CONFIRMED David Brooks to Bournemouth

Brentford appear to stronger when negotiating player sales.

Bournemouth have seen their £10m bid for Brentford defender Chris Mepham rejected, according to Sky sources.

The Cherries returned with a fresh approach for the young centre-back after having a £5.5m bid rejected by Brentford during the January transfer window.

But that too has been turned down, with the improved offer still not understood to be close to the Bees' valuation of the player.

We value our players pretty low anyway so as soon as the offer for Brooks was above that of the Walker/Naughton deal then it was done. The new agent has clearly played a part but the lad is on a newly signed 4 year contract. There was certainly more wriggle room in the valuation for sure.

Whatever, we are Sheffield United. This is the way it is.

From a Times article in September:

Travis Binnion: "We got Brooksy (David Brooks) out of City at 17, wow, technically
different class. He didn’t want to win the ball back at City, but we
look at what he might be, we persevere. He got player of the
tournament at Toulon (with England this summer). Hopefully we can keep
him. But there will be a price. It will be a good chunk of money for
us".

Tedious, parochial, unimaginative cliché supplemented by infantile tantrum.

The apologists for United selling Brooks are pathetic. I've never been so ashamed of United as I am now. The small minded fans who think this is a good deal make the pig fans look intelligent. Small minded city, small minded fans. What a fucking joke.

Its all based on the assumption that A) Wilder will actually get the transfer fee to spend and B) It will spent on a player or players that are better than what we have

If the last transfer window is to go by then I am certainly not optimistic of either.

Rather rich coming from the most cliché riddled poster on this forum.

I am surprised you hadn't already come up with a belittling nickname for Brooks since you have such contempt for our academy.

Word for word the same excuse after every sale of our best young players.

I guarantee you that guy also thought we got a good deal for Kyle Walker and defended it at the time. (it was obvious at the time how good he was)

I agree totally about Walker. The worst business we have ever done. I doubt many people said it was a good deal but pretend it's been said to shore up your "argument".

What would you do if we spent £10m on potential, when we need three or four players to progress.

No ones explained where the £20m bids are yet though.

SUFC Receptionist :
Good morning ,Sheffield United Football Club, how can I help you?
Caller: Oh good morning, can I speak to Mr McCabe please?
SUFC receptionist;
Of course ,who is calling please?
Caller:
It's Neill Blake,CEO of Bournemouth FC.
SUFC receptionist:
Putting you through sir.
Neill Blake:Morning Kev,Eddie (Howe),has asked me to offer you £10m for that young Brooks lad.
KM.
Are you having a laugh Neill?
Ten mill for a 20 year old FULL international for a country ranked 18th in the world, above the likes of Italy,a lad of immense potential ,who Ryan Giggs is creaming himself about...
How much would you have to pay if he were...say..Spanish or French or Fkn Portuguese?
I'll tell you how much !! Fkn treble..now fk off and stop thinking us in Sheffield are fkn stupid! We have a plan to get back in the Prem asap, and David is a big,big part of it !Wilder would resign immediately if he went for that! He's not for sale..end of discussion!

Neill Blake:
How about £12 mill then Kev..?

KM: Go on then.........

The reality is actually that clubs value our players at what they see as a true value. To them. Name me transfers when a stream of clubs have been in a bidding war for any of our players.

What happens is that excitable fans, not always young but generally are, see World Class players selling for sixty million plus and try and relate that to our player, ignoring the huge difference in class. I did it when I was younger as will others have. However at some point you have to grow up and embrace reality, especially financial, in football.

Birchenall, Jones, Salmons, Currie..
... I was upset

A young boy with great potential, but who gets knocked off the ball by a strong gust of wind - I’m not losing sleep.

I’ll decide at 5pm on August 4th whether it’s been a good summer.

Watching German players crying is a good start!

The thing with Wilder is, he is a pragmatist and he's also a realist.

He takes a look at the team that finished 10th for which Brooks didn't really feature that much. Yes, he provided memorable moments, but these were fleeting given his injury situation.

He then probably looks at offers he has out there and what he can get from Bournemouth.

He adds Gallagher permanently and Mousset on loan as a pacy option to Sharp, Clarke and 5th choice Ched. A definite upgrade on what he had 12 months ago.

He gets Coutts back to pair up with Fleck and he signs Palmer on loan as well as still having Holmes. He's then got back up or competition for Duffy and has depth covering Fleck and Coutts already in the shape of Evans and Lundstram.

He's got a highly-rated keeper at a fraction of the wages he would need for Blackman.

He ends up with cash to spend on upping the competition in defence, possibly bringing in DaSilva on loan and the QPR lad.

He also probably has some change left out of that.

I can see why Wilder might go for that. We've lost that bit of crowd pleasing flair, but every single department looks stronger with the exception of keeper which you'd probably say is about the same.

So CW said thanks for his new ‘improved’ contract and that he was happy with the budget he had been given! so is that now plus the Brooks money... no chance! I have had 50 years of this, I know I shouldn’t be surprised but it makes my blood boil

Why are you assuming that? There's no evidence to support that but there's plenty of evidence to support United cashing in on their better players when the first opportunity arises.
I'd love to chat with Kyle Walker and ask him " if you're such a big Blade why did you leave to go to Spurs and become an overnight millionaire with a chance to play in the Premiership "

I very much doubt he would reply "that bastard McCabe made me go"

Why do you assume he did?

If a club gets an offer they are duty bound to tell a player (who's agent would know anyway)
The rest is up to the player.

You can't make em go where they dont want to.

