So much wrong with one sentence.Brooks is a true match winner player who brings genuine class a few months ago Wilder was digging saying I want this and that to happen then he let’s Brooke’s go and says nothing all bollocks
The other thing to add is that I don’t think even now we know how to necessarily utilise him best in the system we play. The games he played the Duffy role behind two strikers, he played like an individual rather than a team player. We don’t look likely to move back to wingers anytime soon, and from what I’ve seen he’s not suited to play a deeper midfield role. His best games have been playing off a striker (more forward than attacking mid tbh) and in that he’s not had the sort of output that Clarke & Sharp have had. I like Brooks, and think he could probably develop into the Duffy role in time, but if I’m honest and pick our best current XI as it stands I don’t think he’s in it. His development also isn’t guaranteed to happen quickly.
Ultimately, Wilder made it clear when Adams left that if a player wants to go, he’ll let them. Contracts are now simply a means of ensuring we get a fair price, it’s not a guarantee that a player is with us for the full contract – it hasn’t been that for some time. If we’re “a selling club” it’ll be with Wilder’s blessing.

I'd love to chat with Kyle Walker and ask him " if you're such a big Blade why did you leave to go to Spurs and become an overnight millionaire with a chance to play in the Premiership "
I very much doubt he would reply "that bastard McCabe made me go"
Why do you assume he did?
If a club gets an offer they are duty bound to tell a player (who's agent would know anyway)
The rest is up to the player.
You can't make em go where they dont want to.
Ask Dane Whitehouse or Dean Hammind
I actually read all that brownie , and what's more I agree with youI think Chris Wilder seems to be fairly pragmatic about all this, and I think the fans need to be as well.
Football is a business now, and all the power lies with the player and the agents now rather than the Football clubs, and if someone comes knocking with a huge contact for one of our players and one we can’t match, then I’m afraid we don’t even stand a prayer of keeping a player in those circumstances, with the huge disparity in money floating around the top flight compared to what is floating around the Championship, there isn’t much we can do apart from try and get the best possible deal that we can. Chris Wilder will know all this as well. As a club all we can do is operate the best we can against this back drop.
I personally don’t think this is a great move for David Brooks, he has got the potential but I think he is far from the finished article, and I didn’t think he quite looked the same player after his illness, and I think he is destined to be one of those players who will go through his career, being world class 1 week in 5. I fear for the player that it might be a step too far, too soon.
I’ve been watching United years and seen a lot of good young players come through and solicit moves early on in their career, and in many cases the moves haven’t been beneficial to the player, I’ve also seen situations where players have come trough and looked exciting and to have a big future only for their career to stall. I can remember Michael Tonge looking like a real star in the making and all the big clubs being interested but only ever ending up a solid Championship player, same with Stephen Quinn and we could have cashed in on them both. Same with Diego De Girolamo who looked to have the world at his feet, and if the Italian club would have come in with a big offer for him he would have been off like a shot, instead they didn’t, and his ended up disappearing off the face of the earth. Anyone also want to tell me what Jordan Slew is up to nowadays? We also sold on Walker and Harry Maguire, but at the time we couldn’t realistically hold on to either of them as we couldn’t offer them the money they wanted. I don’t like selling the Good young players but if they don’t want to be here then nowadays realistically we can’t keep them.
I think £12m represents a hell of a gamble for Bournemouth. They is no saying on how David Brooks career is going to pan out. He could be a one hit wonder or he could go on and be world class. Nobody knows but if we didn’t sell him and his career stalled here, then we could well have lost out on £12m. That amount of money, although is pocket money to an established premiership club like Bournemouth, it is still a hell of a lot of money for a club in the Championship like Sheffield United (our turnover a couple of years ago I believe was around the £8m Mark inclusive of player sales as well).
With the transfer fee, and people saying that he is worth more. He is only worth what people will pay for him. If people think we should hold out for more, how do they know that other clubs will pay more. A player is ultimately only worth what someone will pay for him, it is simple economics. If people think he is worth £15m or £20m, yet the biggest offer we get is £12m, then that is what his true value is.
Once he has gone, he needs to be forgotten about and we need to move on from David Brooks. As supporters we was here before David Brooks and will still be here after David Brooks is long forgotten about. What we all need to do is be a bit more pragmatic about things, understand what the lie of the land is regarding player power and agents, and place a little bit of trust in the man, and the management team that has dragged us kicking and screaming out of the pub league back in to Championship by building a team with some excellent and very shrewd signings. If we use the money to bring in 3 or 4 players to address the weaknesses that became more and more apparent as last season went on, then it is all well and good with me.
And poxy clubs like Bournemouth will remain above us whilst ever we sell them our best players.
My solice in this is we have a manager who will wisely invest whatever (likely paltry) amount he receives from the sale
Same old Blades, first sniff of money.
Trust all this will be added to Wilders budget plus Brooks wages he was on?
Or was this the budget all along?
I bet we haven’t though. Do you really think businessmen like McCabe and the Prince, taking advice from Wilder, will just accept the first offer? Do you think that’s how McCabe got rich? Do you think they live in a bubble?

