I really couldn't be arsed with you tonight. This sale is going to fuck United up for the next 10 years and your posturing is just wasting internet space.
You are really reaching with that comment. Fuck me. If we never owned Brooks, we would have still (roughly) finished where we did last season, and we wouldn't have an extra £12m. I take the point that we will be hard-pressed in replacing him due to his potential, but how is his absence going to make the state of affairs worse? He wasn't a regular starter ffs

For fuck sake Blades

If someone offered you the chance to become a millionaire at 20 years of age, would you say no I want to stay at SUFC and see what happens ?

Brooks'ys new agent turned him to the money, the club had little choice.

We could have kept him like George Hirst....

Good luck to Brookes if it goes through, looks like it will. Be surprised if he makes the same impact the lad Cook from Leeds did. But never though DCL would play either at Everton.

One great memory with the Hunt nutmeg and the biggest fee club has received for a single player. Can't complain really when you consider that and James Maddison went for a similar fee and in my opinion looked a better player. Unlikely but hopefully Wilder gets at least some of the funds back.

Hope for some surprise incomings soon.

Is it? You have absolutely no way of knowing that. Of course nobody wants to see good players (youth or origin is a parochial red herring) leave but that’s football. Money talks. Stop kidding yourself it’s exclusive to SUFC so that you can wallow in self-pity, however popular that state of mind may be in S2. Let’s see what happens going forward a few months before pronouncing a Cassandra-like ten years of doom, eh? What a ludicrous statement that is. Many, many clubs have sold far better players than Brooks and prospered thereafter. The ‘woe is me’ is melodramatic nonsense.

You are having a self-indulgent, infantile tantrum in public. I’m responding to it. Do it in private and it’s your own business. Someone talks bollocks about my club? I respond. What on Earth makes some of you think you have immunity from challenge?

You haven’t the faintest idea how to run a football club and wouldn’t last ten minutes if given the opportunity.

Keep jerkin’ dem knees.

This is an embarrassing place sometimes.

As usual you are relying on your soundbites to make an impact instead of presenting the facts. When other clubs have sold their better players they usually have a few more in reserve to compensate or they use the proceeds of the sale to buy someone. When United sell their better players they don't have anyone to replace them with, the money goes into paying the next debt installment and the club moves backwards, usually ending in relegation and/or a prolonged period of stagnation. History shows that I'm right and you are wrong.

I’m afraid I’ve used my 57 years a little more imaginatively than you have yours. Anyway let’s get this straight, so as to have a clear reference point. The sale of David Brooks will ensure that Sheffield United are fucked for ten years? I don’t want to misrepresent your knee-jerk at any time in the next decade, so would you please confirm that is the case?

Best post I've seen from Ronnie Waldock, one of the very best posters on BM and a Blade for a very long time....

Many years ago, a very wise and wealthy man advised me (with regards to shares in quoted companies) that if the price was so high that I wouldn’t buy at that price, it was time to sell.
Now, would we pay £12-£15 million for Brooks at this time in his development?
No, I know it’s not quite the same because we couldn’t afford to (and never will be able to unless established for 2 or 3 years in the PL).
But, there is no guarantee that Brooks will turn out to be as good as everyone thinks he will. At least this way, we are guaranteed a reasonable amount, and if he does go on to great things, we get an extra windfall. If we turned it down and his career never really took off......................... !!!
Methinks the club, the board, CW and all can’t win either way."

Now there's a question for the £20m boys to answer.

Brutally honest. I don't want him back. If he's gone for the money (evidently he has) I don't want him anywhere near the club. I'd much prefer someone different.

I'm with you there. Time for someone new who wants to be here to take his place. Marcus Maddison an obvious candidate from Posh. But I'm sure Wilder will have had a replacement in mind. This hasn't suddenly happened, we know there's being interest from Bournemouth for a while.

I do just wonder whether having come back from glandular fever if he ever will get back to how he was. After all, he played again within months and by his own admission was not fully right for the rest of the season.

There is the possibility that we gain £12m now as opposed to nothing in the future.

There again - he may end being world class and we'll all say 'he's a Blade ...'.

I don't know - do any of us? Just a thought.

I am gutted that we are losing him. It does seem like we don’t seem to haggle as hard as other clubs but I just hope that

1. The sale was sanctioned by CW. I presume it was, based on him saying he would walk if players were sold over his head.
2. I presume CW felt the overall deal including any sell on clause was good for the club and was the maximum we could get at this stage
3. CW will be given the funds to strengthen the team
4. CW knows who he wants to buy using the money. No point just going out and blowing it on over priced has beens or players who won’t improve the team and no point just having it sitting around in a bank account
5. That the players he brings in with whatever wages they are on does not cause disruption in the dressing room
6. That we will look back at the end of this season and say it was the right decision

Something's not right about it to be fair. Interest from Bournemouth. Sudden change of agent. Then this.. all wreaks a bit imo.

Aye but that's football. I don't blame Brooks for leaving - most would in his position. If he goes he'll be remembered fondly I'm sure, even though it seems he asked to leave. This could be a great deal for us if we spend the money. If Wilder only gets a fraction to spend then I fear we'll be much worse off pitch wise.

I was about to mention the glandular fever. It’s a very debilitating illness. It takes a long time to shake it off and it has a habit of creating further problems. Seb Coe, for one, was never the same athlete again.

Whatever those subscribing to the agenda may think, our club is not populated by complete idiots (there are plenty in the crowd though..). This decision will have been thought through. Doesn’t make it right, of course. Time will decide that issue. However, it’s very far from a Brian Deane or Tony Currie moment and once knees have stopped jerking people might want to pause further vitriol until we see where we are in a few months. A controversial view I know, in this Iwantitanimusvavitnow culture that pervades football and society in general.

Fuck everybody who says stay calm, me and some other angry Blades have got the burning torches and some ropes to lassoo the Bournemouth floodlights. It's time to destroy that fucker and leave a smouldering crater in it's wake before they do any more damage to us. Fuckers.

He'll be remembered for three glimpses of magic. Last Thursday wilder said "everyone's happy to stay" suddenly brooks wants to go. Money talks. Shows the true character of a person. Thankful it's happened when it has on reflection.

It's a similar scenario to Kyle Walker. Young player that just breaks into the first team, catches admiring glances from richer lands and he's off for what 'could' be a decent fee. Let's hope DB is as successful as KW and we reap the financial rewards later on.

At this time £12m plus add ons is not to be sniffed at imo of course.

Word for word the same excuse after every sale of our best young players.

I guarantee you that guy also thought we got a good deal for Kyle Walker and defended it at the time. (it was obvious at the time how good he was)

Greedy fucking agents call the tune, especially with kids, whatever naive people on here may say. The Watford lad couldn’t even get a cab to the Lane from the station without permission from his particular leech.

Can't remember the scummy bastard who's his new "agent" similar to that lad from wet spam... Dom something. All agreed. Suddenly decides he wants an agents fee.. ruining the game massively imo.

It's the young footballers I feel for.. restricting your career due to someone wanting a slice of YOUR pie..
