Too sensible for this place at the moment. What is there to lose in having him on trial? Nowt! Also if another player is currently playing hardball over a contract it might make them hurry up in their decision that we could actually look elsewhere!?
The thing that (almost) made me laugh about that article in the Star, is when they say that we are trying, unsuccessfully, to get Hogan from Villa on loan, but Villa don't want to do a loan, so we've turned to McGoldrick instead! Bloody hell! That's a bit like me saying, I've been in the Ferrari dealers and tried to knock them down in price on the Ferrari 458, but they're having none of it. So I've been down to Lookers on Saville Street and got myself a Ford Fiesta instead.
I'm assuming United realise that Villa are up shit-creek without a paddle? I'm assuming they realise that they desperately need to raise cash? I'm even assuming United know that they paid £12M for Hogan and that he's on big wages? If we do know those things, what on earth makes us think, for one moment, that they'd be happy to let him go out on loan? They'll want shut of him for a fee - for a big fee I'd imagine - maybe at least half of what they paid for him - and then the buying club will need to find over £30k a week to pay him.
I admire the tenacious spirit of United in this case, with the same level of admiration that I would have watching a little Fox Terrier snapping at a Rottweiler. You have to admire it's courage and fearlessness, but you know also that it hasn't a chance in hell of winning that particular battle.

legs made of wotsits", .
He will get around 14 goals, Sharp 12, Clarke 16Agree with the majority on here - a good player who is an improvement on Utd's strikers bar Sharp and Clarke. He'll just need to stay fit but if he does, I can see him getting 8-10 goals next season providing he gets enough chances.
So you don't think it's a bit silly that some posters have basically re-written The Star article in their own head to suit an argument? It's touching, it really is, the blind loyalty of some who won't hear a word of criticism about out great club. It's all about agendas yada, yada, yada.....Improved budget, 12m fee for Brooks and peope wonder why theres critisism that a 30 yr old injury prone striker is on trial....really????
That isn't the point. The point is that people are assuming this is the only signing we will make up top all summer, and comparing it to rumours. Wilder has repeatedly said we are still in for top-end players, so unless people think he's lying they need to chill the fuck out and appreciate this for what it is - a good squad signing. It's touching, it really is, the blind loyalty of some who won't hear a word of criticism about out great club. Need Fleck and Duffy to score half a dozen
And would be interesting to see if we can score from a corner this coming season
People moaning about McGoldrick being injury prone but Scott Hogan is more injury prone than him FFS.
Even if we spent the entire £12m Brooks fee on the players we needed we wouldn't be able to look anywhere but the damaged goods shelf. You don't get proven Championship players on that budget.Supermarkets have a special shelf for damaged goods, that's where we appear to be shopping while £4 upfront will fund a high court battle of egos.
Please prove me wrong![]()

Some on here grisly ! Wouldn't be satisfied if we signed Mbappa ( too young not proven ) where's the trust in Wilder gone.A quality player. Lovely touch, good vision. And yes he may be 30, but I think a certain B.Sharp and L.Clarke proved a few things last season!!
Saw him for Ipswich last season and we did a job on him. But doesn’t alter anything about the kind of player he is.
And what he brings into the club is something different to what we have already.
The injuries issue...well that’s what medicals, physios and sport science is for. If we trial him and see we can get him right then he could be a gamble worth taking, and be able to take advantage of his situation of being without a salary at present.
I actually think he will be good as a back up. All I'm saying is I understand the frustration of some.
One interesting factor at play at the minute is Wilders apparent attitude change to signings. Previously he's been very "' if it's all about the money they can f off as they really need to want to play for us." It seems the offers for Gallagher and Hogan have been in for a while and he's giving them a lot of time as he knows they aren't going to come for less.money than they are on.