We could always take a punt on that Jorj Hurst who's just left Wednesday? If we sign a replacement can we ensure that his surname can be spelt in at least three different ways please. One of which needs to be the adding or subtracting of an extra 'e' somewhere.

Definitely not. No thank you. Can’t have it both ways. We’re either forcing him out or he doesn’t want to be here and if he doesn’t want to be here I don’t want him back with his main commitment being elsewhere.
I see your point mate but to be fair, whilst I totally agree that McCabe & The Prince are undoubtedly both very successful businessmen …… neither of them has ever demonstrated a deep seated knowledge and understanding of the football industry.
They appear to think that football Clubs can be run successfully as a business …… they can't !! Football clubs are the plaything of the very wealthy and regrettably, the two owners we are lumbered with are not prepared / do not have the resources to allow us to compete successfully in the Championship.
The most annoying thing about it is that they pretend that they do have the resources and they treat the supporters like mushrooms …….
UTB & FTP
Most of the supporters of course have a deep-seated understanding of fuck all.
Best post I've seen from Ronnie Waldock, one of the very best posters on BM and a Blade for a very long time....

Many years ago, a very wise and wealthy man advised me (with regards to shares in quoted companies) that if the price was so high that I wouldn’t buy at that price, it was time to sell.
Now, would we pay £12-£15 million for Brooks at this time in his development?
No, I know it’s not quite the same because we couldn’t afford to (and never will be able to unless established for 2 or 3 years in the PL).
But, there is no guarantee that Brooks will turn out to be as good as everyone thinks he will. At least this way, we are guaranteed a reasonable amount, and if he does go on to great things, we get an extra windfall. If we turned it down and his career never really took off......................... !!!
Methinks the club, the board, CW and all can’t win either way."
Now there's a question for the £20m boys to answer.
We’ve just got to face it the powers what be are happy if we are a mid table championship side.I'll answer it. That's the stock excuse we get every time the club sell someone of any value.
You esteemed poster says we are guaranteed a "decent amount" I'll also guarantee that we don't spend more than £1.5m on any individual despite CW having a decent wedge at his disposal. We can then look forward to half a dozen Lundstram types plodding around instead of someone who has us on the edge of our seats.
For evidence of this I'll throw a few examples of replacements for previously departed players:
Mick Jones/Mick Hill
TC/Hamson & Bradford
Beattie/the other Beattie
Maguire/McEveley
Hirst didn't start a single senior game for them and isn't an international footballer, not comparable. How much did SWFC get for their David brooks (George Hirst) probably nothing, yet we get 12 million and people go mental about our chairmen. Swop for a Tuna salesman ?
I also feel for the potential loss but also realise that is how football is these days.
