Hopes? Hopes for what?
Look - face reality. There is possibly one ... at a push two ... players in our current SQUAD who would be able to match the capabilities of the current PL teams. To get there and to stay there would require most of if not all of the current SUFC squad to be upgraded, replaced, moved on. Thanks guys, you have got us to where we are but you'll not be part of our plans next year. Have we the financial testes for that step? Nah. We saw last time we were up there what one serious injury can do to a team (Hulse) and we have seen what the same can do to a team this season (Coutts) We have no strength in depth and (like it or not) no foreign input into our playing staff, which is an absolute essentiality to be able to go up and stay up. Ask Brighton. Ask Newcastle. Ask Bournemouth. This squad is nowhere near a PL outfit and we'd be slaughtered, week in, week out.
I ask all Blades fans to be bloody grateful for last season's efforts and this season's brilliant over achievements beyond expectation. They have all done us proud. There's no point is asking of them what they can't deliver nor asking of them what the capabilities of the current setup can provide. We'd need £40-£50m input in playing staff alone to mount an automatic challenge and a further cash input to consolidate against a league which is playing football at a breathtaking skillset and pace.
Stay real, people!
