It's anything but a joke

but it is, thats exactly what it is, you and anyone else has no idea of our budget, what deals we are trying to structure be it with hogan, Gallagher or anyone else, so are just going to spend the next 3 weeks rolling out the same boring "wages" bollocks

Because that's the reason we keep getting from the press. 'Wages are high' 'wages are a stumbling block' 'doesn't fit within the wage budget'.

The reasons listed are much more boring than making a quip at our inability to spend what is the going rate if you ask me.

So do we have to wait for Wilder to confirm we're after a player now before assuming it's true? Even if it's within the local and national press, from seperate sources?

You're free to use any media outlet you wish. (Be it The Sun and The Sheffield Star in this case)

I personally find that the BBC and SKY are both fairly accurate/reliable when it comes to reporting transfers, so I use them.

Hogan is very much improbable to me too unless he's desperate to leave a sinking ship and will leave at a cut price. I assume he won't however.
I was impressed when we were linked but I knew this would be beyond our budget in terms of wages - he'd be a brilliant signing.
Someone on the other thread keeps telling me he's below average, and we could get better - no we couldn't. Villa is a graveyard for strikers who's names aren't Jonathan or Kodjia and even he had a hellish season last year.

They've destroyed Ross McCormack, Scott Hogan, Libor Kozak and even now Kodjia since they've been in this division. And Lewis Grabban scored more in 5 months at relegated Sunderland than at Villa.

I'd take all of them in a heartbeat.

The phrase 'embarrassment of riches' springs to mind.

And what does Wilder say, you know, the one who knows the budget he has to work with and will identify and go for the targets? Oh yeah, that hes happy with the budget. So we go for a player wilder likes, wilder decides his wages do not offer value for money so he moves on to other targets, but this apparently is not good enough for you and he should pay the quoted, just because you think he is the one and only saviour and without him we will surely be relegated. Give over. Such sandy vagina drama queens honestly. You and Topplayersleave should go for a drink somewhere together, preferably without internet access.

We are 3 weeks from the beginning of the season and our lack of depth in key areas is alarming.
I'm very glad you're content, and I'm happy for your sake you weren't in Portugal on thursday and friday so you can keep your head in the aforementioned sand.

I was in Portugal on both Thursday and Friday, Wednesday too, I fail to see the relevance? Our lack of depth will be addressed, we are 3 weeks away as you say, if you dont think that wilder has a rather large number of irons in the fire and will have them over the line before the 4th, you are completely deluded. He has done right by the club and its fans since taking over and I fail to see how that would now change. We have lost nobody of any importance from our squad that performed very well last season, had it not been for coutts injury, we may have finished a lot higher but our season was more than adequate and more than expected for almost all Blades fans.

Were you on the strip with the players? Did you see what happened? Or were you home, bathed and bed?
The squad harmony combined with lack of depth and signings coming in is frankly a recipe for disaster. I'm glad you're not concerned. You should be.

Firstly: we dont know exactly who our targets are, we only hear speculation.

Secondly: You don't know if a players wage demands are beyond you until you speak to them, which comes after negotiating a price with a club.

I believe that in reality, you find out the player's wages/demands first, establish whether they're interested and then make a bid.

It would be pretty stupid having a bid accepted only to find the player is on treble what you can afford.

This only makes our approach for Hogan more baffling though. We will have known exactly what he's earning from the start yet have still decided to pursue it. The only way we get him is if we're willing to pay a large loan fee.

Why is it baffling? How many players have Villa sold so far this window? Bearing in mind the financial muscle some of those interested in Grealish have.

Thanks for telling me what I should, and shouldn't be concerned about, makes my day far simpler when I have some melt on a forum telling me what I should be doing. You have no idea of the squad harmony, even if you did see a few drunken guys throwing a few punches around, I imagine this happens up and down the land at every football club, on training grounds, in dressing rooms etc etc and if it happened (Weird in this day and age, where everything is on Social media that there is not one single video or picture to back up all of this very public fighting?) then it will be dealt with by the club im sure and the players will suffer the consequences and get on with their jobs.

