Amazed at our fans I really am.

Monday - don’t want to sign players like Mcgoldrick released from an Ipswich side

Tuesday - He’s good sign him but we need to spend money.

Wednesday - John Egan planned at probably between 3m. Nixon said it’s close to highest fee and we go mad.

Brentford fans can say what they like but they played him every game he was fit and was there captain.

That may have been the case last year but no way would he be playing ahead of Chris Mepham this. We've already turned down an £8m bid for Mepham, he's nailed on first choice if he stays. I promise I'm not slagging him off as a player, he's decent but most Bees fans will tell you he was an odd choice of captain, he's pretty quiet on the field.

I know mate, I was just clearing it up for those that think otherwise.

Agree with your second point to a degree but let me give you an example here of some sort, if a player costs £4m is he likely to start over a player who costs £400k? And that’s my point.
For me it's a yes and no to that. Obviously this is dealing in hypotheticals and obviously if Wilder is paying 4m for a player then you'd expect them to be better than what we have (and from what I've seen of Egan he is better than Stearman and Basham). At the same time you cannot simply play someone just because they cost you 4m. If we're purely going off of that logic then JOC shouldn't be part of our defence because he only cost 300k, Fleck should be behind Lunny and Evans because he was only free and Brayford should still be here ahead of Freeman and Baldock at RWB because he cost 1.5m more than both of them.

Places in a Wilder team get earned on ability and form and while to an extent he would be inclined to play the most expensive player he's ever signed I'd like to think that Wilder would rather choose a lineup based on the best players at his disposal regardless of how much they were bought for.

Not many Bees fans too fussed at him leaving. Many saying he's not at their level and not pacey or fluid enough.
We have joc and bash for those tasks so it must be to tighten up centrally.
£4m would be a sensible fee in this market.

We all agree your manager is very good and he rated him enough to give him captains arm band and play him every week. Turned down our offer in the summer and it’s interesting to see on your forum only a few days ago your fans rating him highly.

Brentford are selling (reportedly)

Egan 3m
Jozfroon 4m

There captain and both starters

And we sold someone who didn’t start for us for over £12m. Unreal business.

Apologies, I was wrong, contract expires in 2020. We're a selling club, we generally sell players at maximum value if we can, we're doing that here. It's how we survive and has worked well so far.

As for him as a player, he's a decent Championship centre back, he won't be letting anyone down.

Funny that the board at SUFC take the polar opposite stance, our piss poor board usually drop their nerve at the first derogatory offer that comes in, go all weak at the knees and sell the family silver at well under market value. It's how successive boards at the Lane have f***ed our club over for the last 50 years and why we have failed so miserably since the late 60s.

But I'll bet my last dollar that they'll be fans coming on this thread now making excuse after excuse for the board telling everyone what a great job they have been doing for SUFC!!!

We've made two very big mistakes in the past few years that has shaped our transfer policy. We couldn't get Alfie Mawson or Jack O'Connell in our first team because we had older players blocking them. That cost us a lot of money

We won't make that mistake again - Chris Mepham will be first choice centre back next year and last year our best pairing was him and Andreas Bjelland but for one reason or another, we didn't get them on the pitch often enough

Bit of an age difference.

Agree where your coming from in regards to getting youngsters into the first team. Looking at your team it seems Mepham and Egan played quite regular together.

We like a balance of passing footballers and proper head it kick players. We were an injury away from being promoted last season I believe (Coutts). But it’s amazing at how every player we sign everyone says there limited and they come here and excel. Let’s hope for another one.

Seen that Konsa a few times not sure he’s ready for championship football just yet.

Not sure I've said he's limited? Mepham and Egan played because Bjelland was often injured.

Is this close to being properly confirmed then? Seems people are talking about it with confidence now.

No but its looking pretty certain to happen sooner rather than later according to Radio Sheffield who usually only comment when things are nearing completion.

He’ll be a cracking signing but those who think he’s great playing out from the back or bombing on might be disappointed.

A right footed O’Connell he isn’t. I think he’ll be in the middle of that 3 myself.

