From the comfort of my sofa , I have scored at least a dozen goals in this World Cup that other less capable tossers have completely fucked up .

These include the likes of Christiano Ronaldo , Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani , not to mention Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling.

Next season , I shall bear this in mind when judging the efforts of Billy and Leon and try to remember that all good strikers miss more chances than shit strikers , simply because they put themselves in that position on many more occasions.

I shall also try to remember that putting the ball in the net is , apparently , somewhat easier from the comfort of the sofa or the stands.

Perhaps those of the persuasion that ' Leon should have scored at least 30 goals last season ' might also like to give this experiment a try .

Coutts made a similar point in his excellent interview the other day. He said how easy the game is from the stands, where you have the time and perspective (not his words) to see things that on the pitch are impossible to see. What I never understand is how the great players see possibilities that that most on the pitch and the rest of us in the stands don't spot. TC always had that ability.

Talent hits a target that others cannot hit. Genius hits a target that others cannot see.

That post would have been bang on the money if you hadn't mentioned Sterling!

Maybe some miss on purpose - like some of my mates are trying to convince themselves that is what Rashford did last night.

Glad you enjoyed it :)

A mate of mine took a tennis ball with him when he went to the BDTBL open day a few years ago - he said he had always wanted to score in front of the Kop.

He missed...

An honour reserved for only a few of us :D

I have been lucky enough to play at The 'Lane twice, scoring the first of 2 goals in one game at the Kop end, would have had a hat trick too as I had a header against the bar which bounced down on the line but a colleague touched it in the twat. Only got one in the other game, at the away end. Either way it gave me a huge thrill.

I once put in a good few crosses from left back, taking Ashley Cole out of the first team. I even stole his wife at the time, Cheryl for a night. Then the bastard dogs woke me up barking.

Coutts' positive attitude and good sense were very encouraging. I didn't give my source, because of the abuse which inevitably follows. I don't know how you cope...

The way we play our strikers need to be more clinical and offer more attributes.

I'm fans of both, both will have a part to play but I'm with Wilder on this. We need more talent upfront.
