I don't get this forum. When we buy for £200k there's no ambition. When we pay a good fee, we're spunkin it
Then you don’t understand basic business acumen.

I hope he turns out to be a worldie for us, for what it’s worth, and makes whatever fee paid look like a bargain.

I think he was referring more to this boards susceptibility to go from demanding that we start spending money but then moaning when we do, rather than describing a false dichotomy where it's either spend nothing or spend a fortune.

Our budget was £5m to be increased by an additional £2m

Court transcript says transfer budget had two permanent fees at £2.5m with a further £4.9m in additional wages. This was said to equate to 2 permanent signings and 3 loans. These figures supposedly did not account for the funding of the extra £2.5m that the owners were disagreeing over at the Preliminary Hearing. So another £2m could be a top up leaving a total budget nearer £10m.

Not quite.

The initial disagreement was over the assertion that United needed £10m of cash input (which can only realistically come from the owners - £5m each) to run between July 2018 and January 2019. That included £7m transfer budget but only allowed for £600k of incomings. UTB (the Saudi side) said that the £7m wasn't necessary and as such United only needed £3m to cover the underlying running costs. The £2.5m being argued about was supplementary to the £3m but there's no resolution there.

The Brooks outgoing has injected £4.5m of additional cash into the budget so covers off the running costs in their entirety while the loan of Carruthers and sale of Long and Moore (pending) will provide further room for manoeuvre.

I've assumed that we've got loan fees for Thomas, Heneghan and Carruthers and that their wages are being covered by the clubs they've moved to.

We can afford Egan on the basis that we'll be signing him on a £3m deal payable in £1m instalments in July this year and January and July next year. His wages won't be astronomical (Brentford aren't big payers) so at most I'd expect that signing to account for £1.25m of the £3m budget. That leaves us with somewhere in the region of a further £1.75m to cover other signings - that's not the total fee, just the instalments which will be due between now and January.

Basically, selling Brooks was the key to everything.

Usual Crab Industries T&C's.

No refunds, ever ;)

Just having a look at your terms now...

"...Crab products are licensed to you for your use but remain Crab Industries property in perpetuity and are subject to repossession at any time..."

Always wondered why those suitcases I bought off you had a load of women's underwear and duty free in them.

That was a logistical error, LYDON had asked me to fetch him some stock back for Dempseys when I went over to Calais. I'll miss the business meetings over an Afternoon Tea in Atkinsons :(

Havent really thought that through have you ?
I have actually seen him play quite a few times, hustle and bustle, nothing at the end, last season was a one season wonder, he will not repeat it again............. there again if he comes to us, I hope I am wrong...

He isn't 'splashhalfyourbudget' good, especially when we need to sign 2 strikers... not sure where I've said we're splashing half our budget on him?

I reiterate, you gave the allusion about the club splashing half of our budget.

Whether you directly said we are spending half our budget or not is neither here nor there. It’s the allusion you made.

For me it's a yes and no to that. Obviously this is dealing in hypotheticals and obviously if Wilder is paying 4m for a player then you'd expect them to be better than what we have (and from what I've seen of Egan he is better than Stearman and Basham). At the same time you cannot simply play someone just because they cost you 4m. If we're purely going off of that logic then JOC shouldn't be part of our defence because he only cost 300k, Fleck should be behind Lunny and Evans because he was only free and Brayford should still be here ahead of Freeman and Baldock at RWB because he cost 1.5m more than both of them.

Places in a Wilder team get earned on ability and form and while to an extent he would be inclined to play the most expensive player he's ever signed I'd like to think that Wilder would rather choose a lineup based on the best players at his disposal regardless of how much they were bought for.
Agree with most of that but my point still stands, he will start for us and only if his form drops off will he then be benched or rested. There’s no questions to be answered then as to how can you buy a player for £4m yet start him on the bench every week, well not us anyway.

Lord almighty. I said I wouldn’t want us to spend half our budget on him. We aren’t. Chill out.

I suspect if there were not so many gratuitous attacks on our own club, at every available opportunity, those who feel compelled to respond would indeed ‘chill out’.

I think your imagination is at it again, Pinchy.

Like it was when you were saying Wilder was a no mark manager before he was appointed.. remember?

United have paid an undisclosed, club-record fee for a 25-year-old defender with proven leadership qualities and Championship experience.

Brentford captain John Egan has penned a four-year-deal at Bramall Lane, to become Chris Wilder's second quality summer addition, after the arrival of Manchester United stopper Dean Henderson.

Twice-capped Republic of Ireland international Egan has made 67 appearances for the Bees during the last two seasons and is regarded as one of the most consistent defenders in the Championship.

Egan, who began his career at Sunderland, is no stranger to Bramall Lane, having played once for the Blades during a short loan spell in the second half of the 2011/12 campaign under Danny Wilson. Prior to his time at Griffin Park, the central defender amassed nearly 100 appearances as he impressed at Gillingham.

Boss Chris Wilder is delighted the Cork-born man sees his long-term future at Bramall Lane and believes the Blades have got a great deal.

The gaffer remarked: "John has been our number one target in that position throughout the summer, it has been going on a while and we've kept it close to our chests because we've had to. I've monitored him for a number of seasons now and he is a defender who defends properly and he's been excellent as skipper for Brentford.

"We see him as a leader and he is worthy of the fee we've paid for him, in my opinion he is a better player than a couple of those who have already moved for bigger fees this summer. His Championship experience will be crucial as is his experience of being at the right end of the division.

"He's a great age, will develop with us and when that happens I have every confidence that he will be a regular international with the Republic of Ireland."

Club record signing? So does that make it over 4m-sure we payed that for Beattie?

Either way, good signing and typical Wilder - sign the quality players in our league to get out of it.

I was the one complaining on another thread regards our transfer activity and I said people would come on as soon as something good happens and here I am, great signing!

I don’t give a fuck how much he cost, it could be £400k or £4m but it would still be a great signing either way. Get in there!
