The original use is from the battle of Spion Kop

Thought the photo was of the Hillsborough Kop at first! There is a resemblance in the hill! Lol!

Get the nod and it's all go for the upgrade they are adding 3000 seats so when the loo closes for revamp it's 25k gates. A ground to be even more proud of
Absolutely Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane

Not sure I like the idea of a car park under the stand seems a bit of a fire risk if anyone parks a Vauxhall which tend to burst into flames for no reason.

Means the important people can keep out of my parking spot when I go to collect tickets.

Agree queuing up outside in the rain is embarrassing for a modern club.
Maybe you misunderstand. The bolt-on design isn’t just adding seats at the back.

It’s creating a totally new undercover enclosed concourse area with loads of room for toilets and bars. It just won’t have the corporate and banqueting facilities but those facilities will all be in the South stand and John Street stand.

The bolt-on design will be a major upgrade and bring us into the 21st century.

There is a bloke somewhere wearing a No9 shirt that would be money better spent.

thats a very short sighted view
ground maintenance is paramount to any future success we may have
if , nay when , we get in the prem we will need 38000 gates
look at clarke 150 k has secured a decent player for this diviion , get up there the ground pays for itself and theres money over to beat any club record signing

Been down today and spoke to the guy from the architects.

The building of the Kop is a complex undertaking and would mean the loss of 3000 while its being done.

Private boxes in the South run along the middle and right at the back. High revenue to be earned from non matchday activities with the extra facilities.

Building for both will only go ahead when we’ve promoted and stayed in the Prem for that first season.

Sorry if any of this has already been posted.

Told the same thing last night. Currently all about added value for future sale. ROI unimportant, which makes sense.

I'm not really sure why the roof of the south stand needs to angle upwards, it could probable angle down to meet the height of the new kop roof and not in any way obstruct the view of people at the back of the stand, as they'd have to be looking down to see the pitch anyway. Maybe it's so the corporate tarts at the back can get a pretty view over the city while munching on prawn sandwiches and ignoring the game.

Well hopefully someone has learned lessons from last time we were in Prem and we don’t sign a load of horse shit in JTW next time.

Thank the Lord they're starting with the South stand instead of the Kop. I feel the plans for the Kop are fundermentally flawed and any delay would be welcomed as it give more time to reconsider the plans for this already antiquated part of the ground.

Angling the roof down tends to obstruct the view of the far side of the pitch

Yes, but at that height, it wouldn't obstruct the view of the pitch, that's my point.

Ill keep on dreamin then.

if you angle to roof down towards the front, where does the water go?

also, at Old Trafford where they have done this (and I can only imagine that the water pipes run awkwardly down at the corners) - it is a truly woeful view of the underside of the roof from the seats high up, completely cut off and out of sight of the crowd elsewhere in the ground.

If they build the SS as per the illustrations I'll be delighted, it's fucking stunning. The fact that the pigs have picked up on it and are making snidey comments only goes to show they are as jealous as fuck. There's not one aspect of football we're not eclipsing them on at the moment; ground, league position, style of football, team, manager, crowds, academy, you name it.

Think you’re mistaken, they are planning to start both projects at the same time, once we’ve stayed up from our first season in the PL.

Also we’ve already had discussions, the experts have spent years considering the options to come up with the best plan (taking everything into account) for the Kop. So how can they get it so wrong where as you seem to know better than the experts?

I’ve not heard any valid arguements to explain why the Kop design is fundamentally flawed.
The arguement seems to be let’s spend multiple millions building a totally new stand stand with more leg room.
Ideally I’d like that to happen too but with a steeper gradient and more leg room then capacity would be reduced compared to the plan. Why would a club spend many many millions to reduce income? That’s the flaw in the alternatives.

You're not reducing income by building the South stand first, the capacity will be 38k. I can't really see "spades in the ground" on both sites at the same time. Demand will force the issue with the Kop.

I can’t find anywhere where there’s been any statements about timescales and which stand they plan to build first apart from the earlier where someone has spoken to the architects this weekend and they have said both stands ARE being expanded at the same time and this will only begin when we’ve returned to the PL and managed to stay up for 1 season.

The beauty with the rebuild design for both the South stand and the Kop is that both stands can largely remain open, therefore we’re not losing that much capacity during building work. I remember the Kop was expected to be completed in 15 months.

Where are you getting your information from? Or are you just guessing?