Ask Dane Whitehouse or Dean Hammind

Your sounding like an inexperienced 15 year old ,players and there agents hold all the cards today.Football is a business.

The first 14 years I spent watching fucking Sheffield United, 11 of them were in the top flight. I don't even know if fucking Bournemouth existed then. My expectations are a little bit higher than yours.
All a bit Jethro Tull

He'll be remembered for three glimpses of magic. Last Thursday wilder said "everyone's happy to stay" suddenly brooks wants to go. Money talks. Shows the true character of a person. Thankful it's happened when it has on reflection.
Yes and it's not a Maguire situation where we were left in limbo at the last minute.
Have so.e fans lost faith in Wilder already ?

I beleave Wilder has been pulling all the strings in this a great deal for the club .

SSN just said that the fee is “believed” to be up to 11.5m yet James Shields says 12m plus 3m in performance related payments.

Brooks is the best talent seen at the Lane since Currie. Anyone who can't see this knows fuck all about football. It's inevitable that he will be be leaving some time in the future but if United sell him for the first bid, especially when they don't have to just yet, then they can fuck right off. That will be me done.

Come on Snoots lad, don't let it be you done.

I'd hoped we could hang on to him for this season, to hopefully develop more and help us push on. But it looks like it's not going to be, when you support Sheffield United, it was ever thus.

Football is just a job to him, he has no more affinity to the club than most of the other signings we've ever made. His agent has turned his head and Brooks has decided to go for the money. He's clearly happy to take a Kings ransom to play for a club with an artificial history and play in front of a much smaller crowd. Fine, let him count his money when his career is all said and done.

If he has asked for a move, Tufty has done exactly the right thing, because his heart won't be in it if he stays. And a player who's heart isn't in it is no use to anybody.

The vast majority of players don't feel it like we do. They are movable commodoties, we on the other hand, wouldn't change if we wanted to.

So no, Snoots. You're not done, none of us are. Pissed off? Yes. Done? Never, we're not built that way. We dust ourselves down, and go again.

The Finchley Agenda Express arrives right on time.
Right on cue Pinchy ,the McCabe bashes have been waiting for the next chance to have a go,the Walker deal will always be in .McCabe thoughts that was the one deal Rednapp had our pants down. That won't happen again.

Really wish that dirty parasitic little piece of shit Rankine would do us all a favour and drop dead.

But mind you, another one would only replace him. These cunts are breeding at record rates, it seems.

Bit anal here Ricky but I checked out the agent for Brooks is Unique Sports Management whereas Mark Rankine runs Base Soccer and also Kyle Walker. So it looks like Rankine wasn't involved mate but no doubt a similar agent that has turned Brooks head.

Great post Mr Crab somes

I believe that DB is at the same Agency as Kane, Zaha, Sessignon, Cairney, Fredericks, Hogan, Che Adams, Freeman & Jack Robinson, among others.

Times have changed mate. Currently Bournemouth are above the Blades in the pyramid and provide a much more attractive base.
It will change again, but TODAY, we can't compete with them both financially or on the field.

Nobody's surprised Brooks wants to secure his future at a premier league club. It's the fee that's the problem...a young, full international with unlimited potential
Times have changed mate. Currently Bournemouth are above the Blades in the pyramid and provide a much more attractive base.
And clubs like Bournemouth will remain above us in the pyramid whilst ever we sell them our best players.

My only solice here is that we have a great manager who will reinvest the whatever amount he gets from the sale wisely.

A rare glimpse of common sense and forward thinking in an otherwise dreary message board !!

Have a like sir.

I was about to mention the glandular fever. It’s a very debilitating illness. It takes a long time to shake it off and it has a habit of creating further problems. Seb Coe, for one, was never the same athlete again.

Whatever those subscribing to the agenda may think, our club is not populated by complete idiots (there are plenty in the crowd though..). This decision will have been thought through. Doesn’t make it right, of course. Time will decide that issue. However, it’s very far from a Brian Deane or Tony Currie moment and once knees have stopped jerking people might want to pause further vitriol until we see where we are in a few months. A controversial view I know, in this Iwantitanimusvavitnow culture that pervades football and society in general.

The other thing to add is that I don’t think even now we know how to necessarily utilise him best in the system we play. The games he played the Duffy role behind two strikers, he played like an individual rather than a team player. We don’t look likely to move back to wingers anytime soon, and from what I’ve seen he’s not suited to play a deeper midfield role. His best games have been playing off a striker (more forward than attacking mid tbh) and in that he’s not had the sort of output that Clarke & Sharp have had. I like Brooks, and think he could probably develop into the Duffy role in time, but if I’m honest and pick our best current XI as it stands I don’t think he’s in it. His development also isn’t guaranteed to happen quickly.

Ultimately, Wilder made it clear when Adams left that if a player wants to go, he’ll let them. Contracts are now simply a means of ensuring we get a fair price, it’s not a guarantee that a player is with us for the full contract – it hasn’t been that for some time. If we’re “a selling club” it’ll be with Wilder’s blessing.

Like all, I’m a bit surprised about this and a bit sad but if the price is 12m + add one then I think that’s a fair representation in the current climate.
A player who no one really knew where he was going to fit into the system that Wilder wants to play. Given time and coaching he could develop in one position but at the moment he is not at the level where we would build a system around him.
On the money side of things, maybe he has looked at his illness last season and thought ‘I’m so close to not having a career in football, one injury, another bout of sickness and my value is 0.’ Maybe he talked to someone like Terry Kennedy and thought that could be me.
Sad day but we move on. Bring on Regan Slater
