is this the end for billy

Leon not scoring as often. Plays better with sharp, teams tend to put 2 defenders up against billy allowing Leon more space

He really should have come on for 15-20 mins. Would have run through walls to score in front of the Kop.
I was disappointed that he didn't get to feature in either pig match.

Felt so sorry for the lad on friday, thought he deserved a run out at least for the whole of efforts last two and a half years. Don't think it would have changed anything but i remember couple of balls across the box without a blades man near it, the sort of thing he'd put away without a second thought.

I've said it on here before, i think he might end up evolving into a peschisolido character as time goes on and his age catches up with him. He certainly has plenty to offer though and anyone that can finish as well as he can in the box is of use to us

CW went for the mercurial option of Wislon, who Wendy would have known nothing about. He's hardly played for 15 months, so obviously it was a gamble. It didn't pay off, but then not all substitutions do.

At the moment the Don is looking sharp (no pun intended) and you still have to stick with Leon based on earlier season form. Having said that, Leon missed another sitter on Friday and if this continues he can't be 100% sure of his place longer term.

I have previously posted that Billy is not a particularly effective sub. He works hard during a game pulling defenders all over the place and then softens them up, setting it up for a faster replacement to come on as they are tiring. He would obviously have given his all on Friday, but as we didn't put enough quality balls in, it is difficult to see a different outcome.

Bill is far from finished. He will be disappointed about missing out but he will get more chances between now and the end of the season and he will score more goals. I'm confident he will end the season with 12-15 goals.

Spoke with some Donny fans yesterday, they seem to think he'll end up there.
In this window too...

Putting Wilson on ahead of Billy was the second thing Wilder has done wrong this season IMO. The first was him throwing on Carruthers for Basham vs Bristol which cost us a point.

I'm more than happy allowing Wilder to decide which players are best to take us forward.

If that includes Billy, fine. If it doesn't, fine.

May be I'm old fashioned but I certainly wouldn't want to see Billy sold to another club now and have to see out his career in the lower leagues.

I'd hope he could finish with us and retire just as those old players such as Joe Shaw, Cec Coldwell and Graham Shaw did.

Don't suppose football works like that now.

not played much in last few weeks . And not even used tonight Wilson got the nod over him .Looked gutted walking off
He'd have been perfect for the Wednesday game, the amount of times the ball dropped in a area sharp would be was crazy.

Billys been telling wilder a few home truths and Wilders taken offence to it and that's why he's not playing him ?

No it's not ' subversive ' but it's almost certainly complete bollox .

“Home truths”? Even if this wholly imaginary event did take place (of course in S2 it will have happened, for sure) might Billy have been talking “home bollocks”?

I thought the same, but hindsights wonderful init.

Players always ‘would have been’ and ‘would have done’ when they’re not in the team. It’s an immutable football fan myth.

Odd that balls don’t drop exactly where Billy ‘would have been’ when he’s actually playing. In his recent appearances, it’s been more a case of wondering where exactly is he?

If Sharp doesn't get 10 minutes in a local derby, at home, against 10 men, when kicking towards the kop when you've only made one substitution, then I can't see when he is going to get game time.

To be fair to my dad, he said, sharp would be perfect because with Wednesday having a new manager, they were always going to put 11 men behind the ball, forcing us to put balls into the boxes.

Wasn't have a dig mate. But in how many recent matches as Billy been virtually ineffective. CW probably thought we had a better chance of scoring with Clarke and Donaldo. Did think Bill might have got at least 15 mins though.

I'm assuming this is a different one to the Billy who's been heavily criticised for his lack of form over the past few weeks. Apparently he'd do better against the pigs than those games, which implies that in those games he wasn't really trying.

As a reward for his sterling recent form?

Not sure many of our strikers are currently in great form other than Clarke. Considering he is the only striker to have scored in the last 5 matches (I know I am being cheeky including the FA cup match).

No for the reasons stated above, that he is a goal poacher and may have got on the end of something, that Clarke and Don hadn't so far managed. Billy has always blown hot and cold.
He's blowing cold at the moment though. He may have scored or he may have played like he has in recent games and done very little. Based on current form there wasn't any justification for playing him, other than 'he's a Blade and he hates the pigs'.

Maybe not but they're contributing to the rest of the play, when Billy goes through his non scoring spells he adds very little, it's like playing with ten men.