It happened you 'melt' - if you don't believe me believe everyone else that's said it. The first instinct when you see some of your favourite blokes throwing punches at each other isn't often to take videos...

Nobody is going to do villa favours. They need to get a host of players out the door so clubs if sensible will wait for the price to go down.

Is this Enda taking a swing at JOC then, it has been mentioned on another thread along with Billy shouting at someone and Bash trying to bundle a drunken and resistant Coutts into a taxi. Out of all of those it's only the first incident that I would be bothered about as a manager.

If more happened then fair enough but if it was really bad I am fairly sure it would have been widely spread on social media by now? Whilst you probably weren't inclined to whip out your mobile someone else surely would have been?

Im pretty sure, in this day and age, its exactly the first thing that people do. The lack of any of this leads me to believe, that its bollocks or is been blown of our all proportion but again, its going to lead to our relegation!

It's not bollocks, I don't really care whether you believe that or not.

Most people on the strip won't have known who they were. And by this point a lot of the players had split up anyway. Further down the strip all was well - it was later when they had a bit too much to drink all this occurred. I saw most of it but there was something else that i only heard about.

And Ched's had a drunken back tattoo :)

You don't? Well that has just ruined my day. From attempting to tell me what to do, to not caring if I believe you? Fucking gutted. My point stands, this is 2018. If shit happens, phones come out. Robberies, murders, terrorist attacks, street fights, kids bullying other kids, Ched taking advantage of a woman through a hotel window, everything is recorded and posted to social media, the fact that there were maybe 400 - 500? (maybe more) blades on the strip and not one single piece of evidence surfaced, makes it laughable.

Unless of course, you were the only person to witness it, down a back alley, that you just so happened to stumble across. Favorite blokes as well? really? They are footballers..... not your bezzie mates. Or is that how you see them so it make recording impossible? poor you :(

The only people who should be concerned is Wilder and his team and from recent interviews Wilder doesn't seem worried at all. I'm not sure why you would get your knickers in such a twist over something you have no control over.

I definitely wasn't the only one to see it and again, I can't stress just how little I care.

Does Wilder even know? Him and Knill weren't out.
And if he does I doubt it's something he's going to spout about on radio sheffield.

No problems with taking McGoldrick on trial seeing how he does.

IMO he's better than Lavery / Ched / Hanson and prob Donaldson (though he had a role to play imo.) So would improve competition in the squad from last year.

Even if he's Donaldson part deux, maybe a little less Bambi like, I'd snap him up. 5 in 17 isn't bad for (basically) just wages.

Don't think 30 is that old either.

So not worried at all that the team are out on the lash? They are athletes and are supposed to be on pre-season training working up to peak match fitness, not on holiday. How many other top level teams do you think would be out on the beers on their pre-season tour? Smacks of being very amateur. Think this is where Wilder shows he is a bit too old school and trying to hard to be one of the lads rather than a top level manager. Yes I know team bonding blah blah, but seriously this is surely not the best way to prepare for the season, fighting or not.

Fact- in a group of blokes, some will get on, some will be best mates, some will hate others, some will tolerate!
When there’s a bit of booze in there, the tolerate and get on options are removed.
Leaving mates and those they hate. And it’s when things get ugly.

It’s the same at every club/workplace in the land.
The next day, the adults get their heads together, agree to disagree, remain professional and carry on as that’s their job.
The kids carry it on, affect the job of themselves and others and are eventually sacked/moved on to be someone else’s problem.

But it’s always sorted one way or the other.

You're right Ricky, in real life a lot of it goes on. It's either 'tapping up or 'putting the feelers out' depending on whether you're an agent or not.

The point I was trying to make though, was that until your speaking to the player and agent directly, you won't truly know their demands, and thus whether they're a realistic target or not.
