybe I should start prefixing my posts with 'I'm sure I know less than everybody else, but...' just to appease people.

I don't think even Wilder and the technical board can give sure opinion; it's all educated informed/ uneducated/uninformed opinion. If a person is extremely forthright with an opinion, then they better have a decent track record, is all I'd say. If not they leave themselves open to ridicule. One or two on here made some very forthright opinions on young players; I've reminded them of that since. It's brave in a way to stick your head above the parapet and be outspoken and opionated.Could be made to look daft. I prefer to quietly get things right and then remind people who very outspokenly told me I was talking crap. For the record, I think Ricky's usually got a decent eye.

It all boils down to whether Waghorn wants to come,we have always been told that you don't keep a player that 'wants away'.This saga is similar to the Leon Clarke situation, splits opinion, not a sexy signing but personally, like Leon i think it would be a very shrewd purchase,by a very clever manager,£5m is about right.

A majority of the time it isn't what you write, its the tone in which you do so - which has got far worse over the last few weeks.

Like with anyone on here your free to write how you want, but because of the aforementioned tone, which you must do intentionally, you will get responses aimed at you and not the content.

Cant you go back to the slightly better toned 'I know better than everyone else Scout Ricky'?! :D

Chill fella.
Likening the situation to a game of poker. Wilder knows what he is holding in his hand as well as what is on display on the table. As we can only see what is on the table we can only come to conclusions based partly on assumptions.

You’re right. In fact I don’t disagree with anything Ricky said in the post to which you reply. No manager is perfect and even the greatest of them make a few mad bad signings. All I would say is that the only people who never make mistakes are those who never make decisions.

I’ve had the odd contretemps with Ricky (which is most unusual for me) but I’ve come to realise he’s a good Blade with his heart in the right place and no fool.

In recent times though, he appears to have become an associate member of the Agenda Group, which I consider to be a shame and below his standards.

❤️⚔️

Dont forget his 11 assists, contributed to more goals in the championship than anybody else. In a relatively shite ipswich squad. In todays mental market, I dont think 5m is that bad..... im more surprised that we have 5m to spend after 4 on egan.

I’m tempting Fire and Fury here but we may get to a stage, if we’re not scrupulously careful, where we have to give some credit to the owners.
