Club badges...

I put this on the Leeds badge thread but it got lost amongst everyone slagging the Leeds badge off (or just ignored me!) but I’d change ours slightly by getting rid of the FC bit and just having SHEFFIELD around the top half of the circle and UNITED around the bottom half. Makes it more prominent. Man U, Man C, Arsenal (and now Leeds!) have dropped the F.C. or Football Club bits fairly recently. Put 18 on the left of the circle and 89 on the right as well.

Didn't we once win and independent survey as having the best badge in the FL.?

in light of the Leeds and Pigs badge debacles....do we have the best club badge out there? Biased of course but trying to think about this objectively and our badge is up there.

Anyone else come close?

For the exiled old farts like me what are the issues?

I noticed the oinkers went back to either the or a badge similar to the one they had in the 60's, which IIRC was quite similar to Leeds'.

Give us the griff (the story).

Of the modern UK club crests, I always liked the following. In no particular order:

Wolves
Burnley
Arsenal
Chelsea
Hearts
Motherwell
Wrexham

Still think ours is a beauty though and I wouldn't want it to change any time soon.

Plenty out there that are still fairly traditional, Man United, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal etc. The Leeds one is frankly terrible and an embarrassment to their club. Thought the current one was shite but oh my god the latest suggestion is just beyond the pale!!!

Ours has changed over the years but the current incarnation is perfect in my opinion.

Not exactly like this, but very similar...

I'd forgotten that we were founded by Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble.

the Spanish seem to do good badges, they are also good at designing modern buildings, jamon & other tapas...

My favourite is the Coruna one, who'd have thought a yacht pennant tangled in a garter with a crown on top would hang together so well. Of other badges I would have thought something like Valencia's would be good for a cricket team and I used to love the Yorks C.C. white rose until I read somewhere that Lord Hawke had drawn it (clearly very badly) and it wasn't some genuine mediaeval thing from an illuminated manuscript.

I quite like these Crab Industries FC Badges, formed in 1889 like our beloved Blades...and just like the Blades have had their ups and downs, but with the appointment of one of their own, Johnny Shellfish as manager a couple of years ago they are looking to claw their way back to the top of the table......

Simply lovleh!

I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding over the 1889 thing though. Turns out that was the sell by date on the tin of powdered eggs in the kitchen down at The Happy Crab.

I'm liking the new Leeds badge in a comedy sort of way, perhaps it could have done with having a head on top of the body, the salute a little higher, maybe under the nose and above the top lip, perhaps even with the signs of a little toothbrush moustache in there and instead of a clenched fist an open palm, the other arm could be more visible taking a more active role, another salute say, arm stretched in front of the head .... be the perfect match then ...

... marching all together!!!

They were going to, but received the threat of a lawsuit from the estate of Adolf Hitler. They felt he wouldn't have wanted to have had his name sullied further by being associated with them.

As I've posted before elsewhere.... Crab Industries are already tapping the Mexican market in shirt sponsorship.... albeit they've gone a bit Space Invaders....

I’m trying not to be bias

But I agree ours is easily one of the best and most instantly recognisable in the UK.
The best badges are the simple, uncomplicated ones, that stand out different to any other badges.

I know that the scimitar sword is on the Saudi Arabian flag
It makes you wonder if the initial attraction for the Prince becoming our Chairman was when he saw our badge.

I think this is my first post, normally just read the website. But, I remember this graphic designer doing a re-branding of club badges last year on twitter.

Thought it might be of interest to people - https://jasonkallendblog.wordpress.com/2016/01/28/changing-the-face-of-football-01-sheffield-united/

I am personally a fan of this.

It’s a fair attempt at an alternative but it’s a bit wishy washy and not the classic instantly recognisable current badge.

As we currrently have arguably the best badge in the league surely it would be nonsensical to try and change it.

I also wondered why the current design is surrounded in mystery. It was designed in 1977, which isn’t long ago, so how come there’s nothing official or certain about how the design came about. All I’ve read is that the rumours are that Jimmy Hagen design it. Surely someone at the club or in Sheffield can put the rumours to rest and confirm the truth behind the origins of the badge.

It's a valiant effort and might look ok on a pennant or something but it's an almost impossible task and he's not quite managed it. In a certain light I'm seeing a ninja bunny mask with yellow mascara as well.

Ours has changed over the years but the current incarnation is perfect in my opinion.

The changes to ours have frankly been minimal too to help the current one stand out a bit more – I only really notice the most recent one if it’s side-by-side with the old one.

The only substantial change I’ve witnessed was the move to a black shield for the emblem. Always hated that, and was delighted when we ditched it.