From memory I've noticed our fans have wanted a commanding no nonsense centre back over a more silky take the ball out of defence type. My thoughts are that Bash and O'Connell do that well so we just need an out an out defender and preferably leader back there, although Stears is a leader in my view, he isn't getting any younger and we need competition.

Love Brentford, regularly sell their established championship players for market value,no dramas, just get on with the job and are always a very competative team.I think we could learn an awful lot from Brentford and their fans, they understand the realities of life,i wish we did........respect !!

I’m certain he won’t. I’m afraid Tufty rates Stears a good deal higher than you appear to do. Egan, assuming he signs, will play RCB. Tufty previously went after the Blackburn lad who got injured, Linehan, for exactly the same role. As I understand it the manager thinks we conceded too many goals. Bash, for all his qualities, is a dodgy defender.

I’m afraid some Blades confuse what they want to happen with what is likely to happen.

You do realise the irony of your incressant arse licking of Stearman? You’re doing the same thing as what you shot others down for doing with Jake Wright, except to an even higher degree.

Not so much shakey jakeys, more shakey dick.

Les,

Nice to hear from you. Don’t get too carried away with compliments from some of those claiming to be our fans, though. Many of them, sadly, suffer from a congenital local disorder known as Bladey Inferiority Syndrome. It wreaks havoc with the central nervous system and generates irrational thoughts.

The symptoms are unusual and complex. The sufferers jerk their knees as though doing the Tyburn Jig. They compulsively tug their forelocks at the mere mention of ‘other clubs’, deluding themselves that said clubs are perfect in every way. If wearing hats or caps, there is an involuntary reflex motion of the arm and hand such as to quickly raise and lower the headwear in the manner of a doff. The mere mention of such notable football titans as Southend, Bristol City, Preston and, most particularly from your point of view, Brentford is a known cause of this phenomenon.

In tandem with this obsequious compulsion to lavish praise on and seeing no fault in pretty average football clubs the disorder produces quite the opposite reaction in relation to the club they pretend to support, namely derision and denigration at each and every opportunity, distortion of reality, self-flagellation and wearing of hair shirts. There is also an overwhelming and irresistible desire to spend other people’s money, colloquially known as chucksumdeelsesmunnehatit, not yet appearing in the W.H.O. International Classification of Diseases but it’s only a matter of time before it appears in sections S2 and S13.

Neurologically, thought processes are in straight lines only. The most mundane and obvious facts and circumstances emanating from our own club are treated with near-psychotic disbelief whilst any old bollocks from ‘other clubs’ is immediately accepted as though handed down from Sinai in the Ark of the Covenant. All sense of reality and reason is either lost or distorted.

Sorry to go on at such length. You’re a welcome guest but there comes a time when you have to hear of the madness, lest you get a false impression. We tried locking them up in a cupboard with some A4 and a few crayons but Social Services got involved.

Anyway, enjoy your football at Brentford. It’s a small club, presently punching above its weight and well done for that.

Very ‘umble.

I realise everything. I’m surprised you needed to ask. I spotted Jake’s limitations at Championship level early doors. It’s what I do.

Stears a far better player. Tufty thinks so too. You do realise Jakie doesn’t figure in his plans don’t you? You Shakeys really will have to abandon your wishful thinking and face facts some time soon or life will become a series of disappointments.

So a supporter of a club that sold us JOC for £250,000 comes on and you use it as an example of one club being better run than the other when discussing a player who hasn't signed for a transfer fee that will be undisclosed if it happens.
Then Ricky enters stage left to like the post. This lad will know all the fine details, fee, wages, position etc etc
You could both set up a little club where if each of you catch the hint of a smile on the others lips you immediately reach for a pre cut lemon half and suck, then get straight on the internet to tell us the Russians have reached Barnsley and its all Kevins fault for selling players undervalue.
Under the current management, Utd's transfer business has been broadly excellent, thats a given surely? That's 2 years.

And they've got the back to our home shirt.

Richard Stearman was immense last season. After his injury it took him some games to get going but he was solid. I love Jake Wright, I really do, but Stearman is a better overall defender than him.

It’s not in doubt. What interests me is whether Jake decides to stay and enjoy a few games at the highest level he’ll ever play at, or leave to play more football.

I hope he stays one more year.
