Outgoing? O’Connell to Brighton

I’ve come to the conclusion that many of our supporters don’t want to appreciate that. They think there is a simple solution, like it’s a computer game where you can just ‘raise the wage structure’ or ‘tell x to fuck off and hold him to his contract’ because it suits their argument to believe things like this. They’re upset because we’re not as successful as they think we should be and we keep selling players they love to watch and get exited about.

It doesn’t matter how many times people explain that we’re competing with owners who are putting in more than £10m a season (until they run out or fall foul of FFP), that our owners simply can’t afford to do that; either they will personally go bankrupt or put the club into administration if they did, that to be anywhere close to competing with the idiot clubs we have to carry more losses than they can afford to cover so we have to sell players sometimes to make up the difference.

And even if they do, there’s a simple answer; ‘sell up to new owners’, ignoring the reality that for every good owner there are ten bad ones, that clubs like Forest and Leeds have been changing owners and losing big money for years and have achieved fuck all.

You’re dealing with people who think there are simple answers to complex problems. I’m bored of it, bored of the same people posting the same crap.
I'll buy you a pint before the QPR game if you're around.

Will be good to put a name to a face and have a sensible conversation ;)

The Harry Maguire approach. Oh sorry, you said six months.
Harry forced a move by refusing to play in a friendly. It’s as simple as that. There’s about 20 clubs now looking at that deal and thinking we could have had Maguire for £2.5m but we didn’t even try, we watched him go to Hull.

Wit says not happening ... end of thread.
I never really expected it to.

I think this is a monumental season brewing. CWs move to allow Brooks to go and his unwillingness to sell anyone else really is backing himself for something big this season.

It might be my optimism but the decision by CW to sell Brooks excited rather than disappointed me.

Great post.

Look, we don't hold out for big money, we sell to the first and lowest bidder and ignore all the higher ones.

Now it appears we don't pay the players enough.

We just need to buy a bigger money tree. It's that simple.

Tosh. With the Brooks money alone, not forgetting the Maguire/Walker money, we've got enough in the kitty to cover the losses for the next 3 years and still give Wilder a bit to spend. There's simply no need to sell anyone else. O'Connell & Fleck are on long contracts and they should simply be reminded of this.

Say YEAH.

As my Nan would say, there are none so blind as those who don't want to see.

How much are the next three years losses?

I've held off posting until now as what's really getting my goat isn't Brighton, Nixon, our board etc. It's our fans. From quite a few on here, the focus is not on keeping him, it's how much the club should get for him. £5m, nah, should be £10m at least. Fucking hell, you would think they were getting a cut. What a fucking shower, with fans of this outlook we've got no fucking chance. No wonder the club think they are able to take liberties.

Again, you do know that what a few fans on the internet think has no effect on what the club does, don't you?

Harry forced a move by refusing to play in a friendly. It’s as simple as that. There’s about 20 clubs now looking at that deal and thinking we could have had Maguire for £2.5m but we didn’t even try, we watched him go to Hull.

Who then sold him to Leicester for £12m last season. And some of our fans seem to think we'll get £15m for O'Connell.

Estimated at about £5m pa. Make it two years then if you think it's more and want to split hairs. The tenet of my post remains the same, there is no immediate pressure on the club to sell any more players.

I would suggest Harry's contract expiring the following summer had more to do with it. It would have gone to a tribunal which is a wing and a prayer. I don't believe in the notion of forcing a move. He's legally bound by the terms of his contract, the only way he can force a move is if there is a clause in there. He can make things uncomfortable at the club, but if there's five years on his deal we could've made him play with the kids if need be.All in all, he played for the first team aroud 150 times, and it was time to let him progress his career imo. He'd paid the club back for our investment in him.

Another expert accountant with an insight to how the club is run etc.

The malaise amongst our fans is not confined to the internet. I don't see a reply in your post.

It is completely confined to the internet.

And my reply was post #190. A few fans posting opinions on the internet has no affect on what the club does. Getting upset about a few fans posting how much they think a player is worth is completely ridiculous.

There are 3 players in our squad I would not sell Fleck,Coutts and JOC.
We should not need to sell JOC after Brooks departure and need to keep our best players to improve the squad for next season.

Thank fuck for that, someone who agrees. However, you're not an expert accountant so you're talking rubbish.

I really don't get the mentality that should a player want to leave that we should force them to train with the kids then let them leave for nothing once their contract is up. I can't think of an example where this has ever worked in a club's favour.

We need to look at the here and know. No resolve to the ownership situation for starters. Okay , losses covered for two years, so any further investment in the team is dependent on the owner, whoever that it. If it's one of the current joint owners the general consensus is neither have the money. So unless we get to the PL, we stagnate, which in football terms really means go backwards.

Quoting ridiculous valuations doesn't help either.

You don't sit where I sit and you don't talk to who I talk too. You're just another club apologist who accepts any old shit.

Haha Brilliant. So where do you sit? Who do you talk to?

What are you currently doing to show that you won't accept what club is doing?

*You do know that we haven't actually sold O'Connell and Fleck, don't you?

That's the trouble with talking to blinkered people with the same thought process. Seeing a different point of view becomes nigh on impossible.

Good to see the "club apologist" jibe though. That's as stupid as telling you to "FOTH if you don't like it."

*You do know that we haven't actually sold O'Connell and Fleck, don't you?

So if we get an offer of £5m+ for either of these you honestly think we'll keep them. Fucking hell I give up sometimes.

We'll stagnate a lot quicker if we carry on as we are. We've agreed on two years so lets see what next season brings first before panic stations.
